Starting from the Japanese port of Yokohama on Sept 1 the worlds largest passenger ship sailing around the globe for peace, visiting port cities in 23 countries, arrived in New York on October 29, 2018 to coincide with a meeting of the United Nations First Committee on Disarmament and International Security , where, together with the permanent missions of Austria and Mexico, it presented the theme of “Building Momentum for the Entry into Force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons”. This 99th 8th mission of the Peace Boat is host to the “Peace Boat Hibakusha Project: Global Voyage for a Nuclear-Free World,” in which a delegation of Hibakusha, the name given to the survivors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, travel onboard to give personal testimonies and calls for the abolition of nuclear weapons. During the entire voyage they have been giving testimonies on how the bomb affected them and their families in the years that followed. + Dr. Kjell Skyllstad, Professor Emeritus, University of Oslo, Department of Musicology, Norway Editorial: Calling and Connecting Cities for Peace… | 5 Mr. Koji Ueda, born 15 February 1942 was exposed to the atomic bomb at age 3. He suffered from radiation after he entered Hiroshima City with his mother to check on the damage on their home that had stood only 400 meter from the epicenter. In Japan he speaks about his experience to many groups, including students from elementary age to university level. Ms. Terumi Kuramori from Nagasaki was 1 year old when she and her mother experienced the bomb just 5.8 km from the epicenter. Fortunately the family had already taken shelter and survived. She has devoted herself to ensuring that Nagasaki is the last place nuclear weapons are ever used. 1FBDF#PBUTÎSTUWPZBHFXBTPSHBOJ[FEJOCZBHSPVQPGVOJWFSTJUZTUVEFOUT While always a key theme, activism to support the movement for the banning of atomic weapons has been a particular central aim of voyages since 2008, when the Hibakusha Project was launched. Since then over 170 Hibakushas have participated. The awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2017 to ICAN - The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons meant a special encouragement for the Peace Boat NGO that has worked in partnership with ICAN since its early years, and is a member of ICAN’s International Steering Group. • Changing Perception of LGBT People Through Performances – Theater and Television in America and in Japan
Changing Perception of LGBT People Through Performances – Theater and Television in America and in Japan Atsushi Fujita+ (Japan) Abstract This paper examines how LGBT representations in popular media have changed people’s perception and is eventually changing society. American TV programs and theater have played significant roles in terms of advancement of LGBT issues. I look at three TV shows that made LGBT people visible in American society, and three revival theatrical productions on Broadway that urge us to look back at the history and keep fighting for equality. Compared to the U.S., Japan has a long way to go in terms of LGBT issues. However, social and political changes are happening especially in recent years. I analyze three recent TV shows shedding positive light on LGBT characters and argue that the change in Japan has been happening in a similar way which demonstrates how important these cultural representations are for the change. Keywords: LGBT, LGBT Characters on American TV, LGBT Characters in American Theater, LGBT Characters on Japanese TV + Atsushi Fujita, Associate Professor, Aichi Gakuin University, Japan. email: [email protected]. Changing Perception of LGBT People… | 55 Introduction America’s dynamism in politics and social change is like a pendulum especially as it relates to the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) advancement in U.S. history. Just to look at it briefly, at least superficially, the lives of gay people improved as a result of gay liberation in the late 1960s and 1970s. During the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and the 1990s, there was a lot of discrimination and prejudice against people literally struggling for life.

Author’s Eyewitness Historical-Context Introduction written March 11, 2002 In this nonfiction article, “Leather Christmas,” for the benefit of histori- ans who tally up lists, I introduced several “firsts”: the first use in Drum- mer of the high-concept homomasculine phrase “man to man”; the first use of my portmanteau word: perversatile; the first mention of women in S&M scenes; the first gonzo report on sex written in, and reported “live” from, a gay bath, specifically, the spectacular Folsom Street Barracks at 1147 Folsom with entrance on Hallam Street; the first of my many sexual- identity word plays on Descartes’ “Cogito; Ergo Sum”; as well as first use of two of my early 1970s theoretical concepts of leather S&M defined as “Sensuality” and “Mutuality,” and of leather S&M as “a second coming out.” Drummer contributor, psychologist Guy Baldwin, later picked up on my “second coming out” and theorized further about my concept; for this I thank him because not all leatherfolk bother to credit the source of their information. In this article, I also began introduction of the popular culture of movies into reportage and analysis of queer sex, including the primitivism of the Sun Dance ritual and BDSM. As glossary, the terms “’lude” and “714” refer to the drug, Quaalude.

  • HHH Song Book
Summit Hash House Harrier Song Book With Special Thanks to Woodford:[email protected] (Flying Booger) Converted from MSWord 2 files dated January, 1994 The material assembled herein has flunked every test of political, religious, sexual, and ethnic correctness known to man. Public performance of these songs will cause persons of refinement to swoon, and every one of them is guaranteed to offend somebody (in some cases, everybody). Hashers, thankfully, don't give a damn who they offend. That's why Hashers are my kind of people. This collection was made possible by the efforts of Hashers around the world, who freely share their favorite songs. In turn, everything here is meant to be shared. You're welcome to reproduce any part, or all, of this songbook (but be careful with the Monty Python stuff, which is copyrighted but too good to leave out of a Hash songbook—ed). This is a work in progress, with plenty of room to grow. If you know good songs (or bad) you don't see here, please send them to me for inclusion in future editions. I'll be happy to give you credit. My address is in the back. Hash Hymns III is dedicated to Hash House Harriers everywhere, especially my friends of the Tampa, Other Orlando, Phoenix, Okinawa, Hong Kong (Little Sai Wan, Hong Kong, and Southside), Bangkok (Saturday and Monday), Darwin, Orange County, Long Beach, Osan Bulgogi, Seoul, Tacoma, Puget Sound, Singapore (Lion City), San Diego, Fog City, East Bay/Mt.
