Page 1 Abbreviations used in this pattern ● Ch - chain ● Sc - single crochet ● Hdc - half double crochet ● Dc - double crochet ● St (s) - stitch (es) ● Inc - increase ( 2 hdc in the same st) ● Dec - decrease ( sc2tog - 2 single crochet worked together) Gauge ● 14 hdc = 10 cm (4") ● 10 rows = 10 cm (4") About the design This Pattern is available in 5 sizes, from Small to 2X Large and is written in US terms. It’s easy to fall in love with this Chocolate & Caramel Jacket. It’s fashionable and yet comfortable and warm at the same time. It’s made in only one piece (well the front panels are worked individually, but they are made by continuing the back panel.) All you have to know is how to increase and decrease and how to make a half double crochet. So, we will start from the bottom of the back panel and work only in half double crochet, increasing, until we get to the neck line. Then we will stop increasing to make the sleeves. The back panel is made with 2 colors using the Intarsia Crochet technique. After finishing the back panel, we will continue with the front panels and at the end we will fold it in half and sew the inner sides of the jacket. Page 2 About Intarsia Crochet Technique Intarsia Crochet (or knitting) is a great technique that allows us to use 2 or more colors in our crochet projects. For great results it’s important to use different skeins of yarn for each section of color. This way your project will look the same on the right and wrong side. The final measurements of the Chocolate and Caramel Jacket are listed in the diagram below: . Design by Catalina Ungureanu for Hobbii.com - Copyright © 2019 – All rights reserved. Page 3 Back Panel Foundation Chain ● S = 70 sts ● M = 84 sts ● L = 98 sts ● XL = 112 sts ● XXL = 126 sts Because we are working with 2 colors, we will use one skein of each color and divide the number of sts by 2. So, we will make half with Mocha and half with Camel. When changing the color, finish the last stitch of the first color with the second. Row 1 1 Hdc in each st to the end of the row. Ch 2 and turn. For size M repeat this row 2 more times (3 rows) For sizes L, XL, XXL repeat row 1, 3 more times (4 rows) The row number for sizes M, L, XL, XXL are from now on between brackets. Row 2 (4, 5, 5, 5) 1 inc in the first st (2 hdc in the first st), 1 hdc in each stitch to the last one, 1 inc in the last st. Ch 2 and turn. Page 4 Rows 3 - 40 (5 - 40, 6 - 40, 6 - 40, 6 - 40) Repeat row 2 (4, 5, 5, 5) After 40 rows you will have: ● S = 148 sts ● M = 158 ● L = 170 ● XL = 184 ● XXL = 198 Starting with the next row we will continue working straight without increasing: ● S = 11 rows ● M = 13 ● L = 14 ● XL = 15 ● XXL = 16 And the back panel is done. For example: I used Camel for the right half of the back, so for the right front panel I will use the color Mocha. Use 2 stitch markers to mark the neck line: ● S = 36 sts ● M = 38 sts ● L = 40 sts ● XL = 42 sts ● XXL = 44 sts Right Front Panel Row 1 1 hdc in each sts to the first stitch marker (make 1 hdc in the stitch marked too), ch 18 (19, 20, 21, 22), ch 2 and turn. Work 1 hdc in each st, including the extra chain sts for: ● S = 11 rows ● M = 13 rows ● L = 14 rows ● XL = 15 rows ● XXL = 16 rows Now, to obtain the same shape on the right side of the front panel as we have for the back side, we will start to decrease in the next row. The left edge of the front right panel will be straight, so we will only decrease on the right edge. We decrease by crocheting 2 single crochet together. We will work like this: ● S = 39 rows ● M = 37 rows ● L = 36 rows ● XL = 36 rows ● XXL = 36 rows Now we have the same width as we started and of course the same number of stitches. We will continue with straight rows, without decreasing: ● S = 1 row ● M = 3 rows ● L = 4 rows ● XL = 4 rows ● XXL = 4 rows And one front panel is done. We will repeat the pattern for the other panel. Left Front Panel This time we will use the second color (in my case camel) and we will start the first row like this: Row 1 Chain: ● S = 18 sts ● M = 19 sts ● L = 20 sts ● XL = 21 sts ● XXL = 22 sts Design by Catalina Ungureanu for Hobbii.com - Copyright © 2019 – All rights reserved. Page 7 Make the first hdc in the marked stitch and continue with 1 hdc in each stitch to the end of the row. Starting with the second row we will make the straight rows for the sleeves and then we will start decreasing on the left edge of the front panel, keeping the right edge straight. Work like this the same number of rows as you did for the other panel and then the bottom straight rows. The pattern for the left front panel is the same as for the right one, only that the extra chain sts are made at the beginning of the row and we are decreasing on the left side keeping the right side straight. After finishing the front panels, fold the piece in half and sew the inner sides of the jacket. If you want you can add a brim at the bottom, front sides, sleeves and collar. And that’s it, the Chocolate and Caramel Jacket is ready to be worn. Design by Catalina Ungureanu for Hobbii.com - Copyright © 2019 – All rights reserved.
