CALLBACKS - Wednesday, January 8th

If our creative team needs to see you for a callback, you will be notified via email from the Address [email protected]. Please add this address to your contacts now to prevent it from getting lost in spam. We use callbacks as a tool to learn more about performers in the areas of singing, acting, and dancing. An invitation to callbacks is not an indicator of how the performer will be cast. Callbacks will be held by appointment.

CASTING

Cast lists for Peter Pan Jr. will be emailed before the parent/performer meeting.

A NOTE ON CASTING

Please understand that the casting process is complicated and takes into account many factors. We will not entertain questions about why a certain performer was or wasn’t cast in a certain role. Please trust our judgment and know that we will do everything we can to ensure that every performer has a good time and learns a lot along the way!

Rehearsals

LOCATION

● Rehearsals for Peter Pan Jr. will be held at Sandbox Studios, 300 Waverly Ave, Mamaroneck. In the final week for rehearsals, we will move to the performance venue.

Are all performers called to every rehearsal?

● No, not all performers are called to every rehearsal. At the Sandbox Theatre, we do our best to create a comprehensive rehearsal schedule around the conflicts of performers. We also make sure to keep each and every child engaged and rehearsing during practices. This is accomplished by only calling the performers we need to each rehearsal time - no sitting on the sides and watching!

How many times a week and for how many hours will my child be expected to rehearse?

● Depending on the grade of the child and size of the role, performers can be called one to three times per week, for one to three hours at a time. This commitment will increase during the final week leading up to the performances, known as tech week.

What days will rehearsals be held?

● Rehearsals may be held any day of the week that performers are available. Remember, no one will be called or expected to rehearse all of these days and times! These are a range of possible dates from which we will build the schedule.

My child has activities during several of the days and times listed, does this mean that they cannot participate?

● Of course your child can still participate! At the time of auditions, you'll be emailed a Conflicts Request form. This is where you can submit your conflicts. We will use this information to create the rehearsal schedule around the schedules of the performers.

Are there any mandatory dates?

● Yes! The final week of rehearsals is mandatory. ● MANDATORY DATES FOR CAST(S) PERFORMING MARCH 5-8 are March 1-8 ● MANDATORY DATES FOR CAST(S) PERFORMING MARCH 12-15 are March 8-15.

SCHEDULE AND REMINDERS

The rehearsal schedule will have ALL of the rehearsals listed as follows:

DATE

CONFLICTS

There will be an email reminder each day there is rehearsal, letting you know any important information for that day. Please try to avoid new conflicts!

WHAT TO BRING TO REHEARSALS

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON CONFLICTS

If you are listed as having a conflict for a rehearsal, OR if you cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances, it is the performers responsibility to learn the material taught at home.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF

Performers may be dropped off no earlier than 10 minutes before the start of a rehearsal. This is to give our staff members adequate preparation time, and to ensure the safety of cast members. We respectfully ask that you pick up performers on time from rehearsals.

Show Synopsis

Broadway's timeless classic musical whisks you away to a place where dreams are born and no one ever grows up! Peter and his mischievous fairy sidekick, Tinkerbell, visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night and, with a sprinkle of pixie dust, begin a magical journey across the stars that none of them will ever forget. In the adventure of a lifetime, the travelers come face to face with a ticking crocodile, a fierce Indian tribe, a band of bungling pirates and, of course, the villainous Captain Hook.

Character Breakdown

Peter Pan Peter Pan is a boy without a care in the world. This role is for singer with a soaring can-do spirit who most certainly “won’t grow up!” Requieres a boy or girl who is a triple threat; actor, singer, and be as physical as the part demands.

Wendy Darling Wendy is the eldest of the Darling children and has a certain maternal quality. Wendy is very bright, ever-practical and ready for an adventure! She is not afraid to go toe to toe with Peter and has a strong sense of self. Looking for a young lady who is an English rose with a warm presence, and great singing voice.

John Darling John is the middle Darling child and has an amicable and open presence. A little more proper than his younger brother. Must be a strong singer and actor along with movement ability.

Michael Darling Michael is the youngest Darling boy and seems to have unlimited energy. Must be a good actor who can easily portray the

youngest and most stubborn of the Darling children.

Mrs. Darling Mrs. Darling is the mother of Wendy, John and Michael, and she is the perfect picture of a mother. Should read onstage as an older character from the Victorian era.

Mr. Darling Mr. Darling is the father of Wendy, John and Michael, and he is a man with one concern: keeping his house in quiet and order.

Liza Liza is the Darling’s housekeeper who always seems to be in a bit of a frenzy as she tries to keep everyone pleased. Should be a young woman who can make strong character choices.

Tiger Tiger Lily is the fearless leader of the Brave Girls. Must have a commanding stage prescence and is a great dancer, actor, and singer

The Lost Boys The Lost Boys are a group of lads who live in Neverland without a care in the world! Cast advanced performers (and good singers) in the roles of Nibs, Slightly, Curley, Tootles, Twin #1 and Twin # 2. There is no need for the actors playing the Twins to be identical.

Pirates The Pirates are a gaggle of villains who are looking to cause some trouble. Should be young performers, male, female or both that can act, move well, and aren’t afraid to sing! Includes Noodles, Cecco, and Starkey.

Captain Hook Captain Hook, the leader of the Pirates, has a bone to pick… or rather a Peter Pan to hook! This is the perfect role for a young performer who can sing and act, but above all, has great comedic timing. Though Captain Hook is the villain of the show, he’s also a bit of a clown who just can’t seem to get what he wants. He has to be as treacherous to the Lost Boys as he is a complete wimp around the Crocodile.

Smee Smee is Captain Hook’s sidekick who wants nothing more than to see Captain Hook succeed in his evil plotting.

John, Michael, wake up – there’s a boy here who is going to teach us to fly.

Then I’ll get up at once. (NANA barks from offstage.)

JOHN

Out with the lights! Someone’s coming! (MICHAEL turns off the lights and everyone hides. LIZA enters being dragged by NANA.)

MRS. DARLING

George, we must keep Nana. I will tell you why. My dear, when I came into this room tonight I saw a face at the window.

MR. DARLING

A face at the window, two floors up?

MRS. DARLING

It was the face of a little boy; he was trying to get in.

MR. DARLING

Impossible.

MR. DARLING

That is very unusual!

MRS. DARLING

George, what can all this mean?

SCENE 5

CAPTAIN HOOK

Ay, that is the fear that haunts me. Ooohhh! Not of crocodiles but of that ONE crocodile. He liked me hand so much that he has followed me ever since - from land to land, from sea to sea, he follows the ship, licking his lips for the rest of me. Well, I want no such compliments! Smee, that crocodile would have got me long ere this if he could have crept upon me unawares. But by some lucky chance he swallowed a clock - and if goes on - tick tock tick tock - within him. And so, before he can reach me I hear the tick. Ay, that is the fear that haunts me.

SCENE 6

LOST BOYS

Oh, but now I see a wonderfuller thing. High over the lagoonI see a great big white bird! It is flying this way! It looks weary as it flies. Oh and I can hear it moaning, “Poor wendeee, poor wendee.” I think there are birds called Wendees. See, here it comes! Look! Hey, there’s Tinkerbell. What’s she sayin’ now. She says Peter wants us to shoot down the Wendee. Well let’s do what Peter wishes. Out of my way, Tink. Peter will be so pleased!
