  • Clarke/Copeland April 2012
Clarke/Copeland April 2012 Bass virtuoso STANLEY CLARKE and drummer extraordinaire STEWART COPELAND are uniting this summer to bring a unique eclectic mix of Jazz Fusion, Classical music and Rock to the European festival circuit. Of course, the performance will also include a hit or two from each of their personal careers. Joining them is a group of young but tested musicians including Alex Han on sax, Ruslan Sirota on keyboards and Brady Cohan on guitar. “I’m very excited about this tour,” says Clarke. “I feel that the wave of the future in live musical performances is unique and unusual pairings like Stewart and me. It’s going to be a positive experience for the audience as well as for us.” Good friends, this will certainly not be the first time Clarke and Copeland have performed together. Both were key members of the group Animal Logic along with Deborah Holland. Animal Logic released two self-titled albums in 1987 and 1991, which have become fusion cult favorites. STANLEY CLARKE, a 2011 and 2012 multi-Grammy Award winner, became the first bassist in history who could double on acoustic and electric bass with equal ferocity and the first bassist ever to headline tours, selling out shows worldwide. A veteran of over 40 albums, he won the 2011 Best Contemporary Jazz Album Grammy Award for his album The Stanley Clarke Band. Clarke co-founded the seminal fusion group Return to Forever with Chick Corea and Lenny White. This year Return to Forever won a Grammy Award and Latin Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Forever.

  • Stanley Clarke Currículum I Discografia

  • CLARKE/DUKE 4 "BRING IT" Tour
CLARKE/DUKE 4 "BRING IT" Tour (Note: They would like the 4 to be larger than the rest of the type in the name of the tour) Clarke teamed up with keyboardist George Duke in 1981 to form the Clarke/Duke Project. Together they scored a Top 20 pop hit with the single “Sweet Baby,” In 1981 George Duke and Stanley Clarke began their official collaboration together with the release of Clarke/Duke Project, which produced the top ten smash hit, “Sweet Baby.” In total they have recorded three albums. Over the course of their funk‐filled and genre‐smashing collaborations, Clarke and Duke have created performances full of fun, energy and exceptional musicianship with a big bottom and keyboard flights of fancy. More of the same fantastic musical roller‐coaster ride is on the way with their new CLARKE/DUKE 4 “BRING IT” Tour. It has been six years since they last toured together and both are looking forward to the CLARKE/DUKE 4 “BRING IT” Tour. Clarke remarks, “I’m looking forward to these performances, because the most fun I have touring is with George. We have a good time together. We’re both older and more experienced. Our repertoire is more all‐encompassing and much more diverse.” Duke adds, “Touring with Stanley is always a good thing, because he’s a nut. He’s the younger brother I never had. We each have different perspectives on music, but at the same time a lot of similarities. It’s the diversity of our backgrounds that makes it interesting.

We kicked it off with a magical might at the Albuquerque Museum on May 24 with the still-awe-inspiring Mavis Staples. What a spirit! What a voice! What a band! It all came together that night. Beautiful venue—indoors for the dinner and in the awesome amphitheater for the concert; a great turnout of more than 550 very happy folks; GREAT weather and a FULL MOON. What more can you ask for? And amazingly— thanks to all of you who pitched in, from attendees to sponsors, to the city, to art collectors and artists, to volunteers, staff and board and committee members—it was a fundraiser that actually raised some funds.... more than $15,000 (we in the non-profit arts world always joke about how much money we lose on our fundraisers). What a great way to kick off a celebration of 25 Outpost Years! So now, it’s on to the summer and our 18th annual Summer Thursday Jazz Nights; the Roost Creative Music Series; our jazz classes for kids and adults; and of course, the 8th Annual New Mexico Jazz Festival. We’re expecting great success with all of it.
