The village is famous for Barnsley House which is now a hotel together with its famous gardens originally designed by the late Rosemary Verey. Cirencester is an historic Roman town which became an important centre for the wool trade in medieval times. Today it is a thriving market town. Shopping in Cirencester is highly regarded, off the main streets there are many interesting back lanes with specialist shops, particularly Black Jack Street. More extensive shopping and cultural facilities are provided at Cheltenham, Oxford and Swindon all of which are within easy reach. Barnsley is well served by good access to the A417/A419 at Cirencester which provides excellent links to the M4 and M5 motorways. Kemble and Swindon stations provide regular inter-city train links to London Paddington. We’re working on how to reduce the risk of sewer flooding, pollution, blockages and restricted use of toilets and bathrooms in the Ampney St Peter area. For us, it’s a priority. We’ll continue to work with our customers and other stakeholders, such as the Parish Councils, Cotswold District Council, Gloucestershire County Council and private land owners, to take action and make drainage improvements as quickly as possible.
