Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Crosfields ARLFC at the Webb Security Recreation Ground. Today, we welcome the players, supporters and officials from Hull Dockers, for today’s Kingstone Press NCL Division Two Round Five game. Hull Dockers have had a great start to the season, beating local rivals Beverley 19-18, followed by a 16-16 draw against and then beating top of the table last week, 34-14. Craig Cook picked up another two tries last week, as did Steven Mine, with winger Michael McGowan also going over. Ben Rowan kicked 7 goals. Crosfields lost away at East Leeds last week 24-22, with the game only decided in stoppage time. A great effort from the players saw Dan Reid, Luke Walker and Jack Lewis cross for tries, whilst Jack Reid kicked 5 goals. The teams met twice last season, with Hull Dockers winning here at the Webb Security Recreation Ground 26-33, whilst Crosfields won in Hull 32-40. Crosfields are unbeaten at home this season and coach Ian Boden is determined to keep that record in tact. A couple of months ago, one of our players Dan Worrall had a serious accident. The Warrington Guardian produced an article explaining the seriousness of his plight and the tremendous work of the medical staff. The article is re-produced later in the programme, which also outlines some fund-raising activities. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Crosfields winning the BNFL BARLA National Cup. Throughout the season, we will take trips down memory lane to celebrate the achievement and will hold a special re-union day, towards the middle of the season. Today, Round Two, Crosfields v British Aerospace (Oldham). Our Sponsor Focus today is on Warm & Cosy Fires & Fireplaces, who have supported the club over a number of years and provide a fantastic service to their customers. I thank Brian and his team and all our sponsors, for their continued support. Good luck to everyone involved today. Yours in Sport Crosfields ARLFC – Next at the Webb Security Recreation Ground

NWML Division Three 2:30pm Alliance v A Crosfields ARLFC – In My View, by Phil Hodgson

SOMETIMES a defeat can feel almost like a victory, and winning can feel like losing. I’m aware that some people might think I’m going barmy after reading that opening sentence but in my defence I‘ll point to a classic example, namely the BetFred clash nine days ago between and Warrington Wolves. This was, in the build-up, an intriguing-looking fixture, even allowing for the fact that the home side were without , , Matty Ashurst and and, as such, appeared to be weakened on their left edge. Trinity have established a well-deserved `muck and nettles’ reputation in recent years, especially under Head Coach Chris Chester, and most pundits felt that the home side were very capable of more than overcoming their temporary problems, even if they were taking on a fine Wolves outfit that, under Aussie boss Steve Price, is being tipped by many for silverware this time. Those opinions were soon revised. Warrington dominated the opening exchanges, and Wakefield looked flimsy. And when the score hit 28-6 at half-time, the expectation was that the visitors would go on to win by a landslide. It didn’t turn out that way. Trinity, still out of contention at 34-12 down, launched an astonishing rally, initiated by two tries in as many minutes by hooker . Max Jowitt and added further touchdowns in the last six minutes as Wakefield hit the heights and Warrington collapsed. If ’s conversion attempt of Arundel’s score hadn’t veered wide, after having looked set to dissect the posts, the contest would have gone to golden point. And with the momentum firmly behind Trinity, and with Brough such a specialist when it comes to field goals, a home win would have been very much on the cards. In the event Warrington survived – just. But Price looked like the coach who had lost, and who would be giving his side a roasting, while Chester, announcing himself “proud of his players”, was almost beaming, despite the reverse. The coaches’ comments, of course, were made in the immediate aftermath of the game. I suspect that once the dust had settled Price would have happily (almost) accepted the victory and may even have been quietly pleased that the way his players more or less capitulated will have helped him get his messages across regarding the need for constant improvement. And Chester, while impressed by his side’s recovery, will perhaps focus to a large degree on the first-half fault-line that left Trinity with a mountain to climb. The match reminded me of a Methley Royals Pennine League game against, I think, Littleborough a few years ago. We were 48-0 ahead and I started banging on about the possibility of our record victory being eclipsed. I’d spoken too soon, and it served me right, the visitors posting five converted tries to reduce the scoreline at the end to 48-30. Their players were celebrating like mad and, for us, it really did feel like a defeat, such can be the impact of the closing stages of a match.. Saturday 16th March 2019 - Crosfields 22 Clock Face Miners 0 Crosfields got the league campaign back on track with a very hard fought victory in testing conditions for both teams. 4 tries to nil on a mud bath of a pitch was a testament to the organisation and resilience of Boden's men as they had to dig deeper than ever to register the success. In a tightly fought contest, Soap's defence had to work overtime to keep the visitors at bay defending multiple sets on their line as time and again grubber kicks to the in-goal area forced repeat sets. The deadlock was finally broken against the run of play when Jack Reid sent a wide ball out to Matty Barber to cross for the opening score after 22 minutes that was converted by Reid. The game became a little more even following the try with possession changing hands more regularly. There wasn't much between the two teams with Clock Face trying something a little different as they chose to run on the last rather than kick. A pass out wide was intercepted by impressive centre Danny Garcia-O’Brien and he raced a full 60 metres to register his first try on his first team debut. Jordan Williams Soap went in 12-0 to the good at half time but felt much relief as they had to withstand wave after wave of attack. This belief in their defensive strength built confidence for the second half, which was to be as tense as the first. Clock Face had a player sent to the bin on 42 minutes but managed to rally and thwart the Crosfields onslaught during his absence. The Sam Hickey pressure eventually told however as man of the match Luke Walker burst on to a kick through following a break from the marauding Jordan Williams. Danny Garcia O’Brien It was Williams who put the gloss on proceedings and finally put the game to bed in the 74th minute. A penalty provided good field position and the resulting attack saw a John Whittaker break backed up by Williams for a try under the posts and the 2 points. Best for Crosfields were man of the match Walker and Joe Clarke with notable performances coming from debut centre Danny Garcia O'Brien and Louis Wainwright.

