Values • People come first • We are passionate hosts • Fabulous is the new normal • We lead boldly and bravely • We thrive together not alone • We value the wellbeing and safety of our people Queensland Performing Arts Centre Queensland Performing Arts Trust The Queensland Performing Arts Centre (Centre), QPAC is a statutory body. Its existence, functions and located within the Queensland Cultural Centre of powers are set out in the Queensland Performing Arts South Bank, Brisbane is managed by the Queensland Trust Act 1977 (the Act). Performing Arts Trust (QPAC). I will be a bit more factual than she has been. This bill will amend the Queensland Art Gallery Act 1987 to allow the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustees to establish a foundation committee, including board members and non-board members, to carry on the activities of the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation. The function of the foundation committee would be to raise funds to assist in the fulfilment of the board’s functions by, for example, encouraging gifts, donations, bequests and legacies of property for the benefit of the board; and managing and investing in property made available to the foundation committee by the board. I think it is worthwhile at this point to cover a bit of history in relation to the Queensland Art Gallery, which forms part of our world renowned Cultural Centre at South Bank, which was first opened in 1985. The Queensland Cultural Centre comprises not just the Queensland Art Gallery but also the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Queensland Museum, the State Library of Queensland and its newest addition, the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art—or GoMA, as it is called—which was added in 2006. These institutions collectively make up the cultural epicentre of Brisbane and Queensland as a whole. Members may or may not know that the Queensland Art Gallery is situated on the site of the old Cremorne Theatre, originally an open-air structure with seating for about 1,800 people.

    Memorandum of Understanding Widening Tertiary Participation in Queensland: 2016-2017 Universities in Queensland and the Queensland Department of Education and Training have, since 2009, collaborated on efforts to stimulate interest in tertiary study to improve the tertiary participation of people from low socioeconomic backgrounds (low SES) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders. This 2016- 2017 MOU builds on two previous MOUs endorsed in 2011 and 2012, and encodes the parties’ agreement to continue these collaborative efforts and build on the strengths of the Queensland Widening Tertiary Participation Consortium. Background The parties acknowledge that the collaborative approach undertaken by the Widening Tertiary Participation Consortium between 2011 and 2015 has been associated with: • expanding and strengthening partnerships across institutions and with schools, communities and other organisations; • minimising gaps and duplication across the State to maximise delivery and reach of high quality outreach and engagement activities; • emerging positive indications that in regions characterised by deep, long-term engagement with the program, interest in tertiary study is being stimulated; and • positioning Queensland as a leader in coordinated outreach partnerships between universities, schools and communities.     QPAC YEAR IN REVIEW 2013 QPAC YEAR IN REVIEW 2013 MINISTER’S MESSAGE Welcome to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s QPAC Year in Review 2013 QPAC has a reputation locally, nationally and increasingly internationally as a centre of excellence. It is the leading performing arts centre in Queensland and along with State Library of Queensland, Queensland Museum and Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, make up the outstanding Cultural Precinct on Brisbane’s South Bank. QPAC is a place for people to gather, enjoy performances, be entertained and engage with the arts. In 2012-13 QPAC welcomed over one million people to the Centre, presented more than 1200 performances across four theatres and outdoor venues, produced the fi rst Clancestry festival and held the second season in the prestigious QPAC International Series – the Bolshoi Ballet. Many of these visitors travelled from across Queensland and Australia to enjoy QPAC’s quality arts offer. Producing and presenting major events, international exclusives, specially created festivals and the best in local and national performing arts, QPAC is also making a growing contribution to the state’s cultural tourism market. I hope you enjoy this review of QPAC’s 2013 successes and I look forward to our leading performing arts centre providing us with an even bigger and better year in 2014. The Hon.
