FAST-CONNECT No 15 Highlights Students – ECPs – Senior Psychologists of Division 52 FLORENCE L. DENMARK, Ph.D. Dr. Denmark is an internationally recognized scholar, researcher, and policy maker. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in social psychology and has 6 honorary degrees. She is the Robert Scott Pace Distinguished Research Professor of Psychology at Pace University in NY and past president of the American Psychological Association (APA), Eastern Psychological Association (EPA), Psi Chi, and the International Council of Psychologists (ICP). She received the 2004 American Psychological Foundation Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement for Psychology in the Public Interest and is a fellow in several associations. Dr. Denmark's most significant research and extensive publications have emphasized women's leadership and leadership styles, the interaction of status and gender, ageing women in cross- cultural perspective, and the history of women in psychology. Denmark is currently NGO representative to the UN for the International Council of Psychologists (ICP) and the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP). She serves as co-chair of the UN NGO Family Committee, and is also on the Executive Committee of the UN NGO Committees on Ageing. Outside of work, Florence enjoys going to the theatre and the opera, and she belongs to a book club. She enjoys visiting her family in Virginia, Chicago, Seattle, and Canada. (Interviewed by Guler Boyraz Ph.D., Div52 ECP Member) Learn more GULER BOYRAZ, Ph.D. Since completing her doctoral training at the University of Memphis in 2008, Dr. Guler Boyraz has been conducting research on the topics of grief, loss, trauma, and cancer health disparities. She has had clinical experiences both in Turkey and in the United States and worked with diverse populations. Her recent research projects focus on trauma exposure and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in college students. More specifically, Dr. Boyraz and her research team are exploring the role of trauma exposure and PTSD in academic and emotional adjustment of college students, as well as the personal and cultural resources that protect trauma-exposed students against long-term adjustment difficulties. Currently, Dr. Boyraz is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at Louisiana Tech University. Outside of work, she enjoys listening to music, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. (Interviewed by Valeria Tarkhova, Div52 Student Member) Learn more VALERIA TARHOVA, M.A. Valeria Tarhova is attending Peoples' Friendship University of Russia in Moscow. She obtained her MA in psychology in 2012, and is now a post-graduate student, currently working on her Ph.D. thesis. She has completed a variety of different coursework in psychology including social psychology, clinical psychology, and educational psychology. Her major area of interest is problems of the attitude of host society towards international students. This includes areas of life values, cultural distance, and stereotypes. In the future, she aims to conduct further research and teach. Valeria enjoys reading and watching movies in her spare time. She is also trying to learn Japanese.
