Knot Symbolism
Witch's Knot Posted by Silver Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 5:28 PM http://nordicwiccan.blogspot.nl/2014/01/witchs-knot.html There are many different types of magic knots, all of which have their own uses and their own history. In Pagan Roman times, couples would tie a knot while make solemn vows to each other and their gods during their wedding ceremony, which is where we get the phrase 'tying the knot'. The Witch's Knot, also known as the Witch's Charm or Magic Knot, is comprised of four interlocking vesica piscis-shapes. The knot can also be found with a central circle. The vesica piscis is a shape that is the intersection of two circles with the same radius, intersecting in such a way that the center of each circle lies on the perimeter of the other. The name literally means the "bladder of a fish" in Latin. The shape is also called mandorla (almond in Italian). The pointed oval sign, the vesica piscis, has also been called the Vessel of the Fish. "Fish" and "womb" were synonymous terms in ancient Greek delphos. Its link to fertility, birth, feminine sexuality and the natural force of women was acknowledged also by the Celts, as well as pagan cultures throughout northern Europe. The Great Goddess was portrayed elsewhere with pendulous breasts, accentuated buttocks and a conspicuous vaginal orifice, the upright vesica piscis. Christians later adapted the symbol as their own for Ichthys, fish. A circle is a simple shape of geometry that is the set of all points in a plane that are at a given distance from a given point, the centre. -
The Path of the Witch Booklet 1
The path of the Witch booklet 1 The path of the Witch Book of Shadows writings The path of the Witch booklet 2 Foreword My Book of Shadows I put this general booklet together for I know that one has to sit hours working on the internet or spend time reading through plenty of books to get information. So from the groups I belong to I gathered some information I deemed important and created this booklet to help the one who is new to the traditions of the Witch. Please note that I have not added any spells in this booklet for that is a personal aspect which you will develop on your own. Note that this booklet is just a summary and not a complete guide to Witchcraft. Use this booklet only as a basic place or stepping stone from which to grow. If you want to go deeper into every aspect of this path I advise you to buy the books I mention at the end of the booklet in the reading list. These books are complete in every aspect. You can also enlist in the following two schools, or any other school, which will help you on your path: www.witchschool.com and do the Correllian degree courses www.magickaschool.com and do the Progressive Witchcraft degree courses Please note this booklet is an algamation of information extracts from a variety of internet sites and groups, and some from books I read. I do not take credit for the written words (Except Method 6 of circle casting) herein as all the knowledge about the path was already written and I felt that written works do not need a change in wording or otherwise – the message are already in the words written. -

Samhain 2015
Pooka's Page for Grownups With our last issue, Liliane Grenier who creates the marvelous coloring pages for you was also on the verge of producing her latest creation - a new baby! Wee Simon has been born and now Liliane is taking some well- deserved time off with this totally adorable new member of her family. So, we hope you'll understand why her page from last year is a repeat. We think you'll enjoy coloring it all over again. But, just in case, Carolina Gonzalez, who's done some of our favorite coloring pages in the past, happened stepped forward with a new one for this issue. Just as in our last issue, when Christine was unable to do her Rune column and so many of our Team suddenly appeared with rune articles of their own, sometimes it seems magical the way things work out. Thanks, Carolina. Your intuitive timing was, as always, perfect! And, speaking of help, Carmen had plenty when creating her Ritual page for this issue. Her young nieces, Gina and Catie, ages 10 and 8 respectively, were visiting and very excited to take part. In fact, they actually wrote the invocations themselves! Afterwards, they were heard explaining to another aunt that " Samhain is another name for Halloween and it is not just about candy and masks; it’s about sweet memories of people and pets you loved." Truer words were never spoken... Pooka, the Team and I all join in wishing you a magical Samhain filled with both treats and sweet memories. Lora Also known as: Halloween, All Hallow’s Eve, Shadow Fest, Night of Remembering Samhain (pronounced “Sowain” or “Sowhen”) means the “end of summer” and harkens back to the days of the ancient Celts when the year was divided in two parts – the warm half, or “summer”. -
