Kaupthing Säljer Huvuddelen Av Sitt Innehav I Stodir Pressmeddelande Reykjavik, 5 december 2002 Kaupthing säljer huvuddelen av sitt innehav i Stodir Kaupthing Bank har tecknat avtal om att sälja 20% av aktierna i fastighetsbolaget Stodir till Baugur Group hf. Försäljningspriset är 1,4 miljarder isländska kronor, vilket motsvarar ca 145 miljoner svenska kronor. Kaupthing Bank blev ägare till 29,6% av kapitalet i det isländska fastighetsbolaget Stodir när det gick samman med Thyrping hf sommaren 2002. Samtidigt erhöll Kaupthing en köpoption på ytterligare 11,8% av det sammanslagna bolaget. Kaupthing säljer nu 20% av kapitalet i företaget, och får en säljoption som löper två år på resterande innehav, till detaljhandelsgruppen Baugur Group. Fastighetsbolaget Stodir var Kaupthing Banks största innehav. Fastighetsbolaget Stodir är det överlägset största fastighetsbolaget på Island och dess största fastigheter är: Kringlan Shopping Mall, Hotel Loftleidir, Hotel Esja, Holtagardar, Spöngin, Höfdaborg Borgartún 21, merparten av stormarknadskedjan 10-11s anläggningar, Baugurs lager och huvudkontor, Kaupthings och SPRONs lokaler. Kaupthing Bank has signed an agreement on the sale of one fifth of the total share capital in Real Estate Company Stodir to Baugur Group hf. The sale price is ISK 1.4 billion. Kaupthing Bank became the owner of 29.6% of the share capital in Real Estate Company Stodir when it merged with Thyrping hf. last summer. At the same time the bank secured a call option on 11.8% of the share capital in the merged company. The bank is now selling 20% of the total share capital in the company and has secured a put option on the remaining share to Baugur Group hf. in two years’ time. Real Estate Company Stodir was Kaupthing Bank’s largest unlisted holding. Real Estate Company Stodir is by far the largest real estate company in Iceland and its main properties are: Kringlan Shopping Mall, Hotel Loftleidir, Hotel Esja, Holtagardar, Spöngin, Höfdaborg Borgartún 21, the majority of the premises for the 10-11 supermarket chain, the warehouses and headquarters of Baugur, the premises of Kaupthing Bank and SPRON. Stodir’s properties cover a total of 170,000 square metres and the company’s total assets are valued at ISK 22 billion. At the same time, art projects are “nodal points” that provide entry and linkages between communities across the Atlantic. In this study, based on multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork in Canada and Iceland, I explore this argument by examining ethnic networking between Icelandic-Canadians and the Icelandic state, which adopted neoliberal economic policies between 1991 and 2008. The neoliberal restructuring in Iceland was manifested in the implementation of programs of privatization and deregulation. The tidal wave of free trade, market rationality and expansions across national borders required re-imagined, nationalized accounts of Icelandic identity and society and reconfigurations of the margins of the Icelandic state. Through programs and a range of technologies, discourses, and practices, the Icelandic state worked to create enterprising, empowered, and creative subjects appropriate to the neoliberal project.

China quotas The defining moment for apparel sourcing came on 31 December 2004, when quotas between member countries of the World Trade Organization ( WTO ) were lifted. The measure was aimed at levelling the playing field for supplier countries, but a rapid drop in prices meant the EU and US dramatically increased their clothing imports from China. Faced with a surge in shipments from China, both the US and EU lost no time in making significant use of the textile special safeguard provision built into China's WTO accession agreement. Financial highlights • Net loss after tax of ISK 63.2 billion (EUR 694.5 million) in Q4 and ISK 67.3 billion (EUR 738.5 million) in 2007, reflecting a significant decrease in market value of FL Group’s listed assets. All of FL Group’s listed holdings are marked to market. • Total assets increased to ISK 422.3 billion at the end of Q4 from ISK 262.9 billion at the end of 2006, representing a 60.7% increase. Tryggingamidstodin was fully consolidated by the end of the year. • Total shareholders equity was ISK 155.8 billion at the end of the quarter, an increase of ISK 13.2 billion from the end of 2006.     26 May 2009 Summary of Government Interventions in Financial Markets Iceland Overview The Icelandic economy collapsed in the wake of the global financial meltdown. All four of its largest banks have now been nationalised and a USD 10bn relief package has been put together by the International Monetary Fund (“IMF”) in conjunction with several European countries in an effort to rescue the State’s economy. In March 2009, there have been a number of reports indicating that Iceland may be put on a fast track to join the European Union in order to rescue the State from its financial collapse. This comes amid rising expectations that Iceland, which is already a member of the European Free Trade Association, will apply for full EU membership within months. EU membership, among other things, could allow Iceland to swap its hard-hit currency for the Euro. State guarantees On 7 October 2008, Iceland’s three main commercial banks, Kaupthing, Glitnir and Landsbanki, were nationalised. This was followed by the nationalisation of the investment bank Straumur-Burdaras on 9 March 2009. The Icelandic Financial Supervisory Authority (FME) took control of all four banks, guaranteeing all domestic deposits, pursuant to the Act on Depositors’ and Investors’ Guarantee Fund. Since then, a receivership committee has been appointed by the FME to all four banks, which has assumed the role of the board of directors to ensure continued operations. On 21 October 2008, the Central Bank of Iceland, Sedlabanki, announced that it would guarantee all payments which were routed through the Central Bank of Iceland would reach the account of the ultimate beneficiary.
