THE SECRET CIRCLE: BOOK OF SHADOWS Note* To avoid confusion please remember that all of the information found here is from L.J. Smith’s SECRET CIRCLE Trilogy: The Initiation, The Captive and The Power books, not the CW’s TV show. New Salem Town Facts In 1693 a year after the Salem Witch Trials ended the real witches left and moved to an island in New England. These original families founded the Town of New Salem. The name Salem was common in Colonial times and comes from the name Jerusalem. In the 300 years since settling in New Salem the original families intermingled to keep their blood pure. Today’s coven consists of the direct decedents of the original families. The human outsiders living in New Salem are descended from the original families hired help, or from drifters that came to the island and were allowed to settle there. The houses on Crowhaven Road belonged to the original coven. The witches of New Salem still occupy the houses today. The homes on Crowhaven Road are mostly in poor condition due to their age with a few exceptions. The current living arrangements are as follows: Number 1 – Diana Number 2 – Deborah & Nick Number 3 – Vacant Number 4 – Melanie Number 5 – Laurel Number 6 – Faye Number 7 – Vacant Number 8 – Doug, Chris & Kori Number 9 – Adam Number 10 – Suzan Number 11 – Sean Number 12 – Cassie Number 13 – Only the foundation remains. DIVINATION SYSTEMS Written by Nicole Yalsovac Additional sections contributed by Sean Michael Smith and Christine Breese, D.D. Ph.D. Introduction Nichole Yalsovac Prophetic revelation, or Divination, dates back to the earliest known times of human existence. The oldest of all Chinese texts, the I Ching, is a divination system older than recorded history. James Legge says in his translation of I Ching: Book Of Changes (1996), “The desire to seek answers and to predict the future is as old as civilization itself.” Mankind has always had a desire to know what the future holds. Evidence shows that methods of divination, also known as fortune telling, were used by the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Babylonians and the Sumerians (who resided in what is now Iraq) as early as six‐thousand years ago. Divination was originally a device of royalty and has often been an essential part of religion and medicine. Significant leaders and royalty often employed priests, doctors, soothsayers and astrologers as advisers and consultants on what the future held. Every civilization has held a belief in at least some type of divination. The point of divination in the ancient world was to ascertain the will of the gods. In fact, divination is so called because it is assumed to be a gift of the divine, a gift from the gods. This gift of obtaining knowledge of the unknown uses a wide range of tools and an enormous variety of techniques, as we will see in this course. No matter which method is used, the most imperative aspect is the interpretation and presentation of what is seen. -
The Sea Witch and the Fisherman's Wife Sometime
The Sea Witch and the Fisherman’s Wife Sometime in the gloom of the late nineteenth century, a town smokes between a black ocean and a sickly sky. Long ago in this forgotten place, a woman falls. * The fisherman's wife couldn't sleep and decided to amble up and down the seafront in the hope that dreams might find her. She was a feather of bones for her height with unusually bright red hair and a limp. She preferred the limp. For a while, the night seemed just like any other until she saw a naked woman on the beach. The stranger was pacing in the shallows with the moon strung above her head. She was fat, with large breasts and dimpled skin running up the backs of her thighs. The woman moved quickly and with violent plunges. The fisherman’s wife tightened her shawl and stepped onto the sand. But she retreated, for the woman bucked her head and howled. The sound was low and raspy, like a borrowed voice from a wild thing. Her belly bounced with every breath while her hair dangled like black seaweed. When the moon peaked between the rolling clouds, its light softened her freakishness. As if her skin was lined with silver velvet. An unexpected flush of shame overcame the fisherman's wife. She needed to go back to her husband. She would never tell him about the madwoman or the whore or whatever she may be. She would be her first secret. A small nod signified her resolve. Despite her resistance being slight, it was a stand, nonetheless. -

MAGICAL AMULETS in Thai Culture
MAGICAL AMULETS In Thai culture By Chris Jones of Thai-amulets.com There are four types of magical amulets in Thai culture. The term to describe these amulets as a whole is khawng-khlang, which may be translated as 'sacred, potent objects.' The first type is the khruang-rang, which means material substances transformed into stone or copper. These amulets will protect people if they are held in the mouth or on the body. They include khot, which are stones found in nature such as stone eggs or meteoric ores and various types of seeds found in jack-fruit and tamarind plants. These amulets are used mostly by poor people, since they depend upon being found freely rather than having to be bought. The second type is the phra-khruang, which are small statues or figurines of the Buddha which also protect the person or, if larger, a household. They may be cast from a mould or else be in the form of a votive tablet. These may be used to complete a vow – i.e. to thank the Buddha for a blessing – or else as a talisman carried around the neck. The third type is the khruang-pluk-sek. Pluk-sek means 'to arouse the potency of a person or object by means of a spell or incantation' so a khruang-pluk-sek is a more powerful form of amulet. Most of the spells used are incantations based on ancient Sanskrit verses – Sanskrit is known as Pali in Thailand. When the spells call for being written down, the Khmer (Cambodian) alphabet is used rather than Thai which is not considered to be suitable for magic.Khmer characters are believed to have runic qualities. -

A Short Course in Scrying
A Short Course in Scrying Benjamin Rowe copyright 1997, 1998 Introduction This paper was written in response to requests by participants of the “enochian-l” and “Praxis” internet discussion groups; it first appeared as a series of posts on those groups in early 1997. The current version has been slightly rewritten to enhance the clarity of the presentation, and to include a small amount of additional material. The techniques described herein are adaptations of techniques I learned from two sources. The first of these is Mr. Brian D., who taught me the basic method many years ago. The second is Mr. Paul Solomon and his group, the Fellowship of the Inner Light, who had transformed that method into the foundation of their system of spiritual work. Special thanks also to the “secret chiefs” of the Fellowship, for their direct and effective contribution to my work at a critical point. Some debts can never be repaid; the best that can be done is to pass on what was given. ïL Chapter 1. Preliminary Considerations To begin, the reader should understand that scrying is as much a learned skill as is reading or ice-skating. Persistent practice is necessary to teach the nervous system how to do it, even where the person has some innate talent. And as with other learned skills, there is a learning curve. At first there will be a long period when you don't seem to be making any significant progress. Then things will suddenly fall together and your practice will improve markedly in a short period, before leveling off again at something close to your highest level of skill.
