The 2019 holiday season is here and that means it’s time to join Alaska and Horizon colleagues in supporting the eleventh annual Pack the Plane Food Drive.

When we started the holiday food drive in 2009, the goal was to fill an entire virtual plane. The idea took off, and stations around the country partnered with local food banks in subsequent years.

Today, Alaska and Horizon employees, retirees, contractors and partners support over 30 food banks throughout the communities we serve. Donations have nearly doubled in the past five years, from $53,000 in 2013 to almost $100,000 in 2018.

During last year’s Pack the Plane Food Drive, we packed the equivalent of 20.25 cargo planes. We raised more than $99,000 in financial donations and collected more than 9,400 pounds of canned goods for local food banks, providing almost a half-million meals. While it may sound like we're physically packing cargo planes, that isn't quite the case. We're virtually packing planes. The number of cargo planes we "pack" is based on overall space and weight load capacity of a 737-400 freighter aircraft.

The drive runs from November 1 – 30. This year’s goal is to pack 22 planes and raise $100,000 and 10,000 pounds of food.

Here’s how you can participate. Go to https://alaskagives.benevity.org/community Select your local area airport and the food bank they are supporting. All money raised will count towards the Pack the Plane goal. Thank you for giving back to the communities! Please email any questions to: [email protected]
