PARVIZI American Dental Society of Europe - Object (Article Two) The object of this Society shall be to afford dentists who are graduates or holders of an accredited certificate of a recognised dental school in the United States or Canada, the benefits of an organisation for the promotion of more extensive professional intercourse, by meeting together at stated times for the discussion of questions of professional interest. page 2 INFORMATION REGISTRATION Pre-registered delegates, whether Members, Guests, Essayists, Clinicians or Visitors will be able to collect their tickets and name badges from the Registration desk on Wednesday 27th June from 17.00 - 18.00 or Thursday 28th June from 07.30. SOCIAL EVENTS Pre booking for all social events is advised as numbers may be limited for some events. Early booking greatly facilitates confirmation of numbers and local arrangements (coaches etc). For those who have not pre-registered, any remaining tickets for the social programme will be available. However there is no guarantee that such tickets will be available or that the original price will still pertain. Currency - The official Currency in Austria is EURO (€). Passport and Visa - Some delegates traveling to Austria may require a visa. We suggest that applicants for a Visa are made as soon as possible as wait times can be several weeks. Special letters of invitation can be obtained from the Congress Organisers. Electricity - The main voltage in Austria is 220V. Time - Vienna is in the Central European Time Zone (GMT +1hour). Credit cards are also accepted by numerous hotels, restaurants, shops and gas stations. page 3 INFORMATION TRAVEL INFORMATION Access by PLANE 73 international airlines offer scheduled services to Vienna. There are several daily flights between Vienna and the main European capitals and business centres. Austrian Airlines, the country's flag carrier, connects 116 cities worldwide with Vienna and offers modern aircrafts and excellent service. Vienna International Airport at Schwechat, 19 km (12 miles) from the city centre, is state-of-the-art in every respect. Access by ROAD Austria's expressway network reaches right into Vienna, allowing a comfortable and convenient trip to Vienna by car or coach from any point within the European continent. Access by TRAIN Vienna occupies a hub position in Europe's international railway network. Intercity and international express trains are connecting cities of all parts of Austria and all major European destinations with Vienna. From the Airport to the City Centre and Vice Versa Bus: At 20-minute intervals, the Vienna Airport Lines depart between 05:30 and 24:00 daily. Cost: approx. EUR 6,00. Duration: approx. 20-30 min. Train: The urban railway leaves at 10-30 min. intervals between 05:00 and 22:00 daily. Cost: approx. EUR 3,00. Duration: approx. 30-40 min. Car: Take Autobahn A4 from the Airport to Vienna. The city centre is signposted. CAT: The City Airport Train runs at 30-minute intervals from 06:05 to 23:00 daily from the airport to train station "Landstrasse/ Wien Mitte". Meet in hotel foyer at 08:00 THURSDAY 28th JUNE 09.00 - 09.30 OFFICIAL OPENING Members and guests welcome 10.30 - 15.30 DAY TOUR - SCHÖNBRUNN PALACE Meet in Hotel lobby at 10:30. A coach will take us to Schönbrunn Castle, on the outskirts of Vienna, the former Imperial 1,441 room Rococo summer residence of the Habsburg monarchs. You will get a guided tour on the inside of this massive Palace as well as outside in the beautiful Gardens with it’s sculptures, orangerie and Europe's oldest Zoo. At the end of the Gardens you will see the Gloriette positioned on a 60 meter high hill. Back to the Hotel by 16.00. 19.00 - 23.00 DINNER and VIENNESE evening at MAYER at the Pfarrplatz Meet in Hotel lobby at 18.30. The Winery Mayer am Pfarrplatz is since 1683 located in Heiligenstadt the 9th “Bezirk”of Vienna. Ludwig van Beethoven lived here in 1817 where he composed his 9th Symphony. We will experience a “Heurige” evening with Viennese food, wine and accompanied with typical “Schrammel” music. Weather permitting we will enjoy our evening in the garden, a great night, not to be missed! page 6 SOCIAL PROGRAMME F R I D A Y 2 9 t h J U N E 08.30 - 16.30 STIF MELK ABBEY and WACHAU wine area The bus, which departs from the Hotel at 08.30, will take us to the Melk Abbey or Stift Melk which is an Austrian Benedictine abbey, and one of the world's most famous monastic sites. It is located above the town of Melk on a rocky outcrop overlooking the river Danube in Lower Austria, adjoining the Wachau valley. The abbey was founded in 1089 when Leopold II, Margrave of Austria gave one of his castles to Benedictine monks from Lambach Abbey. A monastic school, the Stiftsgymnasium Melk, was founded in the 12th century, and the monastic library soon became renowned for its extensive manuscript collection. The monastery's scriptorium was also a major site for the production of manuscripts. In the 15th century the abbey became the centre of the Melk Reform movement which reinvigorated the monastic life of Austria and Southern Germany. After lunch the bus will take a different route through small villages back to the Hotel where you will arrive at approximately 16.30. 20.20 - 21.00 CIVIC RECEPTION The Civic reception will be held at Vienna City Hall in the “Wappensaal” (Blazonry Hall). Meet in the Imperial Hotel lobby at 19:30 sharp. After the Civic reception the choice for a dinner at one of the many available, some famous, restaurants will be completely yours and a list of suggestions will be made available to you. page 7 SOCIAL PROGRAMME SATURDAY 30th JUNE 10.00 – 13.00 HALF DAY GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF VIENNA As the Hotel is closely located near the Centre of Vienna, the guide will take you on a easy walking tour to all the famous places which are located within a 3 square kilometres. You will see the Hofburg Palace, the Opera building, the Spanish Riding school, it’s stables and of course Stephan's Dome. The tour will end within the City centre offering you the possibility discovering more of Vienna, to have a coffee at either Sacher or Demel or to do some shopping in this great and wonderful City which many consider a living monument. 19.30 for 20.00 RECEPTION and BANQUET at the VIENNA TOWN HALL Black tie (Tuxedo) event in the magnificent Town Hall of Vienna. Bus departs hotel at 19.15. This year we have done things differently and you will be entertained with a typical Austrian Dinner Show.
