Děkan fakulty Tato práce vznikla za podpory projektu BiochemNet - Vytvoření sítě pro podporu spolupráce biomedicínských pracovišť a zvýšení uplatnitelnosti absolventů biochemických oborů v praxi (registrační číslo CZ.1.07/2.4.00/31.0133). Projekt je realizován v rámci Operačního programu vzdělávání pro konkurenceschopnost, který je spolufinancovaný z Evropského sociálního fondu a státního rozpočtu ČR. ABSTRAKT Diplomová práce se zabývá charakterizací plod ů aronie ( Aronia melanocarpa ) a muchovníku ( Amelanchier alnifolia ). Teoretická část práce pojednává o botanickém za řazení, chemickém složení, lé čivých účincích a použití plod ů aronie a muchovníku v potraviná řském pr ůmyslu. Dále je pozornost v ěnována p řehledu metod pro stanovení d ůležitých antioxidant ů, se zam ěř ením na stanovení polyfenolických látek, anthokyan ů, kyseliny askorbové a celkové antioxida ční aktivity. Experimentální část práce se zam ěř uje na stanovení vybraných parametr ů různých odr ůd aronie a muchovník ů sbíraných v letech 2012 a 2013 pomocí spektroskopických a chromatografických technik s důrazem na vliv rozpoušt ědla (50% ethanol, destilovaná voda, DMSO) na uvedené parametry. Konrétn ě je v práci zjiš ťován celkový obsah polyfenolických látek a anthokyanů, barevné charakteristiky pomocí systému CIE L*a*b* a schopnost vzorku redukovat železité ionty pomocí metody UV-VIS-NIR spektroskopie. Dále je kvantifikován obsah kyseliny askorbové v extraktech z plod ů aronie a muchovník ů pomocí vysokoú činné kapalinové chromatografie s využitím detektoru s diodovým polem a také celková antioxida ční aktivita metodou DPPH a ABTS s využitím elektronové paramagnetické rezonance. ABSTRACT Diploma thesis deals with the characterization of chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa ) and saskatoon berry (Amelanchier alnifolia ) fruits. The theoretical part focuses on the botanical classification, chemical composition, curative effects and the use of chokeberry and saskatoon berry in the food industry. Further, the attention is also devoted to a review of methods for the determination of important antioxidants, specialized on the determination of polyphenols, anthocyanins, ascorbic acid and total antioxidant activity. The experimental part of the work deals with the determination of selected parameters in different varieties of chokeberry and serviceberry, harvested in 2012 and 2013 using spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques with an emphasis on effect of solvent (50% ethanol, destilled water, DMSO). Specifically total content of polyphenols and anthocyanins, color characteristics using the CIE L*a*b* system and the ability of the sample to reduce the iron are determined using the UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy. Further ascorbic acid concentration in individual extracts is quantified by High performance liquid chromatography coupled with a diode array detector and the total antioxidant activity is characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance involving •DPPH and ABTS •+ assays. In 2008, information about plants in CKL was scattered and scarce. At the urging of Michael Oldham, Biologist at the Natural Heritage Information Centre at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Dale Leadbeater and Anne Barbour formed a committee with goals to: • Generate a list of species found in CKL and their distribution, vouchered by specimens to be housed at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, making them available for future study by the scientific community; • Improve understanding of natural heritage systems in the CKL; • Provide insight into changes in the local plant communities as a result of pressures from introduced species, climate change and population growth; and, • Publish the findings of the project . Over eight years, more than 200 volunteers and landowners collected almost 2000 voucher specimens, with the permission of landowners. Over 10,000 observations and literature records have been databased. The project has documented 150 new species of which 60 are introduced, 90 are native and one species that had never been reported in Ontario to date.

S. Hitchcock and Paul C. Standley published their succinct manual in 1919 for the identification of the vascular flora in the Washington, DC, area. A comparable new manual has long been needed. As with their work, such a manual should be produced through a collaborative effort of the region’s botanists and other experts. The Annotated Checklist is offered as a first step, in the hope that it will spark and facilitate that effort. In preparing this checklist, Shetler has been responsible for the taxonomy and nomenclature and Orli for the database. We have chosen to distribute the first part in preliminary form, so that it can be used, criticized, and revised while it is current and the second part (Monocotyledons) is still in progress. Additions, corrections, and comments are welcome. We hope that our checklist will stimulate a new wave of fieldwork to check on the current status of the local flora relative to what is reported here. When Part II is finished, the two parts will be combined into a single publication. We also maintain a Web site for the Flora of the Washington-Baltimore Area, and the database can be searched there (http://www.nmnh.si.edu/botany/projects/dcflora).

Plant Res. 22(6) : 558~570 (2009) Review Vascular Plant Diversity of Jeju Island, Korea Kim Chan-Soo* Warm-Temperate Forest Research Center, Korea Forest Research Institute, Seogwipo 697-050, Korea Abstract - The vascular plants in Jeju composed of 21 families 62 genera, 190 species, 7 varieties with 197 taxa in Pteridophyta, 3 families 5 genera, 7 species, 3 forma with 10 taxa in gymnosperm (Coniferophyta) and 143 families 703 genera, 1,622 species, 114 varieties and 47 forma with 1,783 taxa in Endospermae. The total number of taxa was 1,990 consisting 167 families, 770 genera, 1,818 species, 121 varieties and 50 forma. Three families, 4 genera 4 species and 1 variety in Pteridophyta and 1 family, 1 genus I species, 1 forma of Coniferophyta were endemic to Jeju. Five families, 8 genera and 8 species in the Monocotyledonae of Endospermae and 23 families, 32 genera, 21 species, 16 varieties and 7 forma and 44 taxa in Cholipetalae, and 9 families, 24 genera, 12 species, 13 varieties and 7 forma, total 32 taxa in Sympetalae were endemic to Jeju. Total 90 taxa with 41 families, 69 genera, 46 species, 29 varieties and 15 forma were drawn up as endemic plants in Jeju. As the numbers show on, Jeju has more biodiversity especially plant diversity than any other places in Korea. It was an important region in regard to geographical position. The rarity on plants from Jeju has been assessed based on the IUCN red list categories and criteria at both regional and global levels. There was one species in each extinct (EX) and extinct in the Wild (EW).

    PLANNING DIVISION COUNTY OF BRANT RECOMMENDED PLANTING SPECIES COUNTY OF BRANT August 2005 January 16, 2008 PURPOSE These Guidelines were created to assist with the selection of plant materials that are to be used and not used when preparing landscaping plans within the County. The intent is to protect natural areas from invasive species that can have the affect of destroying natural habitat. By applying these standards to development applications, the County will assist in limiting the potential negative impacts invasive species can create, and at the same time, provide species that are native to the County. The materials to be used should be tolerant to urban conditions, and are encouraged to be of native species. The Guidelines have been created with the assistance of the Grand River Conservation Authority, Jeff Thompson of Thompson Environmental Planning and Design, and County Staff.
