It was his first short story published in a major magazine. A slightly revised version was published in two collections of his short fiction, These 13 (1931) and Collected Stories (1950). It has been published in dozens of anthologies as well. ''A Rose for Emily'' is the story of an eccentric spinster, Emily Grierson. An unnamed narrator details the strange circumstances of Emily's life and her odd relationships with her father, her lover, and the town of Jefferson, and the horrible secret she hides. -

It considers the concept of time and how it is represented and altered through writing in fiction literature. Additionally, the role of time and non-linearity is discussed from the perspective of the emotional effects it induces rather than linear, chronological narratives. With the use of qualitative research, international literature, and an original creative writing segment, this theory is analyzed. 3 Introduction Stories, in their most basic interpretation, are created by isolating a sequence of events and presenting them to an audience. How a story is written noticeably impacts the way it will be received by readers since it considers characters, setting, tone, time, and several other aspects to make it whole. While every detail allows a story to raise various interpretations or perceptions, the importance of time is often overlooked compared to other aforementioned qualities which are deemed more important. From this perspective, time is mostly considered a means through which the story is told, but rather, this paper will analyze how the disruption of time in a story is capable of altering how the story is perceived and emphasizing certain aspects. -

Abstract. William Faulkner is among the greatest experimentalists of the 20th century novelists. The 1950 Nobel Prize presentation speech calls Faulkner the “unrivaled master of all living British and American novelists”. A Rose for Emily is one of his best- known short stories and is widely used in English classroom. Some people regard the story as a reflection of the dying Old South and the growing New South, which is practical and bent on industrialization. Some read the story as an allegory. By the characterization of the heroine Miss Emily and with the use of symbols and images, we can understand the relationship between the South and the North, between the past and the present, illusion and reality, permanence and change, and death and life. Introduction William Faulkner (1897-1962) is a giant in the realm of American literature. More than simply a renowned Mississippi writer, the Nobel Prize-winning novelist and short story writer is acclaimed through the world as one of the twentieth century’s greatest writers. During what is generally considered his period of greatest artistic achievement, from The Sound and the Fury in 1929 to Go Down, Moses in 1942, Faulkner accomplished in a little over a decade more artistically than most writers accomplish over a lifetime of writing. -

Falkner, an author, politician, lawyer, businessman and soldier, who resided in Mississippi during the 1800s. Duclos’ dissertation, Son of Sorrow: The Life, Works and Influence of Colonel William C. Falkner, 1825-1889, was published by International Scholars Publications in 1998. The collection also contains items relating to various other members of the Falkner family, including the Colonel’s great-grandson, the Nobel Prize-winning author, William Faulkner. ________________________________________________ Biographical Sketches Falkner, William Clark, July 6, 1825-November 6, 1889 William Clark Falkner was born in Knox County, Tennessee on July 6, 1825, but lived most of his life in Mississippi, eventually becoming a long-term resident of the town of Ripley. Falkner was a prominent lawyer, politician, businessman and soldier, serving in both the Mexican War and the American Civil War, and ultimately rising to the rank of Colonel in the Confederate Army. He was also a prolific author, composing several poems, plays and novels, including The White Rose of Memphis, Rapid Ramblings in Europe and The Siege of Monterey. -
