PLACES INDEX The index lists all places— primarily camp names (and their alternate names), towns, and cities— but not names of or ga ni za tion/enterprise locations to be included in another index. The page numbers corresponding to each camp essay are in bold type, for example, “Babitz, 225– 226.” If that camp is mentioned elsewhere in the text, the index entry appears in normal type. In most cases, the name of each main camp appears repeatedly in each of that camp’s subcamp essays. Therefore, rather than list each individual page, the index entry for each main camp will include a range of pages, in bold type, that covers the main camp essay and all its subcamps, for example, “Vaivara, 1491– 1509.” Page numbers in italics refer to illustrations and their captions. “A1.” See Lengerich (“A1”) AL Henschel.
