FFiiqqhh ((LLaawwss)) Book 7 Lesson 1 Saláh Types of Wājib Salāh There are six types of wājib salāh: 1. The Five Daily Salāh. 2. Salāt al-Ayāt. 3. Salāt al-Mayyit (taught in Book 10). 4. Two Rak’ah Salāh after Wājib Tawāf of Ka’bah (taught in Book 10). 5. Compensation (qadā) salāh of a dead man that is wājib on the eldest son. 6. Salāh that becomes wājib due to an oath (nadhr, ‘ahd, qasam) or if one is paid to pray the qadā for someone deceased (as niyābah). Note: Salāt al-Jumu’ah (Friday prayer) is counted as part of the five daily prayers because it is prayed instead of Salāt adh-Dhuhr on Fridays. Mustahab (nāfila) prayers are studied in Book 9. The importance of salāh and not to take it lightly can be reviewed from Book 5 (Akhlāq Lesson 7). The Compensatory Prayer (Salāt al-Qadā) Qadā salāh is performed in compensation for a salāh that has not been performed during its proper time. It is wājib to make up all those prayers that have been missed for whatever reason, except for bāligha women who are excused from salāh at certain times of the month (which will be taught to the girls separately). Those who suffer from mental illness do not have to pray salāh. Also, a non-Muslim who becomes a Muslim does not have to pay qadā for the time before he or she became a Muslim. But if a Muslim loses his faith for a duration and then returns to Islām, he or she must make up for all the missed prayers. -

Witr Prayer Volume2 Book16 Hadith 105: Narrated Ibn Umar: Once a person asked Allah's Apostle about the night prayer. Allah's Apostle replied, "The night prayer is offered as two Rakat followed by two Rakat and so on and if anyone is afraid of the approaching dawn (Fajr prayer) he should pray one Raka and this will be a Witr for all the Rakat which he has prayed before." Nafi' told that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar used to say Taslim between (the first) two Rakat and (the third) odd one in the Witr prayer, when he wanted to attend to a certain matter (during that interval between the Rakat). Hadith 106: Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Once I passed the night in the house of Maimuna (his aunt). I slept across the bed while Allah's Apostle and his wife slept length-wise. The Prophet slept till midnight or nearly so and woke up rubbing his face and recited ten verses from Surat "Aal- Imran." Allah's Apostle went towards a leather skin and performed ablution in the most perfect way and then stood for the prayer. I did the same and stood beside him. The Prophet put his right hand on my head, twisted my ear and then prayed two Rakat five times and then ended his prayer with Witr. He laid down till the Muadh-dhin came then he stood up and offered two Rakat (Sunna of Fajr prayer) and then went out and offered the Fajr prayer. (See Hadith No. 183, Vol. 1) Hadith 107: Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: The Prophet said, "Night prayer is offered as two Rakat followed by two Rakat and so on, and if you want to finish it, pray only one Raka which will be Witr for all the previous Rakat." Al-Qasim said, "Since we attained the age of puberty we 1 have seen some people offering a three-Rakat prayer as Witr and all that is permissible. -

Divine Link – Fiqh of Salah Shaykh Yaser Birjas 2 Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim 01 | Introduction Five days before the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) passed away, he was on his deathbed. When you are on your deathbed and talk, you will be saying the most important things in your life. These are the last moments of you life. Think about that time and imagine that you were told that you would be dying in a few days. As you talk to people, what message would you deliver to people? It would be the most important things to you. The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) five days before he passed away was suffering from the pains of death, and he was suffering for more than fourteen days. One of the companions came and saw him (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) aching so much. He said, “Ya Rasulullah, you are suffering so much pain. Why is that?” He (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “I suffer double the pain any of you will suffer.” He said, “Is it because you are getting double reward?” He (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “I hope so.” At that time, he (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) would feel the pain and cover his face, and then when it would stop, he would uncover his face and say, “La ilaha ilAllah. Death has its agonies and pains.” He used to fall unconscious and recover and fall unconscious and recover. -

In His Name, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful اَﻟﻠﻬُﻢﱠ ﺻَﻞﱢ ٰﻋَﻠﻰ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪٍ وﱠآلِ ﻣُﺤَﻢّ TAHAJJUD PPRAYERS SALAT AL-LAYL [NAMAZ-E-SHAB] وَﻣِﻦَ اﻟﻠﱠﯿْﻞِ ﻓَﺘَﮭَﺠﱠﺪْ ﺑِﮫِ ﻧَﺎﻓِﻠَﺔً ﻟﱠﻚَ ﻋَﺴَﻰ أَن ﯾَﺒْﻌَﺜَﻚَ رَﺑﱡﻚَ ﻣَﻘَﺎﻣًﺎ ﻣﱠﺤْﻤُﻮدًا “And (during part) of the night, abandon sleep and keep vigil to pray Salat, in addition to the regular obligatory prayer. Tahajjud Prayers – Salat al–Layl [Namaz-e-Shab] IMPORTANCE The Tahajjud Prayer (Salat al-Layl, Namaz-e-Shab) ranks first and foremost in importance among all other optional (Sunnat) prayers. Tahajjud means to abandon sleep so as to pray Salat. The Qur’an refers to it in Surah 17:79 and says, “And (during part) of the night, abandon sleep and keep vigil to pray Salat, in addition to the regular obligatory prayer. Your Rabb (the Sustainer) may (as a reward) elevate you to the position of High Distinction, Glory and Praise.” The Prophet (s.a.w.w.) said, “I will be at “Maqam-e-Mahmuda” on the Day of Resurrection when I will seek forgiveness for the sinners from the Rabb (the Sustainer) who does what He wills.” We, as sinners, would also wish to receive intercession and are forgiven so as to be in the company of the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) on that Fearful Day. -

Each position involves the movement of different parts of the human body in ways that encourage health and wellbeing. Islam and Physiotherapy It is a religious obligation to take care of our health. Our bodies and minds are in trust from Allah (God) and this means responsibilities for each of us ourselves. After faith, health and wellbeing are understood to be the greatest blessings to have been given to people and as such they are accountable to Allah. Physiotherapy aims to improve people’s daily life through rehabilitation. Physical rehabilitation involves doing a regular, gentle stretch and strengthen movement programme. This is very important and helps to decrease the stiffness in joints and muscles. It also increases the strength of the muscles, in order to improve physical fitness. This is necessary to be able to return to activities such as, cooking, housework, prayers (Salah) and work. What if I can’t pray in these positions due to my pain? Islam allows flexibility in the positions of prayer during illness. As Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “Pray while standing and if you can’t, pray while sitting and if you cannot do even that, then pray lying on your side”. -

The main purpose of this list is to disambiguate multiple spellings, to make note of spellings no longer in use for these concepts, to define the concept in one or two lines, to make it easy for one to find and pin down specific concepts, and to provide a guide to unique concepts of Islam all in one place. Separating concepts in Islam from concepts specific to Arab culture, or from the language itself, can be difficult. Many Arabic concepts have an Arabic secular meaning as well as an Islamic meaning. One example is the concept of dawah. Arabic, like all languages, contains words whose meanings differ across various contexts. The word Islam is itself a good example. Arabic is written in its own alphabet, with letters, symbols, and orthographic conventions that do not have exact equivalents in the Latin alphabet (see Arabic alphabet). The following list contains transliterations of Arabic terms and phrases; variations exist, e.g. din instead of deen and aqidah instead of aqeedah.
