Almansa, Spain VARIETAL: Garnacha Tintorera, which has both red skin and red pulp, as a result the juice is very dark, almost black LEVEL: Crianza - Red wine aged 12 months in oak casks (75% French, 25% American) REGION: Almansa is a Spanish Denomination of Origin (DO), and the easternmost wine region in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The designation draws its name from the largest town in the area, known for its hovering 14th-Century castle, the Castillo de Almansa. It was the frontier territory between the Moorish and Christian kingdoms of Aragon and Castilla. The climate is continental with long, hot summers and cold winters, with sparse rainfall. The stony and limy soils retain water and the altitude (2952ft above sea level) mitigates the hot summer sunshine. This area favors red grapes and has been farmed viticulturally since the 16th cen-tury. VINEYARD: 100% Old Vines Garnacha Tintorera with more than 50-year-old vines, grown ecologically above sea level. VINIFICATION: Malolactic fermentation in brand new (75% French, 25% American) oak casks for 12 months. ALCOHOL: 14.0% COLOR: Dark red AROMA: Powerful, spirituous aromas with ripe fruit, sweet spices, red berries, toasted balsamic with smoky marked ends of toasted vanilla. FLAVOR: Powerful, tasty, complex, concentrated. FOOD PAIRING: A very strong wine perfect with grilled and roasted red meats, sausages, semi-hard cheeses and roasted vegetables.
