Staminal Evolution In The Genus Salvia (Lamiaceae): Molecular Phylogenetic Evidence For Multiple Origins Of The Staminal Lever Jay B. Walker & Kenneth J. Sytsma (Dept. of Botany, University of Wisconsin, Madison) Annals of Botany (in press) Abstract • Background and Aims - The genus Salvia has traditionally included any member of the tribe Mentheae (Lamiaceae) with only two stamens and with each stamen expressing an elongate connective. The recent demonstration of the non-monophyly of the genus presents interesting implications for staminal evolution in the tribe Mentheae. In the context of a molecular phylogeny, we characterize the staminal morphology of the various lineages of Salvia and related genera and present an evolutionary interpretation of staminal variation within the tribe Mentheae. • Methods. Two molecular analyses are presented in order to investigate phylogenetic relationships in the tribe Mentheae and the genus Salvia. The first presents a tribal survey of the Mentheae and the second concentrates on Salvia and related genera. Schematic sketches are presented for the staminal morphology of each major lineage of Salvia and related genera. • Key Results. These analyses suggest an independent origin of the staminal elongate connective on at least three different occasions within the tribe Mentheae, each time with a distinct morphology. Each independent origin of the lever mechanism shows a similar progression of staminal change from slight elongation of the connective tissue separating two fertile thecae to abortion of the posterior thecae and fusion of adjacent posterior thecae. We characterize a monophyletic lineage within the Mentheae consisting of the genera Lepechinia, Melissa, Salvia, Dorystaechas, Meriandra, Zhumeria, Perovskia, and Rosmarinus. • Conclusions. -

پژوهشهای ژنتیک گیاهی / جلد 2 / شماره 1 Achillea millefolium L. جداسازی ژنهای لینالول سنتاز و پینن سنتاز از گیاه دارویی بومادران ) ( مریم جاودان اصل1، حمید رجبی معماری2،*، داریوش نباتی احمدی2 و افراسیاب راهنما قهفرخی2 1- دانشآموخته کارشناسی ارشد، گروه زراعت و اصﻻحنباتات، دانشکده کشاورزی، دانشگاه شهید چمران، اهواز 3- استادیار، گروه زراعت و اصﻻحنباتات، دانشکده کشاورزی، دانشگاه شهید چمران، اهواز )تاریخ دریافت: 12/70/1232 – تاریخ پذیرش: 1232/13/30( چکیده بومادران ).Achillea millefolium L( گیاهی علفی و چندساله از خانوادهی گل ستتاره ایهتا )Asteraceae( متی باشتد استان بومادران دارای ترکیبهایی از جمله مونوترپن و سزکوئیترپنهای مختلف است که لینالول و پیتنن از اجتزای اصتلی تشتکیل دهنده آن میباشند این دو ترکیب دارای ارزش دارویی و اثرات ضدآفت و ضدمیکروبی هستند و در صنایع غذایی، عطرسازی و آرایشی و بهداشتی کاربرد دارند هدف از تحقیق حاضر، استفاده از راهکار آغازگرهای هرز برای جداسازی ژن های لینتالول سنتاز و پینن سنتاز از گیاه دارویی بومادران میباشد در این تحقیق RNA کل از گیاه بومادران استتخرا شتد، ستس ژنهتای موردنظر با استفاده از آغازگرهای هرز و واکتنش زنجیت رهای پلیمتراز )PCR( تکثیتر گردیدنتد نتتای حاصتل از PCR، تکثیتر باندهای مورد نظر به ترتیب حدود 037 و 357 جفت باز را نشان داد با آنالیزهای بیوانفورماتیکی، نتای توالییابی با دادههتای موجود در بانک ژن جهانی )NCBI( مقایسه گردید نتای بررسی تنوع بین گونهها و خت انوادههتای مختلتف گیتاهی و روابت فیلوژنتیکی بر اساس ژنهای Pis و Lis نشان داد بیشترین میزان مشابهت بین گیاه بومادران و درمنه )Artemisia annua( و نیز بین خانواده های Asteraceae و Lamiaceae وجود دارد، به نحوی که در یک گروه قرار گرفتند نتای این پتووهش، مشتابهت نسبتاً باﻻی توالی این ژنها را با ژنهای متناظر در سایر گیاهان نشان داد و صحت توالییابی را تأیید نمود واژگان کلیدی: آغازگر هرز، بومادران، پینن سنتاز، ترپنها، لینالول سنتاز Downloaded from pgr.lu.ac.ir at 4:08 IRST on Tuesday October 5th 2021 [ DOI: 10.29252/pgr.2.1.23 ] * نویسنده مسئول، آدرس پست الکترونیکی: [email protected] 32 …. -

