Press Release October 8, 2010 No. M 140/10 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, round 9 in Hockenheim Cliff-hanger finale with title fight decision Stuttgart. The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland remains riveting to the end. At the season finale on the Hockenheimring, 17 October, the gripping fight for the title goes down to the wire between Nicolas Armindo and Nick Tandy. Holding the aces, how- ever, is the points’ leader from France. With three victories to his credit he sits five points ahead of his British arch rival. This puts huge pressure on Nick Tandy (Konrad Motorsport). Even if the Carrera Cup rookie brings home his sixth win of the season, Nicolas Armindo (Hermes Attempto Racing) only needs to secure third place to take home the title of Germany’s fastest brand trophy series. For the 28-year-old Frenchman, this success would be the highlight after a long haul. In 2004 he joined the Carrera Cup, narrowly missing out on the championship title in his second season and finishing 2007 as one of the top contenders in third. “I would love to win the title,” he says. “I have many years of passionate moments behind me but there was also a lot of hard graft.” For Nick Tandy, 2010 was his first season in Germany’s well-established series which features the 450 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Despite turning heads last year with second place as a guest starter, he is still regarded as a rookie compared to the Frenchman’s experience. “Anything other than the championship trophy would be a huge disappointment,” says the 25-year-old Briton, who impressively demonstrated his skill this year by clinching second overall in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup. “I can’t wait for the final race and I’m going go for the title by winning.” Dr. Ing. h.c. Here as well, competition is tight. Two German teammates, Uwe Alzen and Robert Renauer, battle it out for position three in the overall rankings. Just two points separate the Herberth Motorsport PZ Olympiapark drivers, giving the squad a good chance to claim the team championship title: The crew is only three points shy of the leading Hermes Attempto Racing team. Considering he missed out two races, Sean Edwards in fifth can look back on a posi- tive season with his Deutsche Post by tolimit team. Sixth is occupied by Germany’s Philipp Wlazik. As Nicolas Armindo’s teammate at Hermes Attempto Racing, he has earned his points through consistent drives and six top ten results. Martin Ragginger in seventh longs for a good result to conclude the season. Driving for Schnabl Engi- neering, the Austrian made a promising start to the season with three third places, but has not managed a decent result since. In contrast, guest driver René Rast (Farnbacher Racing – PZN) heads to the final feeling relaxed. Having already taken home the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup title, the German has achieved his major goal this season. At the final, junior driver Ferdinand Stuck (Farnbacher Racing – PZN), who receives support as a “Porsche Motorsport Talent”, is again at the start. During his apprentice- ship year in the Carrera Cup, the youngest son of racing legend Hans-Joachim Stuck has improved from race to race and is looking forward to concluding the season with a good result. Television station Motorvision broadcasts the race live on 17 October from 10.15 hours (repeat 21.30 hours), with Sport1 showing highlights on race day at 21.00 hours and on 21 October at 22.30 hours in the Carrera Cup Magazin.
