Voghera/Malpensa - Varenna - La Valtellina You will be met by Jim at the Voghera train station between 11 and 11.30am, or alternatively at Milan’s Malpensa Airport between 12.30 and 1pm. We then head up to the area in the northern most part of Lombardy known as La Valtellina. Spectacularly located in a very picturesque valley, La Valtellina shares the border with Switzerland. Along the way guests will have a break in the charming town of Varenna, on the eastern shore of Lake Como. We then head to the Valtellina, where our cosy farmhouse awaits us! After our arrival, and once you have settled in, you have the opportunity to relax amidst the apple orchards and vineyards at our residence, the “Al Vecchio Torchio (The Old Wine Press)”. Tonight's dinner is at the “Al Vecchio Torchio”. Day Two - (“Il Trenino Rosso”, St Moritz, Livigno and Casalinga Cooking Class - “I Pizzocheri”) B D St Moritz, Switzerland – Livigno – Cooking Class Today is a very special day indeed. Don't forget your passports because early this morning you will depart from Tirano on the Trenino Rosso for a day out in the Swiss Alps! Enjoy the magnificent views of the mountains as the “little red train” meanders through a multitude of valleys and passes, and climbs up to a height of 2252 meters above sea level! It is truly one of the most spectacular train rides that exists today. Spend a couple of hours in St Moritz enjoying the lakeside ambience that this classic Swiss mountain resort has to offer, and we THE ITALIAN DELIGHTS Fine Food, then move on to the scenic Italian tax free town of Livigno, where you can buy Wine and Wonders Tour costs AUD sunglasses watches and a whole range of items at pretty good prices! In the mid morning we will be visiting the rustic town of Tirano. The morning is free here, but our suggestion would be to visit the lovely Palazzo Salis, with its highly decorated rooms and lovely garden. For our provided lunch we will be dining in a restaurant located in the old town. After lunch we will have a rest at Al Vecchio Torchio, before moving on to Sondrio, an elegant nearby provincial city. After this excursion we return to Al Vecchio Torchio for a free evening in preparation for our day out on Lake Como tomorrow. Day Four - (Lake Como Day) B D Lake Como – Menaggio, Bellagio and the Majesty of Italy’s most beautiful lake! (Private Lake Tour also available) Today we once again visit Lake Como, one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe and a place described by the poet Percy Shelley, as ”surpassing in beauty everything I have ever seen hitherto”. Amongst the famous people to grace the shores of the lake, both past and present, are George Clooney, Gianni Versace and Pliny the Younger in the first century AD! The day is spent in the Triangolo Lariano, or the central section of the lake in the towns of Menaggio and Bellagio, where, after your ferry crossing, you can enjoy a free lunch in one of the many eateries in Bellagio beside the Lake. Upon our return to Al Vecchio Torchio we enjoy our provided dinner together. The overriding aim of Eataly is to quash the myth that quality products need to be expensive and hence available to only a limited circle of privileged people. Eataly offers the best cottage-industry products at sustainable prices by dealing directly with the producers. Its main aim is to increase the awareness of consumers so that we can choose high quality products and pay particular attention to the source and processing of raw materials. Guests will have a free lunch at one of Eataly's 8 different restaurants before departing for an early afternoon visit to central Turin, where the majesty of Italy's first capital city (after its unification in 1861) awaits us!     Hannibal as spy chief Rose Mary Sheldon Hannibal’s abilities as a general are legendary.1 In fact, the Carthaginian’s activities in the Second Punic War made such a lasting impression on history that the conflict was branded ‘Hannibal’s War’. 2 Yet, in all the narratives of the war and in biographies of Hannibal, his role as spymaster has been generally ignored. 3 The Second Punic War offers numerous examples of the advantages good intelligence can give to a political and military leader, and Hannibal was both. Un programme de recherche, organisé et financé par l'Institut de Recherche sur les Eaux du Conseil National des Recherches et réalisé avec la collaboration des Instituts de Géologie de la région du Pô, a permis d'étudier les aspects hydrogéologiques de vastes unités territoriales de la Plaine. Sur la base d'environ 10 000 coupes stratigraphiques de puits d'eau ainsi que des données hydrauliques et chimiques de 21 000 autres puits il a été possible d'arriver à une evaluation approximative satisfaisante des conditions structurelles des aquifères, qui se trouvent presque exclusivement dans les dépôts continentaux du Quaternaire (dépôts rnorainiques, fluviatiles et fluvio-glaciaires). La Plaine du Pô est en effet un grand bassin subsidant et qui a été caractérisé au Quaternaire par une grande vitesse de dépôt (épaisseur moyenne de.800 m); il est limité au Nord et à l'Ouest par les Alpes, au Sud par les Apennins et à l'Est par la Mer Adriatique.

