Dziubla* Passageof the Export Trading Company Act of 1982provides new op- portunitiesfor American business to organize and operate general trading companies. Afterpresenting a thorough history and description of the Japa- nese sogoshosha, Mr. Dziubla gives several compelling reasonsfor Ameri- cans to establish export trading companies. He also examines the changes in United States banking and antitrust laws that have resultedfrom passage of the act, and offers suggestionsfor draftingguidelines, rules, and regula- tionsfor the Export Trading Company Act. For several years, American legislators and businessmen have warned that if America is to balance its international trade-and in particular offset the cost of importing billions of dollars worth of oil- she must take concrete steps to increase her exporting capabilities., On October 8, 1982, the United States took just such a step when President Reagan signed into law the Export Trading Company Act of 1982,2 which provides for the development of international general trading companies similar to the ones used so successfully by the Japanese. -

Fung 5.1 Introduction Given the economic importance of the two nations, the economic relation- ship between the United States and Japan is perhaps the most significant bilat- eral economic linkage in the world economy today. Unfortunately, the domi- nant feature of the relationship in recent years has been disputes about trade. The core of the problem is undoubtedly the persistent trade imbalance be- tween the two nations. The magnitude of the trade imbalance remains large, The United States ran a merchandise trade deficit of over $1 18.5 billion in 1988, and $109 billion in 1989. Japan had a global trade surplus of $78.3 billion in 1988 and $65 billion in 1989. On a bilateral level, the trade imbalance between the United States and Japan was $5 1.8 billion in 1988 and $49 billions in 1989. -

ABSTRACT This research is an in-depth study of Korean GTCs (General Trading Companies) and Japanese Sogo Shoshas (the Japanese version of General Trading Companies), which are unique big business conglomerates but not well-known in Western countries. It investigates and compares several of their features, such as their history, characteristics, functions, organisational structure, corporate culture, human resource management, their impact on national economic development, strategic management and decision-making process. First, it examines a wide range of literature to show the functions of Korean GTCs and Japanese Sogo Shoshas as transaction intermediaries, information gatherers, project organisers, international marketers, financial providers, etc. With these varied functions, they have played significant roles not only from the macro aspect, but also the micro aspect. -

Despite a decade of slow or no growth, it continues to be held together by a dense web of longstanding and mutually reinforcing relationships between government and business, between nominally independent firms, and between labor and management. This is not to say that Japan is immutable. It clearly is undergoing change in the distribution of economic gains and losses, as evidenced by growing income inequality. The "big tent" of relationalism today protects fewer Japanese citizens than it has at any other time in the post-war period. But the tent itself is still standing tall. In response to the request from the House Ways and Means Committee, the Commission instituted investigation No. 332-283 on November 13, 1989. The first phase of the report was to be submitted on June 22, 1990 and Phase II of the report by October 23, 1990. -

Hard Core Cartels 2000 This report examines issues related to attacking cartels and market liberalization as well as issues related to implementing the 1998 OECD Council Recommendation Concerning Effective Action against Hard Core Cartels. The OECD anti-cartel programme began with the publication in 1998 of the OECD Council Recommendation Concerning Effective Action against Hard Core Cartels. The programme is an important illustration of how government enforcement of framework laws can protect against abuses by powerful enterprises. It is also important in calling global attention to a problem that cannot be addressed effectively without increased co- operation from the many non- Members with competition laws and the numerous others that are considering them. Finally, international cartels often have particularly harmful effects on less developed countries, and the benefits to those countries of more effective anti-cartel enforcement and of increased outreach can help promote co-operation on other issues of global concern. NEWS RELEASE Nov 08, 2019 R&I Affirms A-/a-1, Changes Outlook to Positive: Fuyo General Lease Co., Ltd. Rating and Investment Information, Inc. (R&I) has announced the following: ISSUER: Fuyo General Lease Co., Ltd. Issuer Rating: A-, Affirmed Rating Outlook: Positive, Changed from Stable Commercial Paper: a-1, Affirmed RATIONALE: Fuyo General Lease Co., Ltd. (FGL) is a general lease company established by six Fuyo Group companies including former The Fuji Bank, Ltd. (currently Mizuho Bank, Ltd.). FGL's competitive advantage lies in transactions with large companies, and consolidated subsidiary Sharp Finance Corp. has strength in vendor leasing for mid-tier firms/small and midsized companies. In the business process outsourcing (BPO) business launched as new services, the company is accelerating M&A activities. Profit before interest expenses has grown steadily thanks to the contribution of non-asset-based businesses including BPO services, as well as the strategic increase of real estate leasing and aircraft leasing transactions. Meanwhile, cost efficiency has been maintained at a sound level, despite the increase of group companies. Accordingly, FGL's earning capacity is improving. Although risk exposure has risen, the company will be able to keep risk resilience commensurate with the level required for the A rating category, in R&I's view, given anticipated profit accumulation. The risk associated with concentration of credit exposure to large borrowers, which was a pending issue, has been mitigated gradually. In consideration of the above-mentioned factors, R&I has affirmed the rating and changed the Rating Outlook to Positive. R&I will upgrade the rating if FGL can enhance an earnings base while keeping its risk-return balance intact. -

I fetched these two beautiful characters from a verse of the great poet Qu Yuan (屈原), in the hope that it stimulates my son to be fond of learning and motivates myself in my PhD study. I dedicate this piece of work to my wife, Liu Zheng, who gave up a good job and a comfortable life in Beijing to work as my cook, secretary and research assistant in Singapore. Fully engaged in my study, I was no more than a giant baby that not only helped nothing with housework but also had aperiodic depression due to the harshness of research.
