There are very few Dieselised Scimitars being released and at the current time, this is the only one to be released & made available for civilian ownership. FV107 Scimitar is an armoured reconnaissance vehicle (sometimes classed as a light tank) used by the British Army, manufactured by Alvis in Coventry. It is very similar to the FV101 Scorpion but mounts a high velocity 30 mm L21 RARDEN cannon instead of a 76 mm gun. It was issued to Royal Armoured Corps, Armoured Regiments in the Reconnaissance role. Each Regiment had a Close Reconnaissance Squadron of 5 Troops of 8 FV107 Scimitar. The chassis and suspension of the Scimitar are shared with all other members of the CVRT family. Initially the engine was the Jaguar J60 4.2-litre 6-cylinder petrol engine, the same as used by several Jaguar cars. This has now been replaced by a Cummins BTA 5.9 diesel engine in British Army Scimitars, under the CVR(T) Life Extension Program (LEP). The Scimitar lifespan has once again (as of middle 2009) been extended to accommodate the shift in timeframe with the FRES (Future Rapid Effect System) program which would have seen new armoured vehicles introduced which would have replaced the CVR(T) range of vehicles. With new modifications, air filtration units and gearbox upgrades (late 2009) as well as hull alterations (late 2009) It features: Engine: Cummins BTA 5.9lt Turbo diesel engine  Engine: power 195 hp  David Brown TN15d Epicyclic Semi-Automatic Gearbox with Neutral turn capability. The smoke dischargers will be removed prior to release of the vehicle. The turret azimuth gear has been removed & is not with the vehicle, and some sights & internal turret fitments are removed. • BAOR July 1989
BAOR ORDER OF BATTLE JULY 1989 “But Pardon, and Gentles all, The flat unraised spirits that have dared On this unworthy scaffold to bring forth So great an object….” Chorus, Henry V Act 1, Prologue This document began over five years ago from my frustration in the lack of information (or just plain wrong information) regarding the British Army of The Rhine in general and the late Cold War in particular. The more I researched through books, correspondence, and through direct questions to several “Old & Bold” on Regimental Association Forums, the more I became determined to fill in this gap. The results are what you see in the following pages. Before I begin a list of acknowledgements let me recognize my two co-authors, for this is as much their work as well as mine. “PM” was instrumental in sharing his research on the support Corps, did countless hours of legwork, and never failed to dig up information on some of my arcane questions. “John” made me “THINK” British Army! He has been an inspiration; a large part of this work would have not been possible without him. He added the maps and the color formation signs, as well as reformatting the whole document. I can only humbly say that these two gentlemen deserve any and all accolades as a result of this document. Though we have put much work into this document it is far from finished. Anyone who would like to contribute information of their time in BAOR or sources please contact me at [email protected]. The document will be updated with new information periodically.

  • OE Threat Assessment: United Arab Emirates (UAE)
DEC 2012 OE Threat Assessment: United Arab Emirates (UAE) TRADOC G-2 Intelligence Support Activity (TRISA) Complex Operational Environment and Threat Integration Directorate (CTID) [Type the author name] United States Army 6/1/2012 OE Threat Assessment: UAE Introduction The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is important because of its location near the Strait of Hormuz and its willingness to work with Western nations. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow body of water that separates the Persian Gulf from the Gulf of Oman, through which 20% of the world’s oil passes annually. The UAE, seven emirates that work under a federalist structure, also is an important hydrocarbon producer in its own right with the world’s seventh largest known oil reserves and the eleventh largest known natural gas fields. The UAE allows both the U.S. and France to operate military bases in the country from where the two countries support their military activities in Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Middle East. Political Seven former members of what was known in the 19th century as the Trucial or Pirate Coast currently comprise the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In order of size, the emirates are: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Umm al Qaywayn, Ajman, Al Fajayrah, and Ras al Khaymah. Ras al Khaymah joined the UAE in February 1972 after the other six states agreed on a federal constitution the year before. The UAE, with its capital in Abu Dhabi, is a federation with specified powers delegated to the central government and all other powers reserved to the emirates. Due to the prosperity of the country, most of its inhabitants are content with the current political system.

There has been a significant rise in the use of UGVs, artificial intelligence, virtual training and survivability equipment. Also, Active Protection Systems (APS) are being developed in lighter, cheaper and more accurate forms, supporting their case as a popular solution for the future battlespace. With all of the aforementioned in mind, the deployment of MBTs is still seen as a necessity by most in spite of climbing demand for light protected mobility. Ahead of International Armoured Vehicles 2019 conference, Defence IQ has compiled this market report to outline global key programmes and future requirements across all types of armoured vehicles. In January, Senior Representatives from the below countries will share their current requirements and challenges with the audience made up of over

  • Lack of Modern Technologies Hampers Iran's Defense Industry
Iranian tank, Karrar Wikimedia Commons/Tasnim News Agency Lack of modern technologies hampers Iran’s defense industry IranSource by Robert Czulda Iran Middle East Politics & Diplomacy Iran belongs to a relatively small group of states with an indigenous defense industry. It serves as an important element of Tehran’s official strategy of economic, military and industrial self-sufficiency. However, this defense industry is largely confined to the modernization of Cold War-era equipment. Iran’s industrial base was established under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and later reorganized and enlarged during the Islamic Republic. While, in many countries, defense companies are private, they are state-owned in Iran. Because of the Islamic Republic’s long pariah status, interaction with the outside world has been limited. Currently, Iran can produce various systems domestically and, to a limited extent, modernize and copy by reverse engineering some advanced sub-components, such as engines, electronics, and older types of avionics. The industry’s greatest achievement has been to repair and overhaul old equipment. The majority of Iran’s military hardware was acquired during the time of the shah or in the 1980s and 1990s. To keep these systems operational has been a truly impressive accomplishment. This includes antiques such as the F-14 twin-engine variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft, known as the Tomcat, and AH-1J assault helicopters—both purchased from the United States in the 1970s. Some spare parts are produced locally, while others are, reportedly, smuggled in from other countries. Due to logistics shortfalls, an important source of spare parts is cannibalization, which is a process of removing usable parts from other systems, such as tanks and aircraft, to replace broken parts on others instead of using parts from inventory.