Aldo Castellari DATA 03.02.2021 Informazione ad uso interno INQUADRAMENTO GENERALE La Strada Statale 45 di Val Trebbia collega le province di Genova e di Piacenza, ovvero la costa del Mar Ligure con la Pianura Padana. Il tracciato, poco più di 130 km di cui quasi 74 km in Emilia Romagna, è stato interessato da interventi puntuali di allargamento della sede viaria e di rettificazione del tracciato che ne hanno notevolmente migliorato i livelli prestazionali. Oltre Gorreto (GE), ultimo comune attraversato in territorio ligure, il tracciato della SS 45 si insinua nella provincia di Piacenza. Il primo centro attraversato è Ottone (PC), superato il comune di Zerba (PC), la strada sale e raggiunge il comune di Cerignale (PC), dove, fino a Bobbio (PC), il tracciato risulta molto tortuoso, caratterizzato da curve di stretto raggio e da una scarsa larghezza della carreggiata. Nel territorio comunale di Cerignale (PC) la strada rasenta per alcuni chilometri il confine regionale con la Lombardia senza, però, attraversarlo; con alcuni saliscendi, caratterizzati dalla presenza di numerose gallerie e viadotti, si giunge al termine dell'alta valle della Trebbia. The Travo S. Andrea archeological site is located in the middle Val Trebbia, on a Late Pleistocene - Holocene fluvial terrace. The site, dating back to the Neolithic Age (V - IV millennium B.C.), was discovered in 1983 and it is excavated every year during the summer field season, since 1995. The settlement was about one hectare sized and the evidences, discovered over time in the site, testify the presence of a Neolithic village, which was composed of different functional areas. The huts are located in the eastern zone, near the Trebbia river, while a concentration of pits is present in the surrounding area; the north-west part of the site is occupied by more than twenty hearths.

Comprende l’alveo e le rive per un tratto di circa 11 Km (tra Bobbio e la confluenza con il torrente Perino) e ha un’ampiezza media di 250 metri. Per un breve tratto, a nord di Piancasale, si espande in destra idrografica per ricomprendere il rilievo serpentinitico di Monte Barberino (478 m). Nell’attraversamento della massa ofiolitica il fiume ha inciso una gola, con forte restringimento del fondovalle, nota come Orrido di Barberino. Più a valle l’alveo abbandona il suo andamento monocorsuale e si allarga considerevolmente assumendo la caratteristica morfologia a canali intrecciati. Linee generali di assetto idraulico e idrogeologico nel bacino del Trebbia 25.1 Caratteristiche generali 25.1.1 Inquadramento fisico e idrografico Il bacino del Trebbia ha una superficie complessiva di circa 1.070 km2 (1,5% della superficie complessiva del bacino del Po), di cui gran parte in ambito collinare-montano (86%). È situato in destra Po, tra i bacini del Tidone e dello Staffora a est, del Nure a ovest, dello Scrivia a sud-est, del Taro a sud-ovest e dello Sturla a sud. Il fiume Trebbia nasce dal monte S. Lazzaro nell’Appennino Ligure e confluisce nel Po, poco a ovest di Piacenza, dopo un percorso di circa 116 km. Lungo lo spartiacque a sud si hanno i monti Penna (1.735 m s.m.) e Maggiorasca (1.799 m s.m.), a est il monte Cavalmurone (1.670 m s.m.) e a ovest il monte Crociglia (1.578 m s.m.). Riceve numerosi affluenti fra cui il più importante è il torrente Aveto, lungo circa 30 km, con un elevato contributo idrico per l’alta piovosità sul suo bacino, di superficie circa pari a 257 km2. Altri affluenti di una certa importanza sono i torrenti Bobbio, Perino e Dorba. L’asta principale del Trebbia è suddivisibile in due tratti distinti per caratteristiche morfologiche, morfometriche e per comportamento idraulico: il tratto montano che si sviluppa dalla sorgente fino a Rivergaro, per una lunghezza di circa 95 km, e il tratto di pianura, con alveotipo tipicamente pluricursale, fino alla confluenza in Po.
