This document also records the results of user experiment led development of the OnBoarding functionality that led to the creation of the Unified Launcher. Target audience This document is for public dissemination and experts with good background knowledge of media delivery systems and who are knowledgeable of user requirements in the target scenario areas. Page 2 of (73) © 2-IMMERSE Consortium 2019 D3.4 Executive Summary The 2-IMMERSE project set out to develop an extensible, scalable and robust software platform that would support novel credible multi screen experiences based on dramatic content including Sport and the plays of Shakespeare. The new experiences enabled by the software platform merge content from broadcast and broadband sources and support new visualisations, viewpoints, data and replay facilities in addition to social network functionality such as chatting, commenting, polling etc. The challenge can be summarised as co-producing the right content for the right screen at the right time whilst allowing a satisfying mix of control between the curation of the producer and the level of control desired by the user. The reporting framework throughout the 2-IMMERSE project is structured so that we can give methodical, iterative feedback. Therefore, WP3 deliverables outline ‘best practice’ for ux-design & testing strategy -what we have done, and what we want to do next in terms of design aspirations and capabilities. D3.1 reported on a group of small studies to inform and ground the overall UX design for the platform. For example, establishing synchronization parameters across devices. D3.2 reported on UX-design of the Theatre at Home service. For example, audience requirements gathering, and establishing basic screen layout design across devices. D3.3 described the user interaction design and experimentation work that informed the design of the MotoGP service experience, and specifically the subset of those features tested with connected audiences in private homes. It also reported on the design of the 2-IMMERSE Live Production Tools, used in the live-end-to-end trial, and the design of the SetUp and OnBoarding process. This document, D3.4, describes the design story behind the features necessary to enable the football based experiences. This includes the development of production tools that supported the live production of the multi-screen experience of the 2018 FA Cup final from Wembley. In addition it described the design story behind the development of the Football FanZone experience and of the accompanying Football at Home experience. Both of which were demonstrated at IBC 2018 where 2-IMMERSE had an extensive presence across three stands including a large stand in the Future Zone as well as on the stands of both Chyron Hego and IRT as well as a talk at the technical conference. The description includes user interaction designs generic to all trial services, informed by the findings from the Theatre at Home and MotoGP trials; and already reported in D3.1, D3.2 and D3.3. Some of the design challenges and the resulting experiments in D3.4 will inform the future Theatre in Schools service trial, which will be documented in D3.5. The methods used in WP3 include conceptual design, trajectory mapping, surveys and lab experiments. This deliverable covers the work and the thinking that led to the development of the service trial.     THE BBC TRUST REPORT: ON-SCREEN AND ON-AIR TALENT INCLUDING AN INDEPENDENT ASSESSMENT AND REPORT BY OLIVER & OHLBAUM ASSOCIATES MAY 2008 2 BBC TRUST CONCLUSIONS The issue of talent costs The BBC Trust operates to protect the interests of licence fee payers who pay for and own the BBC. As part of this we seek to ensure quality and value for money for licence fee payers and to challenge BBC management to use everything at their disposal to deliver both. An area where this is particularly complex is the salaries paid to on-screen and on-air talent. During the course of 2006, press reports about presenters’ salaries aroused industry and public concern and led some people to question the BBC’s approach to the talent it employs. This debate was still live when the Trust was established as the BBC’s governing body in January 2007. It was and has remained a topic raised by the public with Trustees during our appearances on radio phone-ins and at public meetings in all parts of the UK. Against this background the Trust commissioned an independent review, conducted by Oliver and Ohlbaum Associates Ltd (O&O), to provide an in depth examination of the BBC’s use of on air and on screen talent. We posed O&O three specific questions: • How do the size and structure of the BBC's reward packages for talent compare with the rest of the market? • What has been the impact of the BBC's policy on the talent market, particularly in relation to cost inflation? • To what extent do the BBC's policy and processes in relation to investment in, and reward of, talent support value for money? We are publishing O&O’s report which seeks to answer these questions, the BBC management’s response to the points it raises and our own judgements informed by this evidence.

Introduction The BBC’s mission may be constant and enduring, but the business of broadcasting, like society itself, is always changing. We can report on a year in which our services enjoyed broad and popular appeal, and much critical success. Network production increased and has now begun to achieve the critical mass on which its long-term sustainability depends; we enhanced our newsgathering with the appointment of new area-based reporters; and our local television portfolio was refreshed with additional landmark programmes and commissions that were intended to reflect community life in all its different aspects and diversity. We introduced schedule changes at BBC Radio Foyle; extended the availability of the BBC’s national DAB network in Northern Ireland; secured some necessary capital investment to facilitate local television outside broadcasts into the future; and delivered a range of BBC recordings and events – showcasing talent and providing moments of celebration for the whole community. All of this activity has been taken forward in the midst of real financial constraints. Further savings are in prospect and will require difficult choices about priorities and a clear focus on how we can maximise the impact and value of our service offering.

II ABSTRACT Title: The Evolution of British Asian Radio in England: 1960 – 2004 Author: Gloria Khamkar This doctoral research examines the evolution of British Asian radio in England from 1960 to 2004. During the post-war period an Asian community started migrating to Britain to seek employment as a result of the industrial labour shortage. The BBC and the independent local radio sector tried to cater to this newly arrived migrant community through its radio output either in their mother tongue or in the English language. Later, this Asian community started its own separate radio services. This research project explores this transformation of Asian radio, from broadcasting radio programmes for the Asian community on existing radio stations, to the creation of independent local and community radio stations, catering to the Asian community exclusively in England. Existing research concentrates on the stereotype images and lack of representation of Asian community on the British radio; it lacks a comprehensive overview of the role of radio during the settlement period of the newly migrant Asian community.
