C’è un ingorgo di linfa, un addensamento di energia, una pressione dall’ignoto che la sostengono –e alla fine la abbattono”. Si tratta quindi di un lessico “poetico” per eccellenza, fatto di poche parole pesanti, ma spesso vaghe. Le occorrenze dei singoli termini infatti superano spesso i confini del campo semantico loro assegnato. In certi casi, piuttosto che addentrarsi nella scelta di nuovi vocaboli, il poeta costringe quelli da lui prediletti a “significare oltre”; per questo una torcia, una fiaccola, una fiamma possono essere “vaste”, perché l’aggettivo vaste ha un suo utilizzo ottimale nel verso di B.. In altri casi l’aggettivo lourd (pesante) viene usato anche per indicare la durevolezza di un ricordo (Et mes chers souvenirs sont plus lourds que des rocs! Cfr. Il Cigno). Certe occorrenze per esempio del termine monotone sono un po’ stupefacenti per estensività, in quanto si applicano a inverno, sole, neve, paesaggio, suono, universo. In altre parole ciò significa che il poeta possiede una sorta di scrigno “limitato” di vocaboli molto pregiati e accuratamente coltivati, che stanno insieme, si cercano, si rispondono, si ritrovano, alla fine. Ciò fa pensare ad un sistema soggiacente, quasi una rete lessicale che sottende la lingua poetica o forse una rete che imprigiona il cervello in una visione strutturata del mondo, da cui né il mondo né il poeta che lo descrive possono sfuggire. Si può scartare l’ipotesi che tale rete di vocaboli sia stata scelta con spirito parnassiano, in quanto quei termini non rispondono all’esigenza della buona fattura del verso, essendo il verso di B.

    Back Eurovision Song Contest: the Story by Nathaly Schwarm-Bronson In the mid-1950s the members of the European Broadcasting Union set up an ad hoc committee to investigate ways of rallying the countries of Europe round a light entertainment programme. At Monaco in late January 1955 this committee, chaired by Marcel Bezençon, Director General of Swiss Television, came up with the idea of creating a song contest, inspired by the very popular San Remo Festival. The idea was approved by the EBU General Assembly in Rome on 19 October 1955 and it was decided that the first “Eurovision Grand Prix” – so baptized, incidentally, by a British journalist – would take place in spring 1956 at Lugano, Switzerland. The next step was to put together a set of rules to be followed by the participants, of which there were originally ten, although only seven countries were eventually allowed to take part: Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland and West Germany. The other three countries – Austria, Denmark and United Kingdom – registered after the official deadline and were thus disqualified from entering the contest. The rules of the first contest allowed the participants to enter a maximum of two songs each, and it was strongly recommended that the songs be selected at a national final involving the participation of the public, to render the contest as popular as possible. There was no rule on language, each participant being entitled to choose the language in which they wished to perform. There was, however, a rule on the amount of time allowed: three and a half minutes was the maximum for each performance.

Tradition, Exoticism and Cosmopolitism in Italian Popular Music ( 1950s-1980s) Paolo Prato INTRODUCTION Richard Wolfe's ProfessionalFake Book (Columbia Pictures Pub­ lications, 1983), a compilation of over 1000 songs for the club pianist-Broadway's best, contemporary hits, folk songs, movie greats, classical themes, etc.-includes nine Italian pieces. There are Neapolitan evergreens (0 sole mio, Come Back to Sorrento and Malafemmena), one a love song (Santa Lucia), another a Sicilian folk song (Eh cumpari), another an opera highlight (La donna e mobile) and three "modern" songs (Volare, Ciao ciao bambina, Cara mia) from the 1950s. The list makes up an average package of what many people outside Italy consider to be Italian popular music. The songs are part of that "knowledge at hand" (Alfred Schutz) DIFFERENT/A 2 (Spring 1988) DIFFERENT/A 196 which is necessary to cope with what is strange within everyday life routines.
