HIDDEN CARGO: A CAUTIONARY TALE ABOUT AGROTERRORISM AND THE SAFETY OF IMPORTED PRODUCE 1. INTRODUCTION The attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Septem ber 11, 2001 ("9/11") demonstrated to the United States ("U.S.") Gov ernment the U.S. is vulnerable to a wide range of potential terrorist at tacks. l The anthrax attacks that occurred immediately following the 9/11 attacks further demonstrated the vulnerability of the U.S. to biological attacks. 2 The U.S. Government was forced to accept its citizens were vulnerable to attacks within its own borders and the concern of almost every branch of government turned its focus toward reducing this vulner ability.3 Of the potential attacks that could occur, we should be the most concerned with biological attacks on our food supply. ABSTRACT Surveys of retail security directors show that almost half of those polled had been the victims of a supply- chain disruption directly related to cargo theft. This is a significant increase from just five years ago. In order to fully understand the issue of cargo theft, retailers need to know why it exists, who is perpetrating it, how risk can be reduced, and ultimately how to react to a loss. This article explores a number of dimensions of the issue, and offers several suggestions for mitigating the risk and dealing with theft after it occurs. Congress in FY2005 funded the procurement of the first LCS and provided advance procurement funding for the first DD(X), which the Navy wants to procure in FY2007. The FY2006-FY2011 Future Years Defense Plan (FYDP) reduces planned DD(X) procurement to one per year in FY2007-FY2011 and accelerates procurement of the first CG(X) to FY2011. The FY2006 budget requests $666 million in advanced procurement funding for the first DD(X), which is planned for procurement in FY2007, $50 million in advance procurement funding for the second DD(X), which is planned for procurement in FY2008, and $1,115 million for DD(X)/CG(X) research and development. The budget requests $613.3 million for the LCS program, including $240.5 million in research and development funding to build the second LCS, $336.0 million in additional research and development funding, and $36.8 million in procurement funding for LCS mission modules. -

We focused on the A-6, F-14, and F/A-18 carrier-based aircraft, although we also reviewed the flying hour program as it relates to other carrier-based aircraft. The information pertains to naval aviation prior to the commencement of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. While the concepts discussed in the report and the prior years data presented are still relevant, the fiscal year 1991 budget data do not reflect the commencement of the air war in January 1991. C/ Severo Ochoa, 4 - 28760 Tres Cantos - Madrid (Spain) Abstract The marine structures are developed with Computer Aided Design (CAD) platforms, but every day we are looking for integrated development of the product involving all its Life Cycle. CAD system integrated with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and from the PLM we can conceive all the design but also control the production and include the use of the vessel. The PLM can contain information of all systems of the vessel and also all its components. If the components are designed for the Internet of Ships (IoS) it will have technology that allows to share their situation, diagnosis, functionality with the PLM system which distributes the initial design. The PLM system can use this information for knowing whether they are working properly or if we can improve its performance. It is also possible to identify whether it is necessary to make maintenance of the object or if it is necessary to replace it because its life ends or because it's working wrongly. It will be possible to determine and evaluate its performance comparing to other similar components or comparing to it different operating periods. It will also be possible to know how their performance affects the functioning of the whole product, i.e., the vessel. Furthermore, if the connection of the objects is realized with its PLM, it would be possible to record their history status, make change tracking, and know what is its function or its performance after realizing programmed maintenance. -

To compensate for this apparent injustice, Kommersant Vlast analytical weekly has compiled The Entire Russian Fleet directory. It is especially topical since even Russia’s Commander-in-Chief compared himself to a slave on the galleys a week ago. The directory lists all 238 battle ships and submarines of Russia’s Naval Fleet, with their board numbers, year of entering service, name and rank of their commanders. It also contains the data telling to which unit a ship or a submarine belongs. For first-class ships, there are schemes and tactic-technical characteristics. So detailed data on all Russian Navy vessels, from missile cruisers to base type trawlers, is for the first time compiled in one directory, making it unique in the range and amount of information it covers. The Entire Russian Fleet carries on the series of publications devoted to Russia’s armed forces. Vlast has already published similar directories about the Russian Army (#17-18 in 2002, #18 in 2003, and #7 in 2005) and Russia’s military bases (#19 in 2007). -
