He was educated at the University of Copenhagen, majoring in biochemistry and chemistry, and has a Master of Science degree in biochemistry and genetics, and a PhD in photosynthesis. A member of the Australian Government’s University Foreign Interference Taskforce, Professor Høj was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2019 for “eminent service to higher education and to science, particularly to the commercialisation of research, and to policy development and reform”. Professor Høj is a Fellow of Academies in Australia, the USA and Denmark, and has been awarded honorary doctorates from institutions including the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, and University of Copenhagen. In addition to his academic leadership roles, Professor Høj is a Board Member of Wine Australia and a Trustee of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. His previous Board roles include the Australian Medical Research Advisory Board for the Medical Research Future Fund, Member of the Australian Human Rights Commission Leadership Council on Cultural Diversity, Group of Eight (including Chair in 2017), Universities Australia, CSIRO, Business SA and South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. Karyn Kent Chief Executive, StudyAdelaide @StudyAdelaide Following a career in destination marketing that included executive roles with the South Australian Tourism Commission in Adelaide and Tourism Australia in Singapore, Karyn Kent joined StudyAdelaide in 2014 as its Chief Executive. StudyAdelaide’s role is to increase awareness of Adelaide as a study destination, and deliver programs to support international students in Adelaide. In 2016, Karyn was appointed to the national Council for International Education, which was formed to oversee the implementation of Australia’s first National Strategy for International Education, working with education providers, industry, and Commonwealth, state and territory governments. A Dublin-born and educated chemist who specialises in computer-aided drug design, Professor Lloyd has re-focused institutional culture to position UniSA as Australia's university of enterprise and to shape its activities to better meet the challenges of the 21st century. Professor Lloyd was a member of the South Australia Economic Development Board (EDB) from 2014 to 2018. A past Chair of the Australian Technology Network group of technology-focused universities, he now sits on the board of Universities Australia, the peak body representing the university sector where he is the lead vice-chancellor for research & innovation. He was also appointed to the Australian Research Council’s (ARC) Advisory Council to provide advice to the ARC on key research policy issues, to lend independent strategic guidance and experience that will strengthen the ARC’s ability to support research and innovation in Australia. In 2019 he was appointed as chair of the Committee for Adelaide which is dedicated to meeting 21st century challenges and opportunities. Before joining the University of South Australia, Professor Lloyd was Vice- president for Research and later Bursar and Director of Strategic Innovation at Trinity College Dublin. Professor Lloyd was Chair of the Irish Research Council and prior to academia, worked in the pharmaceutical industry in the UK. He holds an honorary Professorship from Tianjin University, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering. Professor Lloyd qualified with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Chemistry and a PhD in Medicinal Organic Chemistry from Dublin City University. He additionally holds an MA (j.o.) from Trinity College and an Honorary Doctorate from the late Sir Terry Pratchett’s Unseen University. Professor Alwyn Louw Vice Chancellor, Torrens University @TorrensUni Professor Alwyn Louw was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Torrens University in January 2020 following a distinguished 20-year career in senior academic leadership and management experience. This included serving as President of the University and Academic President at Monash South Africa, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Academic and Research at Vaal University of Technology (South Africa) and Vice Principal at the University of South Africa. A sociologist by training, Professor Louw has published extensively on a broad range of issues including societal development, gender equity, civil society and community, future of education, new generation universities, research and innovation. Professor Louw is also highly regarded for his work in building new approaches to higher education by ensuring access to high-quality education for all through a deliberate focus shift to inclusivity and affordability. Professor Louw has extensive private, civic and charitable sector experience including serving as Chair and Director of South Africa Private Higher Education, Chair of Board of Directors for Africa, Operation Mobilisation, President of South African Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Chair Pro Christo Global Mission and Chair of Cancer Association in Kimberley (South Africa). He is President & Vice- Chancellor of Flinders University, in South Australia. Scottish-born, he holds a PhD in genetics from the University of Glasgow, and was a NATO Research Fellow of the University of California, Berkeley, before developing his distinguished academic career as Professor of Genetics at the University of Manchester. He has been awarded several prestigious research fellowships and prizes including the Lister Institute Jenner Fellowship and the Fleming Award. He has held a range of leadership positions including Vice-President at the University of Manchester, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and later Provost & Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Curtin University. Professor Stirling serves on various Boards and Committees including, Education Australia Ltd and Innovative Research Universities and is currently a Non-Executive Director of the ASX 200 company, IDP Education Ltd. facilitator Melinda Cilento Chief Executive, CEDA @MelindaCilento Melinda is a company director, economist and experienced senior executive.
