Fortunately the injury wasn't too serious but it could so easily have been far worse. Our brilliant new children's playground probably does mean we have more younger children around on match days so the risk of a more serious incident has increased. None of us, I'm sure, want to be talking about a much more serious incident. Your committee have debated many times whether we should introduce a complete ban on dogs but have always shied away from taking that decision. Your co-operation will mean we don't have to debate this point once again. Get behind the lads, they need all your support...... Eddie G-S.

Last Game It seems ages since I wrote the last notes for the game against Wigan St Pats. We ended the regular season with a comfortable victory against one of only four sides to beat us this season. Finishing the league season top with a six point gap to second place is some achievement but now the real season begins. We have had three weeks of tough training and can’t wait to get the play offs underway with the semi-final against our old rivals West Hull.

Marc Lovering It was mentioned in the last programme that Marc is stepping down from his role as Chairman at the club. He may not be the longest serving Chairman the club has seen but what an impact he has made. It’s never easy for an ‘outsider’ to come in to the club and take on such a prestigious role. There will always be people wanting to shoot you down and belittle your achievements but Marc has dealt with this and made a success of his reign. On behalf of all the first team, and the rest of the open age, I want to thank Marc for all his efforts over the past few years, most importantly the way he has facilitated the first teams continuation at the top of amateur rugby by allowing us to just get on and play rugby. Marc leaves the club in great hands with some long serving people like Daz Phillips and Jonny Lawless, and some new blood in Paul Hirst and Ben Jackson joining existing committee members who will all be looking to keep the club at the top.

RFL Community Club of the Year/Children’s Coach of the Year I was lucky enough to attend the RFL Community Awards ceremony at Old Trafford last week. The awards saw the club recognised as the Club of the Year and Scrimmy awarded junior coach of the year. Massive congratulations must go to Scrimmy for winning such a prestigious award and one that he fully deserves. People often ask if it’s harder to get to the top or stay at the top when you are there. I think anyone that has been top would always say its harder to stay there as everyone wants to knock you off your perch. For Scrimmy (and the rest of his coaching team) to keep his team at the top for so long is testament to what a great coach he is and one the club should be proud of. The Club of the Year award goes to all the unsung heroes that make this club so great. There are far too many to mention but they know who they are – the club is the best in the country because of the people involved.

Elliott Thompson Congratulations to Elliott Thompson of our Academy A team who was voted Yorkshire Men’s League Division 4 Player of the Year in last week’s end of season awards night at Shaw Cross. Elliott has been a consistent performer in a promising season for Russ Holroyd and Lee Foster.

Pennine League Winter Team Our Winter team are in Yorkshire Cup action this afternoon, with a tough looking tie away against Myron Warriors. Coach Daz Phillips is on holiday for this one, with Carl Hirst and Paul Long taking charge of the team. After an outstanding performance against Upton in the first round, the boys will travel full of confidence. Let’s hope they can make their way into the last eight this afternoon.

Sunday Action at Chevinedge If you fancy watching some of our future stars in the morning then at 10.30am over on the Park Lane field you’ll catch our U7’s Blues entertaining Elland. At the same time our U9’s will be locking horns with Kippax. And at 11.30am on our main pitch you get the chance to watch our all conquering U15’s play Shaw Cross.

After a rally round and a commitment from Math Turner, Lee Foster, Barry Lewis, Fudge Milnes, and the players. They were able to register a team for their very last season together, they went on to compete in YJL Premier division and eventually went on to win the Halifax Cup. Highlights of the season: Playing Stanningley in a curtain raiser before the middle 8s game between Featherstone Rovers and the Leeds Rhinos in front of around two thousand people. Six players went on to sign professional contracts for the Bradford Bulls, Huddersfield Giants, Wakefield Wildcats and Salford. One player went on to represent Yorkshire, there are three players with the Halifax Elite Academy and four other players have stepped up into the open age here at Siddal playing for the U/19s/23s and are currently playing for the winter team. Job done I think! Massive thanks to everyone who helped the lads on for their last season together. Cheers, Lee Foster.
