In queste pagine di diario il ragazzo scoprirà la cultura italiana attraverso l’arte e la cucina. Torino all’inizio mi è sembrata un po’ caotica rispetto alla mia città, Angkor Wat in Cambogia! Però mi sono davvero meravigliato per tutti i monumenti, piazze, musei, palazzi che la caratterizzano tra cui il simbolo di Torino: la Mole Antonelliana. Che meraviglia! Tutti i turisti quando la vedono rimangono affascinati per la sua originalità! Anche il linguaggio dei giovani torinesi non passa inosservato; infatti ho incontrato un gruppo di adolescenti del posto che chiacchieravano e chattavano e chiesi loro di farmi una foto con la Mole, ma uno mi rispose: “Ehi frà, stai shallo, è solo un monumento …” Strani i ragazzini di oggi, no? Il panorama dall’alto è mozzafiato! Superga, circondata dalle montagne! La mia attenzione è stata catturata da due palazzi imponenti e maestosi: Palazzo Reale e Palazzo Madama. Palazzo Reale sono riuscito a visitarlo e direi che ogni stanza è perfetta e abbinata ai propri quadri, per non parlare dell’armeria, della biblioteca e delle luccicanti armature: devo proprio affermare che questi Savoia avevano davvero il lusso nel loro palazzo! La mia religione è rappresentata, a differenza di quella cristiana da templi e palazzi invece la chiesa di San Lorenzo è una vera “chicca”: alcuni mosaici curatissimi la rendono molto suggestiva. È in stile barocco eseguita dal Guarini. Sempre in piazza Castello, dal lato di via Po si affaccia il Teatro Regio: un teatro antico e maestoso che ha sempre rappresentato una parte della cultura musicale torinese. Lungo la strada verso il museo Egizio trovai una gelateria artigianale che a differenza dei nostri gelati confezionati offriva molti più gusti: gianduia, pistacchio, stracciatella, nocciola… Caro diario, ho fatto una scoperta fantastica! Però mi resi conto di averne mangiato troppo e così sono arrivato tardi alla visita al museo Egizio. Vedendomi preoccupato e un po’ sporco di gelato, mi fecero entrare lo stesso. Società Dante Alighieri Comitato di Torino CONCORSO LETTERARIO “SCRIVI PER NOI!” quarta edizione Rimasi sbalordito dalla quantità di reperti archeologici presenti, mi sembrava di essere nella loro epoca, un meraviglioso salto nel passato, anche se alcune mummie mi facevano impressione! Non ho potuto rinunciare però ad andare in piazza Vittorio, una delle piazze più grandi d’Europa, ben 18 km di portici con tutti i ristoranti e negozi e approfittando della vicinanza ho visitato il Santuario della Consolata, una delle chiese più antiche e preziose di Torino. Per concedermi un po’ di riposo, ho noleggiato una bicicletta e sono andato al Parco del Valentino. Mentre pedalavo, scorsi “tra […] la selva oscura”, una riproduzione di un borgo medievale sulle rive del fiume Po, questo grande fiume che attraversa Torino e ha visto passare tutta la storia di questa magnifica città! Caro diario, per adesso ho terminato il mio racconto, appena avrò nuove notizie ti farò sapere. Ciao! Ieri sera sono andato a casa di Giacomo, un mio compagno di università, che mi ha preparato una cena tipica piemontese. Abbiamo parlato di gastronomia come cultura. La tavola era imbandita con piatti e bicchieri con decorazioni floreali. Ho assaggiato i tipici grissini torinesi così croccanti che a masticarli era una strana sensazione. La salsina del vitello tonnato era fantastica! Come primo piatto Giacomo ha cucinato gli agnolotti del plin in brodo: buonissimi! Abbiamo iniziato a scambiarci delle ricette: riso, trote, carpe e spezie contro meringata, bicerin, bagna caoda e gianduiotti! Ho fotografato alcuni piatti, uno cambogiano e uno torinese per metterli a confronto. VS LOK LAK BAGNA CAODA Domani i miei nuovi amici mi porteranno ad assaggiare la tipica bevanda di Torino. In piemontese si chiama “bicerin” che indica un piccolo bicchiere. Si tratta di una ricetta inventata nell’Ottocento e mi hanno riferito che piaceva molto a Cavour. Il bicerin non si beve dappertutto e il posto più classico dove fanno la ricetta originaria è un piccolo baruccio davanti al Santuario