USB JACK The USB Jack is used to download or upload MIDI information. The USB Jack provides for a no hassle driver installation, just plug into your Mac or PC and the operating system finds and installs all necessary components and the Rhodes appears as a USB MIDI device. Windows XP, Vista or any Mac OS X is needed for this. USB MIDI information is bi-directional so you can download or upload patch information for quick patch advance during live performance. B. MIDI IN, OUT and THRU JACKS The MIDI In, Out and Thru jacks are wired in the standard configuration but in addition, MIDI can be mixed to both MIDI Out and USB, while data received from USB can be transmitted to MIDI Out. C. STERO HEADPHONE JACK Used to monitor your piano through most brands of stereo headphones, the level of the headphone jack is determined by the VOLUME control on the piano preamplifier. (You will not hear MIDI sounds from this jack.) D. EFFECTS LOOP 1. The EFFECTS RETURN jack is used when processing the raw signal of the piano through effects devises. 2. The EFFECTS SEND jack sends a signal from the piano to any high impedance effects device such as a stompbox, when used in conjunction with the EFFECTS RETURN. This jack may also be used to send a high impedance signal out of the piano uncolored by the piano preamplifier. E. STEREO UNBALANCED OUTPUTS Labeled Left and Right, these two audio outputs provide stereo unbalanced signals effected by the preamp, to the Rhodes Powered Speaker Platforms, as well as other types of stereo amplifiers. F. STEREO BALANCED XLR OUTPUTS These two outputs labeled Left and Right provide stereo balanced XLR outputs from the output of the piano preamplifier. These jacks can be used to send stereo signals to any device with XLR inputs such as mixing consoles. G. POWER INPUT JACK The Power Input jack is used to connect the RHODES POWER SUPPLY. The Rhodes Power Supply provides the voltages necessary to operate both the piano preamplifier and the MIDI system. Make sure the power supply plug is fully inserted into the Power Input Jack. The connector can only be inserted one way. Pay close attention to the pin arrangement on the connector to insure proper insertion. top DO NOT FORCE THE PLUG INTO THE POWER INPUT JACK CONNECTOR OR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR! RHODES ACTIVE PREAMP The Rhodes Active Preamp features state of the art electronics with FET input technology and ultra high quality, low noise components. Years in the making, the Active Series Preamp offers the musician a new level of tonal versatility never before heard from any previous Rhodes piano. A B1 B2 B3 B4 C1 C2 A. VOLUME CONTROL The Volume Control adjusts the level of signal coming from the output of the piano preamplifier. This signal appears at the unbalanced stereo and balanced stereo XLR jacks that are located on the side panel connector located on the left side of the piano. B. EQUALIZER SECTION The Equalizer Section consists of four controls: 1. LO CONTROL The Low Control allows the musician to boost or cut bass frequencies by + /- 15 db @ 100Hz. B2. MID CONTROL The Mid Control allows the musician to boost or cut midrange frequencies by + /- 15db as determined by the FREQ. Control. B3. FREQ CONTROL The Freq Control adjusts the frequency of the MID CONTROL. The frequency can be adjusted to operate from 100Hz to 8KHz. B4. HI CONTROL The Hi Control allows the musician to boost or cut treble frequencies by + /- 15db @ 10KHz. C. TREMOLO SECTION The Tremolo Section consists of two controls: C1. SP The SP Control adjusts the speed of the tremolo circuit. C2. INT The INT Control adjusts the intensity of the tremolo circuit. Pull this knob out to activate the tremolo. A blue light will flash behind the INT Control showing the rate of the tremolo. SUSTAIN PEDAL and ROD The Sustain Pedal is attached to the piano by inserting the bayonet fittings and adjustable push rod into the openings under the piano and at the top of the pedal housing. Turn the fitting clockwise until it locks into place. Only the RHODES POWER SUPPLY can be used in order for the piano preamplifier and MIDI to function. The IEC / AC Input connector on the power supply can be used with any AC input voltage from 100 VAC to 240 VAC. In case of emergency, if for any reason the power supply or the piano preamplifier does not function, a signal can be taken directly from the piano via the EFFECTS SEND jack. See section D. Please contact your local Rhodes dealer for a replacement power supply. H. ON / OFF SWITCH The On / Off switch is used to turn the piano preamplifier on or off. When switched on, the rocker switch will be in the down position. MIDI CONTROLS A B C D A. PITCH BEND and MODULATION WHEELS These controls allow you send pitch and modulation wheel messages to MIDI and USB. B. 2X20 CHARACTER LCD SCREEN The LCD Screen allows you to view all patch information and make adjustments quickly and easily. C. PUSH BUTTON ENCODER The Encoder Button sets parameters and adjustments. D. VOLUME CONTROL The Volume Control adjusts the volume of all USB & MIDI devices, totally independent of your Rhodes Piano volume. RHODES ACTIVE MIDI SYSTEM The Rhodes MIDI system allows you to control external equipment or send MIDI signals to your computer using USB. Additionally, it can serve as a USB MIDI interface if you are interfacing non-USB MIDI equipment. To control external equipment, like synthesizers or samplers, power up your Rhodes piano and connect the MIDI out jack of the piano to the MIDI IN of your device and/or connect your computer via USB. This is all it takes to make your new Rhodes Active/MIDI the most dynamic and expressive keyboard controller ever! Not to mention having the ability to mix these sounds digital sounds with the famous sound of the REAL Rhodes Mark 7 SPECIAL FEATURES 1. USER INTERFACE Use the 2x40 character LCD screen, dedicated Volume knob, and endless MIDI Data Encoder knob with push switch to control the MIDI and USB section of your piano. 2. EDITING: Pushing the MIDI Data encoder knob toggles between the selecting of parameter and editing of parameter value. This is indicated by a tiny arrow on the right side of the LCD as shown. If the arrow is on the upper line, turning the encoder will select the parameters. The lower line indicates that a parameter value can be changed. P1 1 zone channel < Z1 l 1 P1 l zone channel Z1 l 1 < 3. VOLUME The MIDI Volume knob controls the volume level of external MIDI and USB devices using standard MIDI controller messages. These messages will be sent on all channels and on all USB and MIDI Out ports simultaneously. 4. PATCH ORGANIZATION The MIDI system consists of 50 patches which control what which messages will be sent to MIDI and USB. Patches can be edited, renamed and stored. Each patch can have up to four zones to control different instruments on different channels. Each zone has its own MIDI channel, port and other parameters. This is especially useful during live- performance patch changing. 5. SELECTING A PATCH After powering up, patches 1 through 50 can be selected by the encoder. The patch number is shown in the lower line of the LCD. P1 l select Patch l Init Patch < 6. PATCH PARAMETERS Pushing the indicator to the top line allows you to access the patch parameters. These can all be altered when the indicator is on the lower line.
