Hannoveraner Rhythmus on the Roller Coaster Hannoveraner Rhythmus 08/2021 Verden, March 30, 2021 BZ On the roller coaster Celle state stud stallion Stanley awarded Grande Prize Verden. The Hannoveraner Verband honours Wilfried Berg as breeder of the Celle state stud stallion Stanley with the Grande-Preis. The colourful chestnut stallion out of the extremely successful dam line of Adda has had a unsteady career and is now receiving more attention due to the success of his offspring. The chestnut stallion, born on 24 January 2006 at Wilfried Berg in Burgdorf, grew up at the Hunnesrück stallion breeding stud. In the 300-day test he convinced with very good jumping, was third in this discipline with a jumping index of 129.36 points and moved into his stallion box in the breeding station Verden. Stanley was brought into sport by Sven Rudolph, who celebrated victories in show jumping competitions with him when he was four years old. When Stanley's first foals were born, Eva Bitter was already sitting in the saddle of the powerful jumping stallion, who was now stationed in Ankum. The duo Stanley/Eva Bitter won the Hannoveraner Show Jumping Championships in Verden and the Small Final of the Bundeschampionat in Warendorf. After that, Stanley was injured again an again, so that his sporting career ended as early as 2011. With that, Stanley disappeared from the breeding focus and the numbers of breeding decreased significantly. Now the first results of his offspring are available and the high breeding value in young horse classes (154) confirms his own performance in this age group. In Germany, he ranks third behind two other Celle state stud stallions: Qualito and Diacontinus. But also the breeding value for the highest achieved class is positive with 123. His sporting figureheads include Han.Pr.A. Sally with Finja Bormann, Smire S with the Syrian Yasser Al Sharif, Stuart with Katrin Eckermann, Stakata with the Pole Adam Grzegorzewski or Sandra Auffarth's Steve. These successes of Stanley's Hannoveraner Rhythmus offspring are no coincidence. His dam competed herself until she was eight years old and was successful up to medium (M) level. His half-sister Escada by Escudo placed at advanced level with Dieter Smitz. His dam's full sister, Larissa, produced the internationally successful show jumper Pikeur Felice by For Pleasure with Tjark Nagel and the nationally advanced (S) level successful Catrice D by Cassini II. Leonie Böckmann's current successful horse Label d'Amour by Landadel/Stakkato and the internationally successful private stallion Saint Amour by Stakkato/Sherlock Holmes with Swante Johansson can be traced back to Stanley's granddam Ginger, who is also the granddam of St.Pr.St. Sarah. She was honoured as Hannoveraner Mare of the Year in 2017 due to the success of her offspring. Stanley's career initially went upwards and ended abruptly. IIt was like being on a roller coaster. The award of the Grande Prize, which will be presented to his breeder Wilfried Berg at a later date in a dignified setting, is an expression of the appreciation of this heredity by the Breeding Committee of the Hannoveraner Verband. .

THE HUMAN HORSE: EQUINE HUSBANDRY, ANTHROPOMORPHIC HIERARCHIES, AND DAILY LIFE IN LOWER SAXONY, 1550-1735 BY AMANDA RENEE EISEMANN DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2012 Urbana, Illinois Doctoral Committee: Associate Professor Craig Koslofsky, Chair Associate Professor Clare Crowston Professor Richard Burkhardt Professor Mark Micale Professor Mara Wade ii Abstract This dissertation examines how human-animal relationships were formed through daily equine trade networks in early modern Germany. As reflections of human cultural values and experiences, these relationships had a significant impact in early modern Braunschweig- Lüneburg both on the practice of horse breeding and veterinary medicine and on the gendering of certain economic resources, activities, and trades. My study relies on archival and cultural sources ranging from the foundational documents of the Hannoverian stud farm in Celle, tax records, guild books, and livestock registers to select pieces of popular and guild art, farrier guides, and farmers’ almanacs. By combining traditional social and economic sources with those that offer insight on daily life, this dissertation is able to show that in early modern Germany, men involved with equine husbandry and horse breeding relied on their economic relationship with horses' bodies as a means to construct distinct trade and masculine identities. Horses also served as social projections of their owners’ bodies and their owners’ culture, representing a unique code of masculinity that connected and divided individuals between social orders. Male identities, in particular, were molded and maintained through the manner of an individual’s contact with equestrian trade and through the public demonstration of proper recognition of equine value.

By Ulrich Hahne 2 Der Hannoveraner 09|2020 Breeding t was not a foregone conclusion that the Her- Iwart von der Decken-Show would take place in 2020. After all, it requires a long lead-time for such an event to take place and for selecting the best mares of an entire vintage. It cannot be conducted as a “late entry”. Scratches multiplied, once events started to be canceled beginning in April. Worries and questions arose: Will we be able to host the Verband’s mare show in Verden this year? How can the mares become selected if there are no mare shows? The questions of the breeders were, howe- ver, always connected with hope that a solution might be found and that this highlight of the Han- noveraner breeding program would not have to be dispensed with. The Hannoveraner Verband deve- loped a “Corona event concept” for the Herwart von der Decken-Show, which started in early May, when most equestrian events were cancelled. At that time, nobody knew what the situation would be like in August.

Hannoveraner Rhythmus 08/2018 Verden, March 26, 2018 UH Edward – a true Hanoverian Celle state stud stallion nominated 2018 Grande-Prize winner Verden. The Celle state stud stallion Edward was awarded the Grande-Prize on the occasion of the Verden Auction in March. The multi-talented Embassy/Fabriano-son was bred by Hans-Heinrich Dittmer from Radbruch. The Hannoveraner Verband honours Edward’s previous breeding performances with this prize which is given to the breeder of a stallion whose first progeny under saddle give rise to great hopes for having a positive influence on the Hanoverian breed. Edward was registered with the Hanoverian Jumper Breeding Program after having successfully accomplished his stallion performance test. As he also displayed fantastic movement, he participated with Charlott-Maria Schürmann at the 2013 European Young Rider Championships where the duo won the silver medal. Edward is one of the last “true” Hanoverian horses that pass on their talent for both disciplines to their progeny. Last year, offspring from his first crops of foals qualified for the Bundeschampionate in all three disciplines, dressage, show jumping and eventing. The Grande-Prize is an award that is linked with the hope that the honoured stallion will sustainably improve the Hanoverian breed. Edward is a worthy winner. The big-framed chestnut was born in 2005 as third foal out of state premium mare Fabienne with Hans-Heinrich Dittmer from Radbruch. Fabienne had once been nominated champion mare in Luhmühlen and was also specially awarded at the 2003 Louis-Wiegels-Show. Her sire Fabriano is well-known for his all-round qualities, just like Edward’s sire Embassy.
