Mission of the Library, Archives and Museum The Library, Archives and Museum are a major component of South Carolina’s only state-assisted military college, The Citadel. They participate in the teaching, research, and public service programs of The Citadel: by providing scholarly information; by the acquisition, organization, management, preservation, and arrangement of collections for access and use; by provision of supportive reference and instruction services; and by a variety of cooperative and reciprocal programs in the local area, the region and the state. As a collaborator in the process of teaching, research, and public service, they provide leadership in the use of information both on The Citadel campus and in the Charleston Academic Library Consortium (CALC), the local consortium of area libraries. The faculty and staff of the Library, Archives and Museum play an important role in improving the delivery, management, and use of information. The Library, Archives and Museum will continue to be a place where information resources are physically and electronically available. The building is an important resource for study and research. However, through electronic networking we will seek ways to deliver information to users at the place and moment of need. As the campus leader in the acquisition, organization, and delivery of information, we face a significant challenge. That challenge is to deliver knowledge via new technologies and methods while continuing to support more traditional modes of scholarly communication, and to maintain and update an antiquated building. -

The Guidon 2016 - 2017 The South Carolina Corps of Cadets WELCOME TO THE CITADEL The Guidon is published every year as a source of information for fourth-class cadets. As a member of the Class of 2020, you are highly encouraged to familiarize yourself with all of the information enclosed in The Guidon. Since your initial time on campus will be filled with many activities, it is suggested to be familiar with as much of this information as possible before you report. The Guidon consists of two parts: general information that will help a cadet recruit become acclimated to The Citadel campus and lifestyle and required fourth-class knowledge, a mix of traditional Citadel knowledge and leader development knowledge. The cadet chain of command will test knobs on each piece of required knowledge and record the results in the tracking log in the back of The Guidon. This log and the process associated with it will be one assessment tool TACs can use as part of determining whether or not to certify cadets in several LDP learning outcomes. The required knowledge will be presented in manageable sizes that correspond to milestones in the fourth-classmen’s progression through the year. The milestones are broken down as follows: the end of Challenge Week, the end of Cadre Period, the end of first semester, and second semester until Recognition Day. The knowledge progresses from rudimentary information through more complex ideas, and culminates with the cadets becoming familiar with the Leadership Development Plan for The Citadel and how they will fit into that plan as upperclassmen. -

2019 – 2018 The Guidon The Guidon | 2018–2019 THE CITADEL CODE To revere God, love my country, and be loyal to The Citadel. To be faithful, honest, and sincere in every act and purpose and to know that honorable failure is better than success by unfairness or cheating. To perform every duty with fidelity and conscientiousness and to make duty my watchword. To obey all orders and regulations of The Citadel and of property authority. To refrain from intoxicants, narcotics, licentiousness, profanity, vulgarity, disorder, and anything that might subject me to reproach or censure within or without the college. To be diligent in my academic studies and in my military training. To do nothing inconsistent with my status as a cadet. To take pride in my uniform and in the noble traditions of the college and never do anything that would bring discredit upon them. To be courteous and professional in my deportment, bearing, and speech, and to exhibit good manners on all occasions. To cultivate dignity, poise, affability, and a quiet and firm demeanor. You are to be commended for accepting the academic, physical and mental challenges that await you. Those challenges will foster personal growth that develops you in mind, body and spirit. Your time as a cadet will be more demanding and more rewarding than you ever thought possible. The Eason-Banks Family Quilt A Long Journey Home Four Kindred Quilts Found Harriet Elizabeth Sillivant Family Quilt, 1845 Sheila Bishop of Charleston, South Carolina, inherited this 1845 chintz quilt from her grandmother, Harriet Elizabeth Sillivant. Six of the names found on this quilt are also on the Eason- Banks Family Quilt. They are Caroline T. Banks, Harriet Burns (Walterboro), Gracey Lanneau, Elizabeth Windsor, Martha E. Windsor, and Jane Jones Windsor. Heister, Jan. “chintz quilt.” Message to Virginia Winn. 7 Nov 2012. Email. The Sillivant Family Quilt is privately owned by Sheila Bishop. Lavinia Eason Family Quilt, 1845 This is an appliqued floral chintz design in browns, reds and blues on a white background. One square is marked “…Lavinia Eason Feby 8th 1845….” It came from the estate of Jennie C. Dreher. It went up for auction at the Charlton Hall Auction House; but when it did not sell, according to Jan Heister, curator at the Charleston Museum, Charleston, South Carolina, it was given to Goodwill. It was from the Jennie Dreher collection and was auctioned through Charlton Hall. -