Acinos, Ajuga, Ballota, Calamintha (Clinopodium), Coridothymus, Cyclotrichium, Dorystoechas, Hymenocrater, Hyssopus, Lallemantia, Lavandula, Marrubium, Melissa, Mentha, Micromeria, Nepeta, Ocimum, Origanum, Pentapleura, Perilla, Phlomis, Rosmarinus, Salvia, Satureja, Scutellaria, Sideritis, Stachys, Teucrium, Thymbra, Thymus, Wiedemannia, and Ziziphora species were comparatively listed and grouped referring to their major essential oil components. In addition, commercially important culinary and aromatic plants of Lamiaceae were also highlighted. Keywords: Lamiaceae, essential oil, aromatic plant Introduction Turkey is situated in geographically between 42°N and 36°N altitudes. She is under the influence of three different climates, namely: Mediterranean, Continental, Oceanic. Her transect is between the sea level and 5137 m (Mt. Ararat). Anatolia is a peninsula thrusting from east to west. She has land in Anatolia and Thrace being at the junction of Asia and Europe. Turkey covers ca. 0.8 million sq. km. and supports ca. 80 million of human population in the rich flora and fauna. Turkey is at the junction of three phytogeographic regions. Aegean and Mediterranean coastal areas are under the Mediterranean influence. Central and eastern parts enjoy the Irano-Turanian influence and the northern parts are affected by the Euro-Siberian phytogeography. -

Due to this circumstance, several studies have been conducted that evaluate the pesticidal potency of plant-derived essential oils. This review presents the pesticidal efficiency of essential oils isolated from different genera of the Lamiaceae family including Agastache Gronovius, Hyptis Jacquin, Lavandula L., Lepechinia Willdenow, Mentha L., Melissa L., Ocimum L., Origanum L., Perilla L., Perovskia Kar., Phlomis L., Rosmarinus L., Salvia L., Satureja L., Teucrium L., Thymus L., Zataria Boissier, and Zhumeria Rech. Along with acute toxicity, the sublethal effects were illustrated such as repellency, antifeedant activity, and adverse effects on the protein, lipid, and carbohydrate contents, and on the esterase and glutathione S-transferase enzymes. Chemical profiles of the introduced essential oils and the pesticidal effects of their main components have also been documented including terpenes (hydrocarbon monoterpene, monoterpenoid, hydrocarbon sesquiterpene, and sesquiterpenoid) and aliphatic phenylpropanoid. -

The physical properties, chemical composition, and cholinesterase inhibitory activity were determined. Six major components, all sesquiterpenes, were identified: cis-cadina-1(6),4-diene (17.11%) (1), γ-curcumene (13.75%) (2), (E)-caryophyllene (12.58%) (3), (E,E)-α-farnesene (10.00%) (4), α-gurjunene (9.46%) (5) and allo-aromadendrene (6.96%) (6). The EO showed an interesting selective inhibitory activity against the enzyme butyrylcholinesterase (50.70 μg/mL) and only low inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase (117.60 μg/mL). The chemical composition and butyrylcholinesterase activity of the EO of S. pichinchensis Benth was reported for first time. ANUALLY-constructed keys to many groups of the Egyptian flora are in urgent Mneed of improvement and updating. To construct a conventional substitute of the key to representatives of the Lamiaceae, a data matrix was compiled to include 48 characters recorded for each of the 52 species (with three subspecies and one variety) belonging to 24 genera which represent this family in the flora of Egypt. The 48 characters were accurately defined to cover as much of the easily observable aspects of vegetative and floral variation in the plants as possible. The data matrix was analyzed using the key-generating package of programs DELTA. The analysis produced a conventional key with a detailed description of every species in terms of the 48 characters. The key is decidedly a marked improvement over its predecessors in that it is strictly comparative. (Lamiaceae) is represented by 98 species, four subspecies and three varieties, of which 56 are endemic in Turkey (Celep and Kahraman 2012). Salvia species are commonly used in Anatolia for colds, stomach aches, sore throats (Tabanca et al., 2006; Ozek et al., 2010; Askun et al., 2010), to treat inflammatory skin diseases, to stop bleeding or as an antiseptic for wounds (Suntar et al., 2011). The most well-known species, S. fruticosa Mill. (Syn: S. triloba L.), locally known as “adaçayı”, “elmaçayı”, is consumed as a hot tea and wildcrafted for sale in local markets in Turkey (Demirci et al., 2002; Askun et al., 2010; Suntar et al., 2011; Gurdal and Kultur, 2013).