“It was important to get the previous weeks display out of our system, so we worked hard and we concentrated on certain areas of our play in training. Saturday 23rd March 2019 - East Leeds 24 Crosfields 22 Crosfields came away with a credible performance but a gut wrenching result as the victory was snatched away from them right at the death. The team can take heart from the performance and build in confidence but it still smarts to lose in that manner. All credit to the home team though as they continued to seek their opening win right up until the final play. The game started as a cagey affair with both teams having solid sets, with East Leeds having the better of the territory. It was Soap however who got the opening score following a John Whittaker break. Great ball handling through the team saw young Scott Turton put Dan Reid in for a try that his name sake Jack converted for a 6-0 lead after 10 minutes. That lead was extended half way through a tight first half by Jack Reid following a penalty for holding down. Soap allowed the home team back in to the game with ten minutes to go until the break with a penalty for holding down themselves to which East Leeds took full advantage of. The East Leeds hooker brushed away a number of would be tacklers to score and narrow the gap to four points. East Leeds continued this momentum up to the break as they applied huge pressure on the Soap line. So much so that a knock on right on Jack Lewis the line gifted the Yorkshire men a try on the stroke of half time from the resulting scrum. The home team went in at half time 2 points to the good. Soap came out in the second half fired up and pushed East Leeds hard early on. Jack Lewis's kick on the last forced East Leeds to knock the ball in to touch and the in-form Luke Walker profited from the scrum ghosting through centre and wing for a great try to nose Soap in to the lead once again. The lead was short lived however as the home team drove the ball well up the middle before shifting the ball wide to the winger who crossed in the corner to reclaim a 4 point advantage on 47 minutes. Soap thought they'd squared the game up ten minutes later but the try was ruled out for obstruction on what seemed a perfectly reasonable set move. The lead was wrestled back though 5 minutes later as great Soap defence forced a knock on on the half way line. The ball was fed to full back Jack Lewis who scythed through the defence to raced 50 metres and score under the sticks to edge the visitor 2 ahead with 20 minutes to play. In a tense final quarter of the game both sides traded penalties. 1st East Leeds drew level at 18 all, then consecutive penalty successes from Jack Reid look to have wrapped the game up at 22-18 in the 79th minute until the final bitter blow was struck to the delight of the home crowd Louis Wainwright in the 80th minute as the East Leeds number 8 crashed over. Hayden James picked up his 1st man of the match of the season award. Crosfields ARLFC – Today’s Teams

Saturday 16th March 2019 – Leigh East A 22 Crosfields Alliance 20 Crosfields Alliance went down to the last kick of the game at Leigh East in a pulsating game, played in appalling weather, but on the home side perfect 4G pitch. The Alliance got away to a good start, with Ben Kenwright scoring in his first game of the season. Brad Stanway converted for a nil-6 lead. Leigh East A hit back with two converted tries, before Alex Clutterbuck went over and Stanway converted to level. Just before the break the home side crossed again to lead at half-time 18-12. At the start of the second half, Leigh kicked a penalty before Robson Boyne crossed for a well taken try, which Stanway converted, leaving Crosfields trailing by 2, at 20-18. Taylor Boyne With six minutes left on the clock, Stanway levelled the scores with a penalty, but in the last minute of the game, the home side kicked another penalty to secure the victory at 22-20.

