Adrian Jicu Department of Romanian Language and Literature, Faculty of Letters, “Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacău Spiru Haret, 8, 600114, Bacău, Romania [email protected] Abstract The aim of the present paper is to deal with the relationship between literary criticism and anatomy. To be more precise it will discuss one of Henric Sanielevici’s theories, according to which the literary text can only be understood by taking into account the colour of the eyes, the conformation of teeth and size and the shape of the author’s skull. Key-words: skull, brain, dolicephalic, brachicephalic, interdisciplinarity, anatomy, anthropology, literary criticism 1. Introduction Interdisciplinarity is today widely spread. Literary criticism makes no exception, especially in the second half of the XXth century, when it develops connections to different fields such as religion, sociology, psychology, psychoanalysis or neurosciences. Yet, the begginins of such an interdisciplinary approach in criticism can be traced around 1900, when a Romanian thinker, Henric Sanielevici, almost unknown today, comes with some revolutionary ideas, aiming at changing the status of literary criticism from an artistic impression into a solid science. The present paper deals with his contributions to the development of determinism and materialism into a personal model of interpreting literature. 2. Literary Criticism and Determinism in the Second Half of the 19th Century The second half of the 19th century in the European culture is characterized by an extraordinary development of science and technique, which has an enormous impact on arts and, implicitly, on literature.

    AURA COMĂNESCU1 THE IMAGE OF THE JEWS FROM MARAMUREŞ DURING THE INTERWAR PERIOD. AN ORAL HISTORY STUDY Abstract: The appearance of the Jews is a special characteristic that is most easily perceived, most obvious and least difficult to describe. It marks the passageway into a world that has its own rules, with roots that go back thousands of years and adaptations to the special conditions of the places and times in which the Jews have lived. Described according to two main coordinates, namely their physical characteristics (the colour of their eyes, hair and skin, or their build) and their costumes (their beard and hair styles, headdress, and garments), the appearance of the Jewish men, women and children differed during the interwar period from that of the Christian majority, including Romanians, Hungarians, Ukrainians, or Scepusian Saxons. Based on the collective memory, the bibliography and the archives or electronic sources, we have outlined this thin outer layer in the vast domain concerning the image of the Jews from Maramureş. In this study we have attempted to shed light on a few quandaries and to render, as accurately as possible, aspects of lived history, of a bygone world in which the Jews played a significant role and were visible especially because their outstanding appearance. Keywords: Jews, Maramureş, the interwar period, oral history, imagology. This oral history research - which aimed to outline the image of the Jews from Maramureş in the collective memory and was carried out between 2005 and 2012, when it was completed as a PhD Thesis coordinated by Prof. Dr. Doru Radosav from the Faculty of History and Philosophy, Babeş-Bolyai University - is based on the testimonies of 71 people, both Jews and Christians (Romanians, Hungarians, Ukrainians), who were born between 1919 and 1970.

A positive answer to this question could alter our general understanding of the pre-communist intellectual heritage of Romania. As for Lovinescu, his disciples in the field of literary criticism were already numerous at the end of the pre-communist period,1 and they did not avoid to pay homage to the person who had waged, from the first decade of the twentieth century up to the 1940s, long intellectual wars against nostalgic traditionalism, and who most energetically claimed a literature with “urban” overtones and a “modernist” orientation, resonating with – and openly displaying its inspiration from – the most novel European trends of artistic experimentation.

    Pamfil Şeicaru. Author and literary character (Summary of the doctoral thesis) Supervising professor: Prof. univ. dr. Ionel Funeriu Candidate: Ando Andrei The myth of greatly talented journalist, but also of blackmailer and immoral person created around Pamfil Șeicaru an unwanted crust which covered entirely his qualities and important contribution to the Romanian literature. The drama chronicles, the plays and novels, the setting up of the supplement Curentul literar (Literary trend), where young writers had been promoted, his activity as literary criticist, the literary portraits (real micro-novels) were put in shade by the harsh indictments written as editor and journal director by one of the most gifted Romanian pamphleteers of all times. It is the biographers‟, detractors‟ fault, the fault of all those who analyzed from a unilateral perspective, of bad will or ignorance, the meaning of the journalist‟s activity and the structure of his works. Only recently, the literary size of Seicaru‟s works was explored, fragmentary, roughly, in studies and media papers. We intend to search the universe of the Seicaru‟s pamphlets from a perspective not used until now – themes, stylist, contextual. Another objective of the thesis is the novel research of Pamfil Șeicaru‟s literary profile, which we identified as main character in 14 literary works. Argument Far from idealizing his image, this paper intends to carry on a lucid, objective analysis, based upon a vast documentation, without ideological views on Seicaru‟s personality and works. We have started in this adventure of knowledge, we have started from the premise of the recovery of the literate size, less known for that that remained nevertheless in the first plan of the intellectual life as gifted journalist.

    Mîna care scrie La Biblioteca Județeană George Coșbuc din Bistrița, părintele Ioan Pintea, director, a avut inspirația – doar e poet – să inițieze o colecție de manuscrise ale unor scriitori de azi, achiziționate pentru bibliotecă prin donație. Motivațiile acestui gest pot fi mai multe, dar, sigur, directorul bibliotecii bistrițene este un mare iubitor de cărți, în sensul direct al cuvîntului. Inițiativa sa, binevenită, poate fi socotită și neașteptată, chiar ciudată. Biblioteca județeană este o instituție menită să servească și să încurajeze lectura cărților, nu să se specializeze în cercetarea arhivelor. Are și un fond documentar constituit din carte veche, dar e departe de a încuraja cercetarea de arhivă. Asta în condițiile în care lectura în sine – se zice – o duce destul de greu și îți trebuie o mare mobilitate a managementului ca să atragi omenii spre sala de lectură, mai ales pe cei tineri. La ora actuală, în lume există destule disfuncții în valorificarea fondurilor documentare. Interesul scade constant față de o asemenea activitate, lipsesc specialiștii, fondurile pentru achiziții și cercetare. Cercetarea documentelor (vechi) cere și ea o pregătire academică, iar tinerii studioși se îndreptă spre profesii mai tentante, hotărîți să cucerească mapamondul și nu sălița uneori prea umbroasă a unei biblioteci. Fondurile private sunt greu absorbite în fondurile publice ale arhivelor de stat sau biblioteci. E nevoie de spațiu în plus, de creșterea organigramei, într-o perioadă cînd la modă sunt reducerile de personal. Și nu doar la noi. Ce argumente ai să aperi o (importantă) meserie de arhivar? Ce fascinație mai trezește rolul și specificul unui asemenea post? Apare o altă problemă de fond, care schimbă viziunile: raportul dintre cartea „printată” și cartea electronică.
