Welcome to Feather River College’s Annual Horse Sale. Enjoy the day at our facility on the beautiful FRC campus. This sale offers a variety of horses ranging from 3 year old horses with a solid foundation to older riding horses. The majority are registered Quarter Horses. We have 22 horses this year so please take the time to be ringside to see the quality of the horses and work that went into this year’s sale. In the past we have hosted Bryan, Jim, and Luke Neubert, Ray Hunt, Les Vogt, Jack Brainard, Ed Murphy, Nick Dowers, Mike Dean, Paul Barnes and others. Our instructors use “textbooks” from those horse trainers that we consider to be legends including Bill Dorrance and Leslie Des- mond’s True Horsemanship Through Feel, Les Vogt’s Cow Horse U, Tom Dorrance’s True Unity, Ray Hunt’s Think Harmony With Horses, Sally Swift’s Centered Riding, and Jack Brainard’s If I Were to Train a Horse. Thanks to the Feather River College Equine Studies students for all their hard work to make this sale a great success. They can answer all of your questions about the horses they have trained, about the Equine Studies Degree, or about their plans for the future. Over the last fifteen years, this sale is successful with the help of Eric Duarte’s superb auctioneering skills, and Nikki Duarte’s careful attention to detail and support. A special thanks to Mike Dean and Nick Dowers for their assistance with students in the preparation of their sale horses. Gathering cows at the Dorrance Ranch

Bringing in the cows at the Dorrance Ranch Sale Horse Spring Break Most students prefer to spend their spring break lounging around a pool or basking in the sun on a warm beach. Our sale horse students are a special group… they chose to spend their spring break vacation traveling around the Salinas area taking lessons from local trainers, learning new training techniques, and making memories that will last a lifetime. Students began planning and fundraising for their Spring Break Trip well in advance of the actual event. Courthouse Café allowed the students to wait and bus tables for tips while Pet Country permitted the stu- Waiting for their turn to play with cows at the Dorrance Ranch dents to hold a tack wash, pony ride, and parking lot barbeque. Horses were carefully wrapped prior to the six hour trailer ride down to the Salinas area. Once they ar- rived at their destination, horses were exposed to geese, chickens, and other farm yard critters. Over the course of the trip, students visited three different arenas (including the beautiful Dorrance Ranch in the above photos by Suzanne Dorrance) and had four days of lessons with Jamie Walker of Walker Perfor- mance Horses (Chualrar) and Eric Dahlstrom (Aromas) who presented their unique take on horse training. Students enjoyed learning the new training tech- niques, camping in the hay barn, and bonding over home made meals (thanks to the Messerli family).
