Cara Lazara 1, Novi Sad, Serbia and Montenegro 2Faculty of Sciences, Trg Dositeja Obradovića ,3 Novi Sad, Serbia and Montenegro Abstract: The preparation and properties of some copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes with 2-aminobenzimidazole (L) are reported. The synthesized complexes are of the general formula: [ML2Cl2]·nH2O; M=Cu, Co or Ni; n=0 or 2). The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis (metal), molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measurements and IR spectra. The antimicrobial activity of the benzimidazoles and their complexes were evaluated against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus sp. and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is found that some complexes have shown higher antimicrobial activity than ligand. Keywords: benzimidazole, complexes, copper(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), antimicrobial. 1. INTRODUCTION A wide variety of benzimidazole derivatives have been described for their chemotherapeutic importance. These compounds have shown biological activity against parasites and bacteria. Also, some of them are known to possess antibacterial, antiviral, antiinflammatory, antihypertensive, arteriosclerosis and fungicidal properties. Various benzimidazoles are effective inhibitors of the growth of lactobacilli, vaccinia virus, influenza virus and HIV-virus [2-6,8-12]. In our previous studies [8-11], we also observed that benzimidazole derivatives, as well as their complexes with transition metal ions, have shown considerable biological activity. Following our synthesis and antibacterial works on benzimidazole derivatives and theirs complexes, 297 ISIRR 2003. Section IV. Hunedoara, Romania, 2003 we now report the synthesis, physico-chemical characteristics and antimicrobial activities of copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes with 2-aminobenzimidazole. 2. EXPERIMENTAL All chemicals used to prepare the complexes were of analytical reagent grade, commercially available from different sources. Synthesis of complexes All the complexes were prepared following the same procedure. 3 A solution of 5mmol MCl2⋅6H2O (M=Cu, Co or Ni) in 20cm of EtOH was added into a solution of 10mmol of the 2-aminobenzimidazole (L) in 20cm3 EtOH. The resulting mixture was boiled under reflux on a water bath for about 2h and then cooled. The complexes were separated from the reaction mixture by filtration, washed with EtOH and dried in vacuo over CaCl2. The yield of the complexes varied in the range 50-55%. Measurement methods Elemental analysis was carried out by standard micromethods. Magnetic susceptibility measurements were made at room temperature using an MSB-MKI magnetic susceptibility balance (Sherwood Scientific Ltd., Cambridge, England). Molar conductivies of freshly prepared 1⋅10-3moldm-3 solutions (DMF) were measured on a Jenway 4010 conductivity meter. Infrared spectra (KBr pellets) were recorded on an Infrared 457 Perkin-Elmer spectrophotometer. Antimicrobial investigations For these investigations the filter paper disc method was applied. Each of the investigated isolates of bacteria were seeded in the tubes with nutrient broth (NB). The seeded NB (1cm3) were homogenized in the tubes with 9cm3 of melted (45oC) nutrient agar (NA). The homogenous suspension was poured into Petri dishes. The discs of filter paper (diameter 5mm) were ranged on cool. After cooling on the formed solid medium, 2⋅10-5dm3 of the investigated compounds were placed with micropipette. After incubation for 24 hours in thermostat at 25-27oC, inhibition (sterile) zone diameters (including disc) were measured and expressed

Whereas the vast majority of the contributions contained in the volume fall outside my area of expertise, I feel there are a number of points in He- ather Williams’ piece „Partisans And Chetniks in occupied Yugoslavia“ that need to be addressed in some detail. Let’s start: • p. 392: „The Independent State of Croatia (the NDH) had already adhered to the Tripartite Pact on April 10 and withdrawn from hostilities.“ The NDH was proclaimed on 10 April 1941; it would officially join the -Tri partite Pact only on 15 June 1941. (Bogdan Krizman, „Pavelić između Hitlera i Musolinija“, Zagreb, Globus, 1980, p. 76). • p. 393: „In Serbia, the German invasion of the USSR on June 11, combined with feelings of outrage at the suffering of fellow Orthodox Christians arriving as refugees from the NDH, produced a spontaneous rising, encouraged by the withdrawal of many German frontline divisions to the east.“ The invasion of the USSR began on 22 June 1941. Unlike the sudden, violent, and largely spontaneous uprisings in Montenegro and the NDH, the uprising in Serbia was a much more gradual, snowball- effect affair, set in motion by the Communists.

    SSOOCCIIOO--EECCOONNOOMMIICC DDAATTAA OOFF SSUUMMAADDIIJJAA AANNDD PPOOMMOORRAAVVLLJJEE The basic geographic and historical data Geography and topography Region of Sumadija and Pomoravlje is located in the central part of the Republic of Serbia, in between big rivers the Sava and the Danube in the north, the Great Morava in the east, the Western Morava in the west. Sumadija and Pomoravlje consist of following areas: Temnic, Levac, Gruza, Belica, Lepenica, Jasenica, Takovo, Kacer, Kosmaj, Belgrade and Smederevo Danube Region. The total area of the region is 5001km2, which makes 5.6% of the total area of the Republic of Serbia. On this territory, according to the last official census, conducted 2011th live 507 844 people, and the average population density of 101 inhabitants per km2. Proportion of population Sumadije and Pomoravlje in the total population of the Republic of Serbia is 7%. Region of Sumadija and Pomoravlje consists of two districts: Sumadija and Pomoravlje. Sumadija District includes the City of Kragujevac and six municipalities: Arandjelovac, Batocina, Lapovo, Knic, Raca and Topola. Heritage is an active memory, preservation of the process of “testimony” in a tangible and intangible aspect, that is, the process of remembering, as well as the possibility of reviving and repeating the cognitive processes, and cultural routes are a tool in the presentation of the heritage of various countries as part of the common European cultural heritage. Together, of course, they make a segment in the development of the tourism in the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is by means of the method of deduction, that is, the analysis and specialization of what is general and already understood to an understanding of particular and individual, that the places and motives, cultural and historical landscapes/attractions, which we want to preserve and present to the visitors in the best possible manner through organized thematic cultural routes, will be presented. One must fight for the authenticity of unquestionable values through a well-thought out and organized activity, and further on in this work the proposals, possibilities but also barriers will be presented with the aim of protecting and promoting the cultural and historical, as well as the natural heritage as touristic potential.

VEGRA3 1) Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciencies, University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2) Department of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences (IHA), Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Aas, Norway 3) Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric), Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Aas, Norway Abstract The Neretva river is the largest tributary (225 km) entering the Adriatic Sea, and it covers 20% of the total water basin of Bosnia and Herzegovina.The Neretva river is home to several salmonids, and three of them are endemic: softmouth trout (Salmothymus obtusirostris oxyrhynchus), marble trout (Salmon Marmoratus) and dentex trout (Salmo dendex). Brown trout (Salmo trutta m.fario) is an autochthonous trout of the Neretva River. Fabricated constructions and activities in the river have partly destroyed the biotype of these salmonids. The unplanned restocking of the Neretva, by introducing autochthonous species (grayling, rainbow trout, brook trout) is an issue in this area. The main objective of the proposed protection plan, discussed in this study, is to plan and develop a sustainable breeding program to ensure the conservation of each of the autochthonous trout species in the Neretva and its tributaries. The rehabilitation of vital fish stocks will be supported by training people involved in fisheries, aquaculture and ecology. All these activities will be based at the restored Center for Fisheries “Neretva” – Konjic.
