    Collector cars; childhood dream or sound investment opportunity? -hedonic regression analysis of the collector car market- [The main question of this study is whether collector cars can be considered as a viable investment opportunity. In order to answer that question, first this study tries to identify the relevant variables that determine sale prices of collector cars at auctions. Second, it creates a price index on collector cars through hedonic regression analysis on data from 1,200 cars sold on auction between 1996 and 2011. This is especially evident in recent years. The 1996 “split” between the Indy Racing League (IRL; later, the IndyCar Series) and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART; later the Champ Car World Series) severely hurt the sport. Following the split there was a well-documented decline in fan interest from which the sport has not recovered. Less understood, however, is that under the Indy Racing League the Indianapolis 500, the premier event in open-wheeled racing in the United States, became more competitive. Ironically, while fan interest decreased in the Indy Racing League era, the quality of racing increased. The increased competition associated with the Indy Racing League is a historically significant development that bodes well for the future of the sport.

On March 9, 2014 the 19th annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance will honor the brilliance and creativity of Ugo Zagato and his heirs with a class of Zagato-bodied cars from the likes of Ferrari, Maserati, Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Hispano-Suiza, FIAT, Rolls-Royce, Lancia, Lamborghini, MG, Bentley, Porsche, Spyker and even British supercar builder Aston Martin, for whom Zagato created their masterpiece, the landmark DB4 GT Zagato. "The most beautiful car is the one that wins," said Enzo Ferrari. As leader of Alfa Romeo's racing department during the 1930s, Enzo Ferrari saw fleets of Alfa Romeo racers wearing Zagato's functional and beautiful coachwork win scores of legendary road races. Sons Elio and Gianni Zagato instantly grasped their father's elegant and simple philosophy; "When we design and build something functional, it is always beautiful." Ugo Zagato signed his work with justifiable pride. His "lightning Z" badge still rides on the flanks of many of the world's most exotic, desirable, successful, beautiful and fast cars. Zagato coachwork cloaked the first Formula 1 World Champions in 1950. They wore the winners' laurels in Enzo Ferrari's favorite race, the brutal and grueling Mille Miglia, where Zagato-bodied cars earned their global reputation from the very first "1000 miles" in 1927. It began in 1919 when founder Ugo Zagato applied aircraft construction techniques to the design and creation of automobile bodies.

Il est vrai aussi que je n’ai guère le loisir de m’occuper de mes véhicules. J’ai à peine le temps de les faire rouler régulièrement, mais ceci est une autre histoire… Pourquoi vous parler de mes soucis de collectionneur ? Pour, en fait, vous dire que, quelle que soit la façon de l’aborder, notre plaisir de posséder et de faire rouler nos véhicules est bien réel. Alors, si quelqu’un, pour un quelconque motif pseudo-écologique et franchement démagogique, s’avise de m’empêcher de vivre ma passion, il me trouvera sur sa route ! Depuis quelques mois, nous avons successivement vu les prix des carburants, des péages, des assurances et des stationnements augmenter de façon in- considérée.

    P.1 of 5 Note_140 Ferrari Lap Speeds at Monza, 1948 – 1967 This Note 140 is a complement to Note 136 Ferrari Racing Engines, 1948 - 2012 by providing an “Index of Performance” for a range of the cars whose engines are analysed there. The chosen parameter is the Lap Speed at Monza, up to the date, post-1967, when aero downforce made it impossible to quantify the cause of speed increases. A plan of Monza is shown. Over 1948 – 1954 it had two right- angle bends at the Curva Sud. When the high-speed banked loop to the East of the basic track was constructed for 1955 this end of the circuit was altered as shown to the “Parabolica”. Only the two level layouts are considered in this review. Taking account of the difference in lap length, 6.300 km before the change and 5.750 afterwards, it is considered that the effect on Lap Speed is within the co-relation margin for error. Lap Speed v, Date Fig. 1 below gives the history of the cars selected, over the 5 formulae. The markers on the charts are coloured according to the racing formula of the time, described below (only the main limits are mentioned). • Red Cross:- 1.5 litres Pressure-Charged (PC)/4.5 Litres Naturally-aspirated (NA); PC up to that time was obtained by Mechanical Supercharging (MSC). • Red Plus:_ 2 Litres NA – Formula Two treated as “honorary Grand prix” because of shortage of previous Formula 1 cars:- • Orange:- 2.5 Litres NA; • Red:- 1.5 Litres NA; • Blue:- 3 litres NA.
