Dog Mess is once again becoming an issue in our villages, on footpaths, village greens and also on people gardens, please can you ensure that you pick up after your dogs so that other people don’t have to pick it up or worse….stand in it! Please can people be considerate when parking cars and refrain from parking on footpaths as parked cars then become an obstacle to pedestrians, especially for pushchair and wheelchair users – thank you!

A reminder to all out walking/cycling/riding during the morning and evenings, please wear something visible (like a High Visibility Vest), BE SAFE, BE SEEN

This is a great area to live and work, we are surrounded by natural beauty, who welcome visitors from all over the globe. We are still waiting a response from Highways with regards to a review of the speed limit in Maunby.

South Otterington School - We welcomed parents into school this week, to view our World of Wonder displays and watch Mars Class assembly on our Christian Value of 'Peace'. We were delighted that Neptune class have started their visits to Mount Vale Care Home this week. The visits involve inter- generational activities, building on strengths each generation has to offer, whilst nurturing and understanding mutual respect. The children were very excited to meet a lady who was 100 years old! Our 'Friends' have arranged to be one of the organisations to benefit from some community funding from Tesco, so please support us with a blue coin if you go shopping! With regards, Amanda Gledhill . Kirby Wiske Village Hall

Kirby Wiske Parish Council meets in the Village Hall at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month with a meeting on 4th February. Agendas and minutes can be found on their website kirbywiskeparishcouncil.gov.uk/

At the last meeting of the Local History Group they enjoyed a talk with fascinating exhibits given by Ann Wall and Eileen Brereton on the role of the Red Cross Auxiliary Hospital in the North Riding of Yorkshire 1914 – 1919. They had researched the involvement of the Rector’s wife of that time, Mrs Louisa Watson, at Thirsk Auxiliary Hospital located in the Town Hall.

The next meeting on Tuesday, February 11th at 7pm in the village hall will explore among other topics of interest, the Carter family, long prominent in the area. If you know about the family or have an interest in them, please join us or make contact.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING & WHAT’S GOING ON

Newby Wiske Defibrillator we are happy to be able to confirm that the defibrillator has now been fully installed on the Old School House in the centre of the village. As with all the defibrillators should you ever need to use them you would need to ring 999 and should it be required the operator will give you the code to be able to access it and they will talk you through, exactly, how to use it. We are advised that it is a very simple piece of equipment to use and that it is perfectly safe to use - if you do ever need to use it please be assured that you cannot kill anyone with it

Spring bulbs - South Otterington are starting to come through for their second year, please can we ask people to avoid standing on them where possible and can we also remind residents who have bulbs planted on their land or in verges/borders near them not to cut them back until after their leaves have turned yellow. This is because daffodils use their leaves to create energy, which is then used to create next year’s flowers. If you cut them back before the leaves turn yellow (approx. 6 weeks after they bloom), the bulb will not produce a flower the following year
