María M. Odarda.- FUNDAMENTOS Señora Presidente: LINEAS AEREAS DEL ESTADO es el único Organismo Estatal de Transporte Aéreo de Fomento. Depende de la Fuerza Aérea Argentina, y su origen fue el deseo y la necesidad de emprender una acción comunitaria que uniese los centros de mayor densidad poblacional con los alejados pueblos de nuestro territorio, carentes de medios rápidos y regulares de comunicación creando nuevas rutas que luego sean exploradas por empresas privadas. Desde hace 75 años, una red que sirvió para integrar a la Patagonia cubriendo rutas no demasiado atractivas desde el punto de vista comercial, pero ciertamente imprescindibles desde la perspectiva social. Esta Línea Aérea de Transporte de Pasajeros, Carga y Correspondencia cubre la ruta entre El Palomar y Esquel, con escalas intermedias en Santa Rosa, Neuquén y San Carlos de Bariloche, haciendo su vuelo inaugural el 04 de Septiembre de dicho año, bajo la denominación de LASO, (Líneas Aéreas del Sudoeste). Este primer vuelo oficial regular se realizó con un avión Junker JU-52, trimotor, al mando del entonces Tte. 1ro. D. Juan Francisco Fabri. Posteriormente, se creó LANE. (Líneas Aéreas del Noreste) que cubría la ruta entre Buenos Aires y Cataratas del Iguazú, realizando su vuelo inicial el 06 de enero de 1944. OCTUBRE 1944 Se unificaron las denominaciones LASO y LANE, en LADE (Líneas Aéreas del Estado), la que sigue cumpliendo con el cometido para la que fue creada, llegando a nuestra Patagonia a través de sus sucursales. -

American proposes acquiring a minority ownership stake in JetSMART allowing the carrier to rapidly grow its low-cost network in South America. Customers would be able to earn and redeem AAdvantage miles on JetSMART ights. Broad connectivity and robust loyalty program would create a compelling customer oering in Latin America. Proposed codeshare agreement between the two airlines would create more options for customers traveling between the United States and South America. Cruiser’s Port Guide To Piriapolis, Uruguay Compliments of Seven Seas Cruising Association (SSCA) Updated March 2008 Welcome to Puerto Piriapolis, Uruguay! If any word describes the country of Uruguay and its people, the word is “tranquilo”. Founded as a resort town for wealthy Argentinos by entrepreneur Francisco Piria in the 1930’s, Piriapolis is a no- hassle, low-key spot to leave your boat for an extended period or do boat work, but make sure you bring your supplies with you. Approach & marina: Hail Piriapolis Port Control on Channel 16. It’s hit or miss whether they will answer. The entry is straightforward, but watch for shallow areas between the beach and breakwater. Waypoint for the breakwater is 34S52.5/055W17.0. Tie-up is fore and aft with two mooring buoys aft and wharf tie-up on bollards forward. There is no help from any marina staff or the Prefectura so be prepared to tie up yourself although many times other cruisers are available to lend a hand. If you come in at night, there is a fuel dock just south of the TraveLift at which you can tie up till morning. Formalities: A Prefectura representative will usually be waiting on the dock for you to accept your “zarpe” paperwork. If arriving from another country, you must visit Customs (located in the building behind the marina complex), the marina office on the premises, the Prefectura’s office (1/2 mile from the marina) and Immigration, which is a cab or bus ride away at the Punta del Este airport. -

KOUSKY NOAA/NWS/NCEP Climate Prediction Center, Camp Springs, Maryland (Manuscript received 16 August 2001, in ®nal form 23 January 2002) ABSTRACT This paper compares surface-station temperature observations over Argentina with gridpoint analyses available in the NCEP±NCAR reanalysis dataset. The primary objective is to determine whether the maximum and minimum surface temperatures from the reanalysis can be used to compute statistics on the occurrence of extreme events. The extreme range of topography and geography of Argentina is viewed as a severe test for the reanalysis data. Good agreement, on both the daily and monthly timescales, between the station data and the reanalysis gridpoint data is found over the low-elevation regions in central and eastern Argentina. The agreement is relatively poor for summertime maximum temperatures over northern Argentina. The reanalysis data underestimate the intensity of extreme warm events over northern and southern Argentina and overestimate extreme cold events during winter over central Argentina. High-elevation areas in western Argentina have the poorest correspondence throughout the year. Thus, the NCEP±NCAR reanalysis data have to be used with caution for studies of the magnitude of day-to-day temperature changes. The results of this study indicate that the NCEP±NCAR reanalysis data are suf®cient for determining the timing of midlatitude events but are not suf®cient for determining the amplitude and frequency in the subtropics and in regions of high relief.
