Inspire • Encourage • Act – Mutig machen

It’s time to get to grips with the big issues. Far-reaching political and social change on both national and international level combined with the dynamic pace of technological develop- ment call for committed action, courage and mutual inspiration.

Supply chainers are “business makers”. They know how important it is to adopt a positive attitude, whatever the challenge. It is this that attitude that underlines our theme for the year. “Inspire • Encourage • Act” calls on us to address the challenges in industry, politics and society calmly and courageously, to implement promising ideas – rather than complaining that everything’s just too difficult.

At the same time, we need to encourage and empower people to tackle the key issues, to become involved, to explore uncharted or new territory, to take calculated risks and to roll up their sleeves. The logistics sector successfully performs an extremely wide range of tasks every day and communicates these activities both within companies as well as vis-à-vis political decision-makers and society at large. Robert Blackburn Chairman of the Board, The International Supply Chain Conference 2019 offers opportunities for the international Bundesvereinigung Logistik, Senior Vice President Global Supply Management, exchange of knowledge and experience. It showcases innovations and brings together Stanley Black & Decker, experts from the worlds of industry and academia. And it provides the ideal forum for you New Britain, Connecticut, USA to benefit from further training and networking options, as well as to build on existing and establish new business contacts.

Even in the era of digitalisation, it is still people who interact with each other in person who develop creative answers to today’s challenges and tomorrow’s trends – and who inspire and encourage others by doing so. So let yourself also be inspired, share your expertise and take new ideas back with you to your company. We look forward to meeting you in Berlin.

How can Bremen, Member of the BVL Board we address these challenges? What opportunities lie ahead for established corpora- tions and start-ups? What do decision-makers need to do to prepare their companies for the immediate future? And most importantly – how do we encourage and inspire employees to actively support this transformation?

Jessica Hanson On the road to Digital Transformation! How to Engage your Vice President Logistics Services Associates Through this Journey North America, Robert Bosch LLC, Digital transformation is no longer something of the future. Digital transformation is Farmington Hills, USA shifting the supply chain value proposition from transaction-oriented work to work that requires social intelligence, critical thinking and creative problem solving. Now, more than ever, digital tools, automation and technology are at our fingertips and are becoming more accessible to all. Even though these tools are readily available, organizations can still struggle with creating their own digital transformation opportunities and defining what success looks like for them. This session will focus on Bosch‘s ongoing supply chain digital transformation journey and how simplifying automation, employee collaboration and encouragement, as well as changing mindsets have not only driven us to successfully reduce time and costs but have also led to increased innovation, supply chain visibility, and more meaningful, value added work for employees.

Nick Vyas Global Supply Chain Outlook in a Time of Uncertainty Executive Director, Center for Global Supply Chain Management, After four decades of globalization, we recently have seen strong sentiments against Asst. Professor of Clinical globalization and commercialization. Issues like the US-China Trade War, Brexit, the Data Science and Operations, tension in Southeast , implementation of One Belt and One Road, and means Marshall School of Business, of digitization create incredible influx and uncertainties of global supply chain University of Southern California, management. What does this mean for trade, supply chain, human capital, and its Los Angeles, United States broad implications to human civilization? How do we adapt as a country, society, company, and as an individual? How can companies strategize and execute their plan to not disappear from the scenery? In spite of all this uncertainty and influx, there is tremendous positive momentum that can carry humanity forward – but at what cost?

This Outlook 2025 will discuss these issues and will provide a more in-depth under- standing of local, regional, and global footprints to understand where we are heading.

Erick Yong What Kind of Logistics Will Unlock the Economic Development Chief Executive Officer, of the African Continent? GreenTec Capital GmbH, Frankfurt Logistics in Africa is frequently analysed from an external perspective and therefore often perceived as totally inefficient. From an internal perspective, however, the development of logistics is in fact in tune with the rhythm of the continent. There is a rise in middle class spending capacity in an increasingly digital environment, and this is paving the way for new business models. The African continent definitely benefits from the experiences, perspectives and technology of developed countries, but customisation is needed to achieve efficiency – and this is something that has to come from within Africa.

It strengthens the digital immune system of industry, Bremen technology and research – and forms the basis for the smooth digital transforma- tion of both individual companies and entire national economies. In short, this is a topic that is of particular relevance for companies and private individuals in the digital era.

The changes resulting from the digital trans- formation impact each and every employee. Digitalisation creates new opportu- nities and potential for the Bundeswehr, both in physical and virtual terms. The cyber and information space also brings new risks, threats and challenges, how- ever, which affect the security of Germany as a country. How is the Bundeswehr addressing these risks and threats? What is its contribution to national cyber- security, and how is it actively shaping the process of digital change?

Sascha Lobo The Security Mindset Author and Publicist, Berlin Most laypeople think security is a matter of technology. This isn’t wrong, but it’s incomplete. Because those who talk about security on the level of society and the national economy – as is necessary for logistics activities – must at the same time talk about digital education and the fundamental way in which we understand the Internet. This has less to do with questions of programming and more to do with developing a “feel” for the digital world and its future. The presentation by Sascha Lobo looks at the topic of security not from a technological perspective but from the standpoint of societal change.

22 GALA EVENING

The Arena in the Treptow district of Berlin was a courageous con- struction project. Built in 1927 as a bus terminal, the building complex was at the time the largest self-supporting hall in Europe. Following the division of Berlin, the monumental building stood in the eastern shadow of the Berlin Wall, where it was no longer freely accessible but still used as a bus depot.

Playing for us on this special evening will be “MEN IN BLECH”, possibly the only brass ensemble in the world that doesn’t just play music but also performs dance routines. The band is known from its TV appear- ances as well as the movie “Meat Is My Vegetables”. No less fascinat- ing is pianist Maximilian Kraft on his glass grand piano with a reper- toire ranging from classical to jazz and pop. Isabella Rosselini, Morgan Freeman and Michael Douglas all wax lyrical about his artistic style. As night-time approaches, the three vocalists and six musicians who go by the name of “Nightshift” will make for a live concert atmosphere.

Enjoy a wonderful evening with good conversations, culinary delights, music and dance – and feel encouraged to produce your personal 360-degree photo souvenir at the Gala. We are very much looking for- ward to welcoming you to the Gala of the International Supply Chain Conference 2019!