della Consolata. La ricetta è apparentemente molto semplice: una parte di cioccolata calda, una parte un po’ più piccola di caffè e un grosso ciuffo di panna montata con una spolverata di cacao. Il risultato, mi dicono sia una vera esplosione di gusti che non vedo l’ora di conoscere. Caro diario a domani, così ti racconterò una nuova giornata torinese! Ciao! Once in Turin it was housed in a large building in the center of town where it resides until today. The collection was expanded with the purchase of more than 1200 objects gathered by Giuseppe Sossio, in 1833, and the more than 35,000 objects excavated and purchased by Ernesto Schiaparelli (1856‒1928) between 1900 and 1920. In the 1960s, the Nubian Temple of Ellesiya was presented by the Egyptian to the Italian government—to recognize their assistance during the UNESCO campaign to save the Nubian monuments—and rebuilt in the Museo Egizio. Next to this temple, important constituents of the collection include the Old Kingdom Tomb of the Unknown, the New Kingdom Tomb of Kha and Merit, several complete copies of the Book of the Dead, the Turin List of Kings, and the Turin Papyrus Map. The Fondazione Museo delle Antichità Egizie was established in 2004 as the result of an innovative configuration blending private and public funding, which is an experiment in museum management in Italy.

When I try to describe Piedmont [2] to an American friend I always say, in very general terms, that Piedmont is to Italy what Northern California is to the United States. I find fascinating and funny that in Northern California there’s also a region called Piedmont. In both countries these areas are associated with elite tourists, usually foodies and wine-lovers, as well as more of a rough crowd that enjoys extreme sports and the beauty of nature – those who like to hike, explore, and are drawn to adventurous physical activities. Both regions have hills famous for their vineyards, and they both have big National Parks. There are mountains and ski-resorts but the sea is not too far away. Participating in this Conference means to know something more about the different Military Veterinary Services of the fighting Nations involved in World War One, sparing a thought for the men who lay behind this Military façade. Men with different uniforms, from different Countries, who shared the same fears, anguish and doubts day in and day out. Regardless of their nationalities, faith or political beliefs, may this Congress pay a due and sincere homage to these men. EVENT LOCATION The Italian Army Veterinary Service, in cooperation with the Italian Society of the Veterinary Sciences, the Italian Association of the History of the Veterinary Medicine and Farriery, and the Veterinary Sciences Museum of the University in Turin has organized this Historical Congress.     From Lombardy to Lazio Exploring the Hidden Treasures of Italy with Judy Pike & Friends October 6 - 19, 2011 eeping up our “Hidden Treasures” theme from last year, this K year’s annual adventure is going to explore some regions of Italy that are often overlooked by the mainstream tourist. We begin in the Piedmont, in the northwest corner of Italy, sur- rounded on three sides by mountains and leading out into the fertile Po valley to the east. This geographical location has been the crucial factor in determining the region’s history and devel- opment: although relatively isolated from its neighbors by the Alps, Piedmont controls the two major mountain passes between France and Italy, putting it directly in the path of both traders and invaders. We then head south, using the beautiful resort town of Forte dei Marmi as our base for exploring the Ligurian coast, and especial- ly the fabulous Cinque Terre. From here we’ll continue to Siena, the heart of Tuscany, where we’ll delve deep into the Tuscan countryside keeping well off the regular tourist paths. Our final stay is in Lazio, the region just north of Rome. We’ll stay on Lake Bracciano, an old volcanic crater and the cleanest lake in the country (or so they claim!).
