Newfoundland & Labrador July 5th to 16th, 2018 11 nights, 12 days Summary Itinerary This is Eastern Canada’s greatest destination. Nowhere else in all of our great Nation will you find as much warmth among its people as you will on this tour. Stand on Signal Hill and view one of the greatest city harbors in all of North America. Sail across the strait of Belle-Isle and step back a few hundred years to the era of the great whale hunts. Drive along the South arm of Gros Morne National Park. Visit the North American Viking landing site. Enjoy a traditional screech-in ceremony with the locals. Be prepared to fall under the spell of true Newfoundland hospitality. Thursday, July 5th Day 1 Sydney Meet your transfer Driver from Charlottetown, Borden and Aulac and travel to Moncton to meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers. Newfoundland & Labrador July 2018 1 Sunday, July 8th Day 4 Plum Point to L’Anse-Au-Clair It is your second ferry ride this morning, crossing the Strait of Belle Isle and Iceberg Alley to the shores of Labrador, the other part of Newfoundland. You will visit Red Bay, a small community steeped in the history of the Basque Whaling industry that thrived along the coast over 400 years ago. Red Bay is the home of the whaling industry museums that connect visitors with the ancient traditions, folklore, along with the ancients crafts that continue to exist today. The museum will also reveal the gripping story of the oil-laden San Juan that sank in 33 feet of water in Red Bay. And then there are the tangy baked apples fashioned into a pie, the locals call them “cloud berries” – a lumpy-looking golden fruit that grows in profusion in southern Labrador. Lessons in sea lore, sea-washed scenery, down-home hospitality and good food sum up this day beautifully. Monday, July 9th Day 5 L’Anse-Au-Clair to Plum Point This morning takes you back across the Strait of Belle Isle to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Viking site at L’Anse-aux-Meadows, site of the first European settlement in North America where you will experience true Viking lifestyle of 1000 years ago.
