Founded in 1961 as The Citadel Development Foundation, the organization was initially tasked with raising money exclusively for educational purposes through the academic endowment fund. Donations to The Citadel Foundation go to a variety of programs including academic scholarships, faculty support, athletic facilities, individual academic schools, program funds, and vital expenses not covered by tuition or fees. The Citadel Foundation's endowment provides funds each year for an academic enhancement grant to The Citadel. This grant significantly enhances the college's ability to achieve excellence in the education of principled leaders. The Citadel and Citadel Foundation Office of Grants Federal and Private Grants: Leigh Lipscomb, Director of Grants joined TCF in 2008. She works closely with campus on all external funding opportunities. The grants office is responsible for the following: Grant preparation education (workshops and presentations) Locating external funding opportunities Preparation of grant proposals (narratives, forms and budgets) Understanding IRB guidelines and completing the form Grant submission process In 2019, The Citadel received $6,549,000 in external grants The Citadel Brigadier Foundation (TCBF) The Citadel Brigadier Foundation serves as the principal fundraising arm for Citadel Athletics with the mission to generate financial support that provides opportunities for cadet athletes to succeed in the classroom, on the field, and in life. In 2019, we experienced the most successful year in TCBF history highlighted by growing the endowment by nearly $5 M, granting the Athletic Dept. a record amount funds, as well as exceeding overall goals in total giving. In an effort to build on last year’s momentum, we will continue to maintain a focus on the long‐term goal of increasing the Athletic Scholarship Endowment. However, in 2020, we will put an emphasis on growing the unrestricted fund to be able to meet the immediate needs of the Athletic Dept. in an effort to produce a more positive cadet athlete experience. The Citadel Real Estate Foundation (TCREF) (Est. 2016) Current projects and areas of focus are: o Developing a strategic plan for use and/or development of current Citadel land assets o Purchase and renovation of 171 Moultrie St, now 169 Moultrie Street. o Assisting The Citadel with redevelopment and enhancement of Johnson Hagood Stadium o Managing the disposition of a residential gift property portfolio on behalf of TCF For more information regarding TCREF, please contact Jonathan Kresken ’87, Jonathan Kresken ’87, 843‐953‐7760, [email protected] or Ashley Witherspoon, 843‐953‐2404, [email protected] The Citadel Foundation • 171 Moultrie Street • Charleston, SC 29409-6230 • 843.953.5297 • Fax 843.953.7689 • foundation.citadel.edu Page | 3 2020 Fall Citadel at Glance Updated: 8/2020 RPM Citadel Alumni Association Mission: provide a private, self‐sustaining, non‐profit organization to support, advance and promote the ideals and purposes of The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, the Corps of Cadets, and the Alumni; foster, perpetuate and preserve the history, memories, values and traditions of The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, the Corps of Cadets and the Alumni; and sell, award and determine the right to wear the ring of The Citadel.
