Public Comment Matt Vough provided and update on his work regarding opioids. He announced he will be hosting two opioid awareness forums, one in Wilkes-Barre the end of July and one in Duryea in September. He stated he met with President Leary at LCCC regarding their CRS program. Mr. Vough will be working with the County Manager to provide drug take back boxes at the Rock the River Concert Fest.

2019 Annual Conference Registration August 4 – 7 Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Reading, Santander Arena and Courtyard by Marriott Reading Wyomissing, Berks County

Conference Deadlines are Coming Up!

CCAP Early Bird Registration – If you register for the Annual Conference by June 30, you will receive the early bird rate of $400. Registrations received after that date will be $425. Visit the Annual Conference webpage and read the Conference Registration Brochure (PDF) for all of the Conference details.

Special Registration Promotion – CCAP is pleased to again offer a special multiple person registration rate to counties. Four county members can attend the Annual Conference for the price of three! Any additional attendees over and above that fourth free attendee would attend at the full Conference registration rate.

Don’t Forget to Make Your Hotel Reservation (See Important Update in Red) – The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Reading is our headquarters hotel and the Courtyard by Marriott Reading Wyomissing, our overflow property, is located about two miles from the DoubleTree. CCAP will be running a shuttle bus from the Courtyard to the DoubleTree Sunday through Tuesday. The room reservation deadline for both hotels is July 5 or when our room blocks fill up, whichever comes first. After July 5, our Conference room rate cannot be guaranteed.

Our room block at the DoubleTree is currently sold out. Rooms may open up so please call the hotel directly to check on whether any rooms open up. Additionally, the room block at the Courtyard by Marriott is also close to selling out. No king rooms are available at this time. We also recommend calling the Courtyard instead of booking online. Please be sure to mention the CCAP room block.

A list of other Reading area hotels near the DoubleTree and the Santander Arena are available on the CCAP website. CCAP does not have a room block or conference room rate at these venues.

Sunday Evening’s Reception – Wear your favorite ‘80s fashions and join us for great music, outstanding food and a lot of fun! Visit with all of our exhibitors in the CCAP Exhibit Hall on Sunday evening during an event not to be missed!

Monday’s C.S. McKee L.P. Event (PDF) – A Conference-wide event compliments of C.S. McKee, L.P. is being held at the new UGI Energy Services Headquarters at The Knitting Mills in Wyomissing. The Tour of Berks County festivities will feature local cuisine paired with beers, wines and spirits. Live music will keep the festival fun and carefree while you relax under the twinkling lights and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding cities of Wyomissing and West Reading. Take a Ride on the Colebrookdale Railroad – This Tuesday afternoon tour features an adventure on the Colebrookdale Railroad! Tour guests will enjoy a delicious catered lunch on the train, a scenic ride through the countryside and a stop for ice cream. A tour ticket is $55 per person and includes transportation, a catered lunch, a ticket for the railroad and an ice cream treat. Space is limited so sign up early!

Berks County Countryside Tour – Our second Tuesday afternoon tour includes the Manatawny Creek Winery for lunch, wine tasting and a presentation on the Spotted Lanternfly, and then stops at two locally-owned farms for short tours which include chances to shop for local produce and other goods. A tour ticket is $50 per person and includes transportation, a picnic lunch and a wine tasting. Space is limited so sign up early!

Golf Tournament (PDF) – Tuesday afternoon will feature the Annual Conference Golf Tournament at the Willow Hollow Golf Course in Leesport offered compliments of Mazzitti & Sullivan EAP Services, Inc., Cornerstone Advisors Asset Management, Inc. and Scott + Scott Attorneys at Law, LLP. A putting contest will be held compliments of CGL Companies. Participation in the tournament is complimentary for all CCAP members and guests.

New! Road and Bridge Safety Improvement Awards (PDF) – Each year, CCAP, the Pennsylvania Highway Information Association (PHIA) and the PA Department of Transportation (PennDOT) work together to

It is my honor to invite you to the 133rd CCAP Annual Conference in Berks Kathi Cozzone County this August! We are excited to be at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel President Reading and the Santander Arena, in the heart of the City of Reading – home to County Commissioners the Pagoda, Taylor Swift, outlet shopping, the Reading Fightin’ Phils and Broken Association of Pennsylvania Chair Brewery (I like the name so I decided to include it!), and on the doorstep Chester County Commissioner of many beautiful and historical Berks County attractions.

OUR ANNUAL CONFERENCE VENUES For this year’s Annual Conference, CCAP members, vendors and guests will be using three different properties. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Reading is our Conference headquarters hotel and will be used for most overnight rooms, all general and breakout sessions and our Tuesday evening dinner. The Santander Arena, located across the street from the DoubleTree, will be the site of Sunday and Monday’s Exhibit Hall, Sunday night’s Welcome Reception and Monday’s Lunch with CCAP’s Exhibitors. The Courtyard by Marriot Reading Wyomissing will be the overflow housing site for the conference. CCAP will be running a shuttle from the Courtyard to the DoubleTree and Santander Arena.

A Resolution by Luzerne County Council Declaring a Vacancy on the Luzerne County Board of Elections and Registration

WHEREAS, James Wills had been appointed to fill a seat on the Luzerne County Board of Elections and Registration; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wills submitted a letter of resignation regarding his seat on the Luzerne County Board of Elections and Registration; and

WHEREAS, Section 11.06 of the Luzerne County Home Rule Charter provides that whenever facts or circumstances result in a vacancy as defined in the Charter or applicable law in any County authority, board or commission, County Council shall declare such seat vacant by resolution adopted by an affirmative vote of at least a majority of its current members and announce its intent to fill the seat on the respective board, authority or commission; and

WHEREAS, Luzerne County Council desires to declare a vacancy of a seat on the Luzerne County Board of Elections and Registration.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Luzerne County Council declares a vacancy on the Luzerne County Board of Elections and Registration due to the resignation of a member and Council will fill the member seat in accordance with Article 8.02 of the Luzerne County Home Rule Charter.

This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
