    MANLY-WARRINGAH RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED ANNUAL REPORT 2012 FOOTBALL CLUB CHAIRMAN’S REPORT Going back to back in the NRL competition has proven too big a task for the defending Premiers each year since 1992, but I can proudly say that in 2012, Geoff Toovey and the boys gave it a red hot go. Despite a host of difficulties, including pre-season disruptions, travelling to the UK for the World Club Challenge, injuries, suspensions and off field distractions, the team, led by Co-Captains Jamie Lyon and Jason King, rallied together magnificently to finish in the Top 4, falling only one game short of another Grand Final appearance after defeat by eventual 2012 Premiers, the Melbourne Storm. Whilst we may not have achieved our ultimate goal of successfully defending our 2011 title, we should not lose sight of just how difficult it is to remain near the top of the NRL competition each year. Accordingly, we should all be extremely proud of what was still a very successful 2012 season for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. In his first year as Head Coach, Geoff Toovey did a fantastic job despite a less than ideal preparation and I am sure he is itching to get into 2013, knowing the experience of his first year under his belt will stand him in good stead for the challenges that lie ahead. With the nucleus of the side being retained long term, particularly our young halves, Keiran Foran and Daly Cherry-Evans, we can all be justifiably confident that a 9th premiership is well within our reach in coming seasons.

    2017 Season Review Paul Hampton For the first time in Castleford’s 91 year history as a senior club they finished at the top of the table. After the regular season of 23 games the twelve team league split into the Super 8s at the top, with the bottom four joining with the Championship top four in the Qualifiers to determine promotion and relegation. Castleford finished the regular season at the top, ten points clear and maintained the lead to the end of the season. They were so far in front that the shield was awarded to them after only three games of the seven game series as they could not be caught. The nI ternational World of Sport and the Liability for Off-Field Indiscretions Abstract The recent terminations of the contracts of NRL player, Joel Monaghan and the AFL’s Brendan Fevola, for off-field indiscretions, has highlighted the significance of the bringing the game into disrepute clauses contained in standard player contracts. Tiger Woods’ extra-marital affairs received extensive world wide media attention, and the outcome of this negative coverage was the loss of millions of dollars in sponsorship deals. This indicates that such contracts can be terminated on the basis that a sportsperson’s behaviour was having a negative impact on the sponsor’s image. It is for the same reason that sponsors have put pressure on the governing bodies of team sports to take appropriate action for off-field indiscretions. We went into camp at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland on TWednesday , where the players had a recovery session followed by getting the rest of their kit thanks to BKL. That was followed by a family dinner in the hotel, then it was off to the airport to catch our Air NZ flight to the UK, with a short stopover at LA airport. The only excitement on the flight was me getting a bleeding nose as we flew out of Auckland and it never stopped the whole bloody way. The team doctor could not stop it until we got to London but all is well now. We arrived Thursday in London and stayed at the Marriott in Kensington with the first day a recovery ses- sion, with a team dinner in the hotel followed by massages for the players. The next day started with a rolling breakfast from 7am till 10am ( the same pleasant way we are starting each day) and next was monitoring and hydration in the team room, followed by a team meeting . Lunch in the hotel is followed by a weights and mobility session at a local gym called Equinox, with a team dinner out of the hotel. Saturday was much the same but Sunday we had a training run at Harrow school (very flash) followed by weights and recovery session at the school then back to the hotel for team activity which just happened to be going to an NFL game at Twickenham between the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams.
