With more than 1,500 years of cultivation, it is hard to argue against the Musique et Vin festival by holding an auction for special bottles donated by winemakers this belief. However, to The Wine Forum, Burgundy is more than just pure, scholarly wine. To us, whom we will be visiting and splitting the proceeds equally between these two worthy causes. Speaking with the region’s very top winemakers, they resolutely believe they are merely the current custodians of cherished plots, and that their role is to make the best wines possible at the Château du Clos de Vougeot on the final night of the 2014 Musique et Vin Festival. NV Champagnes Tasted in London: Jancis Robinson 09/07/19
NV champagnes tasted in London: Jancis Robinson 09/07/19 TASTING ARTICLES GROWERS' CHAMPAGNE Worshipping at the altar of non-vintage champagne... Tyson Stelzer is an Australian wine writer with a particular interest in screwcaps and champagne. It was the latter that lured him to a Hawksmoor church in London's Spitalfields recently to lay on the finest generic tasting of champagne the capital had seen for some time. To the outside observer it may seem strange that this event was organised from Australia and, apparently anyway, had nothing to do with the official generic champagne promotional body. Ours not to reason why. Taste Champagne was a great success for those of us who enjoy tasting champagne without too much of a crowd. I dare say Tyson might have wished for even more attendees at the trade tasting during the day and the public one in the evening. But it was a sufficient success for him and his team to be planning the next one already. Put 25 March 2020 in your diary... There were so many champagnes available to taste – 211 – that a strategy was needed. I decided to taste each exhibitor's standard non-vintage blend, which is after all the calling card of all producers and, according to the most accurate estimate I could get from champagne officials, represents 94.4% of all champagne produced. We may all fuss about the luxury-priced prestige cuvées, and I would like to point out that vintage champagne is probably the bargain category at the moment, but in reality, the champagne business is all about NV. -

New Stars of Burgundy Tasting
NEW STARS OF BURGUNDY A TASTING AT ROBERSON WINE THURSDAY JULY 17th 2008 NEW STARS OF BURGUNDY THE DOM AINES Domaine Roulot (Meursault): This is a domaine that has grown rapidly in stature over the past 20 years, although that is not to say that Roulot hasn’t long been considered to be one of Meursault’s very best domaines. Guy Roulot was the driving force behind the creation of the estate and married into the Coche family (of Coche-Dury fame), which brought him plenty of prime terroir.Today the domaine is run by his son Jean-Marc - undoubtedly one of Burgundy’s top white winemakers. Roulot is a domaine that believes in terroir, and they produce 7 cuvées from different vineyards around Meursault. Indeed, Guy was a pioneer in seperately bottling the village appellation climats known as ‘deuxième crus’, and the wine that we will taste tonight is one of the best examples of this – ‘Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir’. Domaine Leflaive (Puligny-Montrachet): Not many beacons of Burgundian winemaking shine brighter than Do- maine Leflaive – this estate is the doyen of Puligny-Montrachet, not to mention a leading pioneer and promoter of biodynamic viticulture. Today’s Leflaive is run by Anne-Claude Leflaive and Pierre Morey, who form a formidable team. Taking the mantle from Anne-Claude’s father Vincent Leflaive was always going to be a difficult task (he was one of Burgundy’s best loved figures), but the wines from this domaine have continued to improve over the last 15 years and they are undoubtedly befitting of an estate that owns vines in all of Puligny’s top climats. -

Oz Clarke: Finding balance in California Decanter Staff (http://www.decanter.com/author/Decanter%20Staff/) January 14, 2017 Oz Clarke writes about changes in California wine... TAGS: Highlights (http://www.decanter.com/tag/highlights/) News Home (http://www.decanter.com/tag/news-home/) California (http://www.decanter.com/wine/wine-regions/california/) wine and balance This article first appeared in Decanter magazine’s January issue. Subscribe here (https://subscription.decanter.com/subscriptions/decanter-subscriptions/). This ‘balance’ thing is going to run and run in California. We’ve had wine writer Jon Bonné and his book on The New California. And we’ve had sommelier Rajat Parr and Co with their ‘In Pursuit of Balance’ campaign, which was so successful it has now disbanded after its final tasting in November in San Francisco. Why this success? Because it touched a raw nerve. And these balance advocates weren’t the first ones either. Cathy Corison has been practising balance at her Napa winery for nearly 30 years. Jim Clendenen at Au Bon Climat has been talking this language since the 1980s and is a bit miffed that the new flag-wavers are claiming the balance idea is all theirs, when he’s been banging the drum for 35 years.
