    Gaj Trifković: Zašto je pogrešno javni institut za povijest nazvati imenom Franje Tuđmana GAJ TRIFKOVIĆ Sarajevo Partisans and Chetniks in occupied Yugoslavia by Heather Williams – A Commentary by Gaj Trifković Being a historian of the region, I naturally welcomed the publishing of The Routled- ge Handbook of Balkan and Southeast European History in October 2020 (for more information on this edited volume see https://www.routledge.com/The-Routled- ge-Handbook-of-Balkan-and-Southeast-European-History/Lampe-Brunnbauer/p/ book/9781138613089). Whereas the vast majority of the contributions contained in the volume fall outside my area of expertise, I feel there are a number of points in He- ather Williams’ piece „Partisans And Chetniks in occupied Yugoslavia“ that need to be addressed in some detail. Let’s start: • p. 392: „The Independent State of Croatia (the NDH) had already adhered to the Tripartite Pact on April 10 and withdrawn from hostilities.“ The NDH was proclaimed on 10 April 1941; it would officially join the -Tri partite Pact only on 15 June 1941. (Bogdan Krizman, „Pavelić između Hitlera i Musolinija“, Zagreb, Globus, 1980, p. 76). • p. 393: „In Serbia, the German invasion of the USSR on June 11, combined with feelings of outrage at the suffering of fellow Orthodox Christians arriving as refugees from the NDH, produced a spontaneous rising, encouraged by the withdrawal of many German frontline divisions to the east.“ The invasion of the USSR began on 22 June 1941. Unlike the sudden, violent, and largely spontaneous uprisings in Montenegro and the NDH, the uprising in Serbia was a much more gradual, snowball- effect affair, set in motion by the Communists.

    SSOOCCIIOO--EECCOONNOOMMIICC DDAATTAA OOFF SSUUMMAADDIIJJAA AANNDD PPOOMMOORRAAVVLLJJEE The basic geographic and historical data Geography and topography Region of Sumadija and Pomoravlje is located in the central part of the Republic of Serbia, in between big rivers the Sava and the Danube in the north, the Great Morava in the east, the Western Morava in the west. Sumadija and Pomoravlje consist of following areas: Temnic, Levac, Gruza, Belica, Lepenica, Jasenica, Takovo, Kacer, Kosmaj, Belgrade and Smederevo Danube Region. The total area of the region is 5001km2, which makes 5.6% of the total area of the Republic of Serbia. On this territory, according to the last official census, conducted 2011th live 507 844 people, and the average population density of 101 inhabitants per km2. Proportion of population Sumadije and Pomoravlje in the total population of the Republic of Serbia is 7%. Region of Sumadija and Pomoravlje consists of two districts: Sumadija and Pomoravlje. Sumadija District includes the City of Kragujevac and six municipalities: Arandjelovac, Batocina, Lapovo, Knic, Raca and Topola. Total area of Sumadija District is 2.387 km2, of which 835 km2 covers the City of Kragujevac that is also the largest settlement in the Region. Population of Sumadija District is 298.778 inhabitants with average density of 125 Inhabitants/km2. Pomoravlje district make the city Jagodina and five municipalities Despotovac Paracin, Rekovac, Svilajnac and Ćuprija. With a total area of 2617km2 and 214536 inhabitants, Pomoravlje district has an average population density of 82 inhabitants per km2. Heritage is an active memory, preservation of the process of “testimony” in a tangible and intangible aspect, that is, the process of remembering, as well as the possibility of reviving and repeating the cognitive processes, and cultural routes are a tool in the presentation of the heritage of various countries as part of the common European cultural heritage. Together, of course, they make a segment in the development of the tourism in the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is by means of the method of deduction, that is, the analysis and specialization of what is general and already understood to an understanding of particular and individual, that the places and motives, cultural and historical landscapes/attractions, which we want to preserve and present to the visitors in the best possible manner through organized thematic cultural routes, will be presented. One must fight for the authenticity of unquestionable values through a well-thought out and organized activity, and further on in this work the proposals, possibilities but also barriers will be presented with the aim of protecting and promoting the cultural and historical, as well as the natural heritage as touristic potential.
