Vol. 36 Rockabilly & Rock ‘n’ Roll From The Vaults Of TNT & Marathon Records Label Bear Family Productions Catalog no. BCD17605 EAN-Code 5397102176050 Price code: AR Format 1-CD (Digipak) with 36-page booklet Genre Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rockabilly No. of tracks 34 approx. 77:00 min. Release date May 7, 2021 INFO: • Bear Family's revisit to the history of the Texas TNT label in our unique CD series 'That'll Flat Git It!' focuses on the rockers Robert Tanner produced in the 1950s. • The most important label from Southwest Texas at the time released outstanding recordings by country legends, rockabilly greats and accomplished rock 'n' rollers. • Bill Anderson, Ray Campi, Jimmy Dee, Glenn Reeves, Roy Head - just to throw a few names into the ring. • Extensive liner notes by music historian Bill Dahl with the story of TNT Records and detailed notes on each recording in the comprehensive, fully illustrated booklet, which comes with a high-quality 6-page Digipak. The vast Texas recording legacies of Houston and Dallas have been celebrated for more than half a century, and rightly so—the Lone Star State’s expansive musical smorgasbord is as impressive and wide-ranging as that of any state in America. But what of San Antonio, currently America’s seventh largest metropolis? It’s high time to pay tribute to San Antonio’s top label during the 1950s, Robert Tanner’s TNT Records—and that’s exactly what Bear Family is doing with the latest entry in its celebrated ‘That’ll Flat Git It’ series. It’s jam-packed with country legends (Leon Payne, Bill Anderson, Lonnie Lillie), raging rockabilly (Ray Campi, Cecil Moore, Jerry Dove, The Delatones, Dan Virva), and thundering R&B-laced rock and roll (Glenn Reeves, Ray Liberto, The Blue Notes, Jimmy Dee, Johnny Olenn and The Jokers, and Roy Head’s group, The Traits), nearly all of it sinfully rare. Tanner had the San Antonio recording scene all sewn up from 1953 into the early ‘60s - and his TNT label packed sonic dynamite! Eric Laufer born 1982, grew up in West Seneca, N.Y. and was a 2001 graduate of East Senior High School. He started playing music at a young age, taking lessons in bass and electric guitar. He moved to Boston, M.A. at 19 to attend the Berklee School Of Music where he obtained his diploma in professional music. It was there that he met his band mates Jeff and Shane and they formed the music trio "The Two Timin’ Three", described as a fiery myriad of rock n‘ roll, pop, jazz and early punk with Rockabilly tendencies. With Eric as the lead singer and playing guitar they wrote and produced two albums "Where did you sleep last night" and "Payin' the Price". They toured for several years before relocating to Austin, Texas and adding Patrick a fourth band member, changing the name to "The Two Timin' four. As a foursome, they released "Dark before Dawn" and played music worldwide with some of music's heroes including Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Head, Link Wray and Junior Brown. Eric was more than just a great musician. He was also a wonderful brother, a loving son, a hero to his younger cousins and niece, a loyal friend and an inspiration to many. On September 4th, 2008, Eric was riding his motorcycle home from San Antonio, where he played a weekly gig at “Logans" covering early rock and roll classics with some friends and calling themselves "Romantic Explosion". At 4:19am but 5 minutes away from home he was brutally killed by a hit and run driver who has yet to be found.

  • Silver Eagle Discography
Silver Eagle USA Discography by Mike Callahan, David Edwards & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan Silver Eagle Discography Silver Eagle was a Canadian company headquartered near Toronto at 115 Apple Creek Blvd., Markham, Ontario, Canada. The label was a subsidiary of LaBuick & Associates Media, Inc., and label President was Ed LaBuick. The Media company specialized in TV marketing, and in addition to Silver Eagle also promoted Time-Life. In addition to LPs, Cassettes, and CDs, Silver Eagle also released videos. They established an office in the US at 4 Centre Drive, Orchard Park, NY (later, 777 N. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs, CA), and often licensed product from the Special Products Divisions of the major record labels. They typically would pre-sell an album using 2-minute TV spots in stations across the country, then use that demand to place product in retail stores. They had their own manufacturing plant and distribution system, and according to LaBuick, sold many millions of albums. LaBuick later became head of the Music Division and Special Products Division of the major Quality Label in Canada. Note: All distributed by Silver Eagle unless noted otherwise. 1 2 3 As the state’s largest industrial city, Houston was a destination for many musicians looking for employment during the early 1900s Blues musicians migrated from the Mississippi Delta, especially during the Great Depression, and Texas blues was born. During this time, notable western swing musicians from the Fort Worth area also migrated to Houston in search of better economy. Along with Houston and Beaumont‐area musicians, they created a flourishing swing scene that evolved into a thriving dance hall and honky tonk scene. Looking for work, black Creoles from Louisiana moved to large, industrial east Texas cities such as Houston. Houston’s Frenchtown was important to the development of zydeco, which formed out of the mixing of Louisiana’s acoustic La La music with 4 urban blues and R&B. Tejano music was influenced by border music, and along with conjunto music, also had its roots in the early twentieth century and became a part of the fiber of Houston Music. 4 With ACA and Goldstar/SugarHill recording studios and labels Starday, Duke and Peacock, and D Records, Houston has long been a center for recording in the region. This image is from an ACA Master Book from early fifties. Hopefully, you can make out Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton’s name in the middle of the page. Although Thornton was born in Alabama, her career took off when she moved to Houston and began recording for Don Robey’s labels Peacock and Duke. Recorded at ACA in 1952, Big Mama Thornton’s “Hound Dog” spent several weeks at the number 1 positions on the Billboard charts in 1953.

Concert • Music History Conference • Record Show • Hip Drop Ace Hotel New Orleans • The Orpheum Theater New Orleans • d.b.a. THE MUSIC YOUR MAMA’S MAMA WARNED HER ABOUT The Ponderosa Stomp Festival The biennial Ponderosa Stomp Festival is a must-see celebration of the forgotten heroes and heroines of rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, blues, garage, soul, and rockabilly. The two-night Ponderosa Stomp Concert spotlights live performances by hall-of- fame-level artists who — though they never became household names themselves — influenced contemporaries like Elvis and the Rolling Stones and made hits that inspired musical giants from Prince to David Bowie to pick up instruments. They shaped the course of popular music, but haven’t had the exposure they deserve. “The Ponderosa Stomp is becoming a prominent national treasure made of overlooked national treasures. It’s culturally rewarding and artistically gratifying — and a whole lot of fun.” — Robert Gordon, Grammy-winning author, filmmaker, and Stomp panelist The Stomp Stage Launches Comebacks Stomp performances have revived the careers of dozens of artists, propelling them back into the recording studio and to new bookings around the world. The Concert producers track down musicians no one else can find, artists who haven’t played live in decades and may not realize an audience is waiting for them. A show by acclaimed soul singer Howard Tate, his first club gig in 30 years, led to tour dates and a new album, Rediscovered. The Concert offers a unique opportunity for sponsors to be a part of authentic feel-good stories about a diverse slate of artists, from country crooners to psychedelic rockers, stepping into the spotlight after years in the shadows.
