New S-style is not just for lowering the vehicle height, but also for stable ride quality. Select one type matches your needs. New S-Style series are furnished with additional equipment for improved corrosion resistance and ride quality. PNE Coating Cylinder and bracket parts were processed by HKS PNE Coating. PNE Coating's corrosion resistance is 5 times as much as the galvanizations. This coating can protect against rust, and its smooth surface requires less force than conventional damper. M-Shaft The "M-Shaft" which was designed for HKS HIPERMAX series' flagship model "M1" is also utilized. Enlarged cylinder diameter optimizes the oil pressure's characteristics and maintains the damping force even at subtle stroke range. More gentle ride quality can be provided after valve settings. 1 NEWNEW RELEASERELEASE NEW RELEASE 2 ■HIPERMAX S-Style X/L/C Full Kit Spring Rate Factory Setting of Vehicle Height Vehicle Model Engine Model Year Series Code No. Remarks N/mm(kgf/mm) FRONT REAR LEXUS IS350 IS250 GSE21, GSE20 2GR-FSE, 4GR-FSE 05/09~ S-Style X F=176(18)/R=157(16) -32(0~-71) -54(0~-122) 80120-AT206 Vehicle height is based on IS350. • Shaping the Bund: Public Spaces and Planning Process in the Shanghai International Settlement, 1843-1943
14th IPHS CONFERENCE 12-15 July 2010 Istanbul-TURKEY SHAPING THE BUND: PUBLIC SPACES AND PLANNING PROCESS IN THE SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL SETTLEMENT, 1843-1943 Yingchun LI, PhD. Student The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong [email protected] Wang WEIJEN, Associate Professor The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong ABSTRACT The Shanghai Bund is the classic symbol of Chinese economic strength and vigor in the early twentieth century. It was one of the most attractive waterfront public open spaces in Asia, and constituted the heart of communal life for both foreign and Chinese communities. This paper investigates the history of the public space of the Shanghai Bund,in terms of its shaping, representing and using. It unveils the four major social parties which had involved in shaping the street gridiron, the public buildings, the public parks, and the waterfront promenade. First to be the British colonial authority that had occasionally compromised to the demands of the Chinese to secure the trade profit. Second is the Chinese authority that had struggled for it conceptual and instrumental control over the foreign settlement. Third is the small group of powerful people called the “Bund Lot Holders” that had demanded the exclusive rights over the Bund. Finally is the ordinary Foreign Land Renters, with the Municipal Council has their Trustee, who had sought to make the Bund into an orderly public spaces for recreation amenity. The paper concludes that the landscape of the Shanghai Bund should not simply be considered as a symbol of “Western modernity”.It also reflected the complicated processes of conflict and compromise among various social parties, in which each party must be seen as participants in the same historical trajectory.

Full- sentence phonetic data from 21 Shanghainese speakers (born 1937-1975) were analyzed. Instead of a syllable tone language with left-dominant sandhi, Shanghainese is analyzed here as a lexical pitch accent language, with three levels of phrasing above the syllable. The lowest level of phrasing is the accentual phrase, which is the domain of the three contrastive pitch accents, H*, L*+H, and L*. These pitch accents are paired with one of two AP-final boundary tones: La/L:a or LHa. La/L:a varies freely between a single low target (La) and a low plateau (L:a), and co-occurs with H* and L*+H.
