To have called it the survival and transmission of ancient literature would have been pretentious, but not wholly untruthful. Manuscripts, we all know, are the chief means by which the records and imaginings of twenty centuries have been preserved. It is my purpose to tell where manuscripts were made, and how and in what centres they have been collected, and, incidentally, to suggest some helps for tracing out their history. Naturally the few pages into which the story has to be packed will not give room for any one episode to be treated exhaustively. Enough if I succeed in rousing curiosity and setting some student to work in a field in which and immense amount still remains to be discovered.     GRANHOLM GENEALOGY BRITISH ROYAL ANCESTRY, BOOK 5 Kings of Anglo-Saxony INTRODUCTION The British ancestry is very much a patchwork of various beginnings. Until King Alfred the Great established England various Kings ruled separate parts. In most cases the initial ruler came from the mainland. That time of the history is shrouded in myths, which turn into legends and subsequent into history. Alfred the Great (849-901) was a very learned man and studied all available past history and especially biblical information. He came up with the concept that he was the 72nd generation descendant of Adam and Eve. Moreover he was a 17th generation descendant of Woden (Odin). Proponents of one theory claim that he was the descendant of Noah’s son Sem (Shem) because he claimed to descend from Sceaf, a marooned man who came to Britain on a boat after a flood. See the Biblical Ancestry and Early Mythology Ancestry books). The book British Mythical Royal Ancestry from King Brutus shows the mythical kings including Shakespeare’s King Lair. The lineages are from a common ancestor, Priam King of Troy. His one daughter Troana leads to us via Sceaf, the descendants from his other daughter Creusa lead to the British linage. No attempt has been made to connect these rulers with the historical ones. Before Alfred the Great formed a unified England several Royal Houses ruled the various parts. Not all of them have any clear lineages to the present times, i.e. our ancestors, but some do. I have collected information which show these. These include British Royal Ancestry Book 1, Legendary Kings from Brutus of Troy to including Shakespeare’s King Leir.

Adelhart transfers his Estate at Ufhova (Leutkirch), excepting one Parcel & 20 acres of Ploughlands, to the Abbey of St. Gall. Lauben 15th May A. D. 820. (Original in the Archives of St. Gall Abbey). In the Name of God, I Adelhart for the Salvation of my Soul in the Eternal Judgement do transfer and demise with sound mind to the Abbey of St. Gall, all of that my Estate which I at present rightfully possess at the place called Ufhova in the Nibelgau, and everything comprised therein excepting one Parcel and 20 Acres of Ploughlands, and therewith the Fields, Meadows, Paths, Ways, Ponds, Streams, Woods, cultivated and uncultivated, removable and irremovable, and all which I possess in the said Estate, to the said Abbey. Albeit under such conditions that I shall be able to reserve certain Revenue, that is one half of the total Produce yielded annually by the Estate, to be paid together with all other Servitudes which I owe, to the King. Convinced Christians, in order to sacrifice themselves to God, became monks. In Italy and other remote places or at important traffic roads, building of monasteries for religious, educating and social needs was started, services and schools were organized, accommodation for travellers provided. Without applying concrete, a homogeneous planning monumental monastery churches with massive walls, restrained décor, wooden ceilings, semi cylindrical ridge or altarpiece (Latin: presbyterium) at the building eastern end were built. In churches, rooms with small windows were dark and enigmatic. Due to the impact of relics, the dead and martyrs’ commemoration cult and ideology, basilicas had more extended planning: at the nave’s eastern end a podium for the altar was made. In walls a semicircle planning chancel’s niche or apse and windows were built. In order to organize ritual processions, chapels for extra altars arranged in the cross-nave or transept. The entrance into the apse joined both side-naves and surrounded by the chancel. The building’s plan obtained a shape of a Latin cross. Symbolism was not the determinant factor, but rather the functionality of room. The transept, which earlier had been considered as underlying, became more important than the nave, which since the 5th century searches for fireproof cover formation and new planning and vault solutions were necessary.

Armi focuses on buildings in southern France, northern Italy, Catalonia, and Switzerland, the regions where Ro- manesque architecture first appeared around A.D. 1000. He integrates the study of medieval structure with an understanding of construc- tion, decoration, and articulation in an effort to determine the ori- gins and originality of medieval architecture and the formation of the High Romanesque style, especially in Burgundy, at sites such as Cluny III.
