Converting domestic two-cabin First inventory to J, D, I on November 13 Frequently Asked Questions

The realignment of the domestic two-cabin aircraft will soon allow bookings in our Premium Economy cabin on international flights. This will only be a change to the booking codes. Our product and services will remain the same.

 The class of service will still be marketed and referenced as First Class, and there will be no changes to our in-flight product  No changes will occur to the inventories used for 3-class domestic flights, 2-class trans- border/Caribbean, or international flights  Changes to the cabin code and inventory class only impact reservations booked in First (F) class on U.S. 50 domestic flights operated with two-cabin aircraft for beginning January 11, 2017  The cabin code used to represent First will change from ‘F’ to ‘J’, and the booking classes associated with First will change to align with the new cabin code (see chart below)  Ticket reissuance is required since we are unable to revalidate the flight segment o Please add waiver code SCHG in the endorsement box prior to reissuance o Reissuance ensures your agency maintains ownership of the ticket and results in your customer being check-in ready prior to departure o Failure to reissue will result in American reissuing the ticket during check-in  Pre-assigned seat assignments will remain the same  Agency tickets previously reissued by American will be reissued by American since we have ticket control

After November 12, 2016 all domestic two-cabin bookings in First for departures on or after January 11, 2017 should use the booking classes shown below:

Transcontinental Flights

My customer is booked in First Class on a three-cabin transcontinental flight; will they be affected by this cabin change?

No, there are no changes to these tickets.

500 Mile Upgrades

My customer’s 500-mile upgrade was originally requested in X, but now shows R class. What happened? Did the customer retain their original request date/time stamp when the request moved from X to R?

To allow bookings in Premium Economy, American is realigning class of service booking codes, which includes moving upgrade requests previously in X to R class for travel Jan. 11, 2017 and beyond. This is only a change to the booking codes. Product and services will not change. Your customer will retain their original request date & time stamp from when they requested the upgrade.

Sabre agencies: For domestic flights, I used to request a 500-mile upgrade in X class but now I get an error message (INVALID CLASS). Why is this happening? What should I be doing differently?

To allow bookings in Premium Economy, American is realigning class of service booking codes. This is only a change to the booking codes. Product and services will not change. For travel Jan. 11, 2017 and beyond 500-mile upgrade requests should be made in R class. For travel prior to Jan. 11, 2017, you can continue to use X class where appropriate.

Non-Sabre agencies: Now that you’re selling domestic First in booking code J (R for 500-mile upgrades), do I need to do anything different when requesting an upgrade?

No, you should continue to request a 500-mile upgrade as normal. Behind the scenes, our systems will automatically request the appropriate booking class.

Now that you’re calling this Domestic First, is there any change to the number of 500-mile upgrades required (if applicable)?

No, since there is no change to the amenities or level of service you will receive, the 500-mile upgrades required (when applicable) remain the same. This is strictly a change to the booking code used.

Award Tickets

My customer was originally booked in Z, now they’re booked in U. Were they downgraded to a lower class of service? What changed?

To allow bookings in Premium Economy, American is realigning class of service booking codes which includes moving bookings in Z to U for travel Jan. 11, 2017 and beyond. This is only a change to the booking codes. Product and services will not change. This is strictly a change to the booking code used. We will work to retain their same seat assignment.

Purchased Tickets

Will the change in booking code result in any changes to the AAdvantage award miles, Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and starting January 1, 2017, Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) earned for my trip?

The award miles, EQMs and EQDs awarded will remain the same in most cases. For bulk fares and scenarios where the ticket/fare details are unavailable, the booking code percentage applied is different for bookings in F or J versus in A, P, D, R or I.

Will the change in booking code result in any changes to the credit I will receive in other loyalty programs?

Each airline sets their own policies regarding the earning rates in their loyalty program. Please check with the applicable loyalty program for details

Corporate Discounts

What happens to our corporate discounts on 2-cabin aircraft when booked in the new inventory J/D/I?

We’ve updated all existing accounts with the same discount levels to be used with the new booking codes. The same discounts they had on the old classes will now apply to the new ones.

We have Bulk fares (Lane fares) discounts in “R” class. Now that “R” class is going to be used for Free tickets, what booking class do we use for our discounts, which were filed under “R” class?

E-500 Mileage upgrades were converted from X to R, internationally “R” remains as a paid inventory class. Nothing has changed for international markets utilizing “R” as international was not in the scope of this fare class change.

Were the new fare class discounts filed and will it price correctly in SNAP?

Mileage Awards/Systemwide Upgrades

Now that you’re calling this domestic first, is there any change to mileage levels or co-pay?

No, since there is no change to the amenities or level of service you will receive, the mileage levels and co-pay amounts (when applicable) remain the same.

When my customer’s waitlisted flight was moved from A to C class, did they retain their original request date/time?

Although the request date/time changed when the new waitlisted flight was added, we retained the original order on the waitlist.

My customer’s upgrade was confirmed/waitlisted in A and now it’s in C. What happened? Did their seat assignment change?
