The following construction activities will be implemented under the proposed sub-project: Construction of one water catchment Construction of two discharge chamber, one pressure braking chamber Construction of inlet water pipeline 738 m (D= 50x30mm - Py=1.0 Mpa) Construction of one metallic trough with 24 m length Gravel covered bypass road 150 m with 3,5 m length Construction of 30 m2 herdsmen’s’ shelter The design for pasture watering system has been developed by the ANUSHIK JRER LLC design company under the contract concluded with Agricultural Development Fund. The absolute maximum height of the construction site is 2060.0. The pipeline will pass through about the 0,4 ha communal lands, particularly through 0,4 ha pasture areas, in the outskirts of the village. Thus, during construction, the Project will temporary use 0,4 ha land, and this land will become usable for the community again being reinstated after completion of construction works, without any restriction of land use or access. Temporary access will be provided during construction to ensure continued mobility of livestock and herders. No part of the pipelines will pass through a private land or through lands used by illegal users. This was checked and verified via the community cadastral map and field surveys. As the construction activities will be carried out in the remote pastures, in the outskirts of the village, there is no need for temporary closure of roads, and as there are no private houses nearby, no temporary disturbance to residents may occur during the construction activities. No tree removal is anticipated. The natural relief and landscape will be recovered after construction works. Land title and user right The land required for the sub-project implementation belongs to the holder(s) Community on which the Reference provided by the Sisian Community Mayor (based on the Community cadastral map survey) is attached. Description of geographic, The sub-project site is located in Shaghat village of Sisian community of the physical, biological, RA Syunik marz. The pastures, where the construction site is located are on geological, hydrographic and the altitude of 1833 m. above sea level. socio-economic context Climatic conditions of the Shaghat possesses is mild mountainous. The winter is cold, snowy, temperature on winter about 16-20 C. The summer is warm, few clouds, comparatively humid weather. Precipitation is not abundant, 400- 450mm on the lake surface, up to 1000 in the mountains Shaghat village due to the consolidation process in November 2017 was included in Sisian community of the RA Syunik marz. The area of Sisian community is 111631 ha, and the population is 30575, while the area of Shaghat village of Sisian community is 11181 ha and the population is 1140 of whom 530 men and 610 women, overall 268 households. 2.7% of the overall population of the Republic involved in the migration processes is from Syunik marz. Of the overall population of the Republic not returning and returning to the Republic, Syunik marz population is 3.9% and 1.1% respectively. Poverty rate of Syunik marz is 4.7% within the overall poverty rate of the Republic. In Shaghat village, there are 9 families in the family benefit system, 125 pensioners and 50 persons with disability. In Shaghat Community Pasture User Association Consumer Cooperative established under the CARMAC II Project there are 71 members of whom 5 women and 7 youth; 1 representative of vulnerable groups as per Project vulnerability criteria (pensioners, persons with disability, family benefit system recipients, etc.). There are 230 households involved in livestock farming of which 4 are women-headed and 12 are youth-headed households. There are approximately 7255 ha pasture areas in the community. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for the village population, and livestock farming and crop farming are their main occupation. The main income source of the households is sales of livestock products, i.e. meat, milk and other dairy products, as well as other agricultural products. In the village, there is a school, kindergarten, culture house, library and a medical point. Of monuments of history and culture, there is a Saint Gevorg Church of 19th century and Narin Castle. Infrastructure development is the key to the development of the village as per Shaghat Community Development Program for 2017-2021. Locations and distance for If additional soil is required to close the trenches or grading the nearby area, material sourcing, especially such additional soil has to be delivered by Contractors from the place aggregates, water, stones provided by the community. Gravel and stones may be purchased and delivered by the Contractor. Contractor may choose to extract natural construction materials himself, in which case contractor must obtain an extraction license prior to commencement of extraction. Water for construction works will be provided with mobile water tanks. Waterway will be connected to the new water connection point for which Sisian community has to obtain water use permits form the Ministry of Nature Protection (MoNP) of the RA.     SIXTH NATIONAL REPORT TO THE CONVENTION ON BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA Sixth National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity EXECUTIVE SUMMERY The issues concerning the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity of the Republic of Armenia are an important and integral part of the country's environmental strategy that are aimed at the prevention of biodiversity loss and degradation of the natural environment, ensuring the biological diversity and human well- being. Armenia's policy in this field is consistent with the following goals set out in the 2010-2020 Strategic Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity (hereinafter CBD): 1. Address the underlying causes of biodiversity loss by mainstreaming biodiversity across government and society 2. Reduce the direct pressures on biodiversity and promote sustainable use 3. To improve the status of biodiversity by safeguarding ecosystems, species and genetic diversity 4. Enhance the benefits to all from biodiversity and ecosystem services (hereinafter ES) 5. Enhance implementation through participatory planning, knowledge management and capacity building. The government of the Republic of Armenia approved ''the Strategy and National Action Plan of the Republic of Armenia on Conservation, Protection, Reproduction and Use of Biological Diversity'' (BSAP) in 2015 based on the CBD goals and targets arising thereby supporting the following directions of the strategy of the Republic of Armenia on biodiversity conservation and use: 2 Sixth National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity 1. Improvement of legislative and institutional frameworks related to biodiversity. 2. Enhancement of biodiversity and ecosystem conservation and restoration of degraded habitats. 3.     ALTER Team Conducts First Site Visits in Armenia July 13, 2018 ALTER Team members gathered in Yerevan, Armenia from June 18th to 22nd to meet with in country stakeholders and visit the three project target areas. The team first traveled to the southern Armenian region of Syunik to visit the cities of Kapan and Kajaran located in Project Area 3. They met with private sector partners Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine CJSC and Polymetal International PLC to introduce the project and discuss collaboration with the project for the tailing management facilities and water reservoir associated with the companies’ mining activities in the area. The team also had the opportunity to visit the Syunik Regional Rescue Service Department, Crisis Management Centre of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations located in Kapan and gained insight on the existing response system and its connections with regional and local self-governing bodies. As a part of the visit, the briefly visited the Geghi reservoir and Artsvanik tailing management facility. From Kapan, the team travelled to Project Area 2 which covers the Vorotan Cascade hydroelectric infrastructure. Productive meetings were held with Mr. Arthur Sargsyan, the Head of Sisian Community, as well as with local administrative leaders of the project target villages - Vorotnavan, Uyts and Shaghat. The meetings showed that local leaders are interested in collaboration, but that risk reduction activities have been limited to this point due to a lack of finances. As a part of the site visit, the team also inspected the safety equipment associated with the Spandaryan reservoir and found that much of the equipment was in need of update.