Saturday 23rd March 2019 – Crosfields Alliance 24 Wigan Bulldogs 20 Crosfields Alliance bounced back to winning ways, with an excellent all-round team performance against Wigan Bulldogs. Taylor Boyne was in the action throughout and picked up two tries, with Joe Battensby and Jack Williams also crossing the white wash. Brad Staway slotted four goals for the 24-20 victory win at home to Wigan Bulldogs with a brace of tries from Taylor Boyne, Jack Williams and Joe Battensby also crossed with Brad Stanway adding 4 conversions. A great performance from Alex Charnock earned him the Man of the Match award.

Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Hull Dockers, to the Webb Security Recreation Ground. First a review on last week’s outings. Leeds East is always a tough place to go and we expected a hard, physical battle in the pack and indeed all over the pitch. We managed the game well in the first half and came out of the blocks straight after the break, but we couldn’t see it through. Congratulation to the Alliance players, who took on another big team in Wigan Bulldogs and came out on top in a tight game. A couple of players are back in contention this week, so it’s been really hard work picking the team, as there are so many players fighting for positions – in every position. From the team that is selected, I am looking for a more clinical performance this week. Hull Dockers are performing well and last week defeated Ince Rose Bridge, who are top of the league, so the lads know the challenge ahead.

Good luck to the boys. Thank, Ian. Crosfields ARLFC – Sponsors Crosfields ARLFC – The Great Glen CanoeTrail – www.rugby-league.com - 15/03/2019

You will best know Trevor Hunt as the Chair of the Kingstone press National Conference League or from BBC Radio Manchester's Award-winning RL Extra Show on a Thursday night, but next month he will be taking on challenge in support of a local cause, the Warrington Youth Club On-Side Youth Zone. The three-day event is a sponsored Canoe Trek down the Great Glen - 60 miles coast to coast - starting on Monday 8 April - and for a man who doesn't like water and gets sea sick on a rowing machine its a daunting challenge!. But one he has been inspired to make, as he explains: "The inspiration for me, behind supporting this most worthy cause, was the speech delivered by Baroness Helen Newlove on the night I signed up for the trip. "She explained how one evening in 2007 she had watched her husband step outside to confront a group of youths who were vandalising his wife's car. Little did she know she would never see Garry alive again. "Garry, aged 47, was kicked to death in a vicious and unprovoked attack. There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Helen recounted how she and her three daughters, Zoe, Danielle and Amy felt at the time and the devastation that that mindless act brought upon her and her family. "But instead of giving in, or even seeking revenge or retribution, as I or others may have done, Helen put her efforts into trying to address the problem of bored youngsters milling around on the streets where mischief and mayhem were often so tempting, by working with the Warrington Youth Club. "The Warrington Youth Club OnSide Youth Zone believes in ‘Inspiring Young People to Achieve’.“ Please give as much as you feel you can to support this great cause on https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TrevorHunt1 Twitter: @TheTrevorHunt Crosfields ARLFC – What’s On

A YOUNG fan who lost his leg and suffered life altering injuries after an accident on the M62 has been visited by St Helens captain . Daniel Worrall, 20, from Great Sankey, was involved in the horrific multiple vehicle incident between Warrington and St Helens on January 30. And the Crosfields amateur player and huge St Helens fan has seen his spirits boosted by his unexpected visitor. Dan’s injuries were severe to say the least, as he was suffering from an enormous swelling on his brain which resulted in heart, breathing and mobility problems. He also punctured both lungs, fractured his back, right shoulder, elbow and hand as well as losing his right leg and being put in a medically induced coma. A GoFundMe page has since been set up by Dan’s friend Josh Hill, who explained how Daniel's relatives were warned by doctors that he may not pull through. On the fundraising page, which aims to amass £30,000 towards a special prosthetic leg, Josh wrote: "On January 30, the brain surgeon from Aintree Hospital delivered us the cruellest news of our lives; which unbearably broke us. "The surgeons, doctors and nurses made us aware of how sick Daniel was and advised us to begin saying our goodbyes in the early hours." After going through nine hours of surgery, which involved up to 30 medical staff working on him, Dan was placed in a medically induced coma in order to survive. Two months later, and to the amazement of hospital staff, Dan is coming on leaps and bounds in his recovery and is now eating and speaking without assistance. This recovery was boosted by the unannounced visit of James Roby on Monday, who presented him with a signed Saints shirt and chatted to him about his recovery.

To continue the fundraising effort for a prosthetic leg, Dan’s family are holding a charity event at Eagle Sports Club on Friday, June 7. It is hoped that the Crosfields player could possibly play rugby once again if the target is reached.
